Book 1: Commonwealth, to celebrate Guacamole Day, September 16
Guacamole is one of my favorite snacks. To celebrate this treat, my quilt, in addition to showing finished bowls of yummy guacamole and chips for dipping, would show all of the ingredients that go into my guacamole- avocados, of course, salt, chilis, limes, and my special ingredient, a touch of orange zest.
This book cover is full of the oranges from which I get that zest:
Book 2: The Bone Clocks to celebrate Astronomy Day, October 8
My quilt would show different depictions of the sky, both day and night, as well as stars, planets and telescopes. I would also include apples represent Sir Isaac Newton, who studied astronomy. The book cover shows the sky and it appears on the cover as though it's being viewed through a telescopic lens, with the rings on the cover representing the rings of Saturn and well as other bands of particles that orbit other planets. The apple in the center represents Sir Isaac Newton, who while known to many for his theory of gravity evolved from observing an apple falling from a tree, also studied astronomy, applying his principles to the trajectories of comets. He also built the first practical reflecting telescope, which is essential to the study of astronomy.
The Bone Clocks, at 624 pages is a Big Book. Claiming one BB ticket.

I tried to read this book shortly after finishing the first one in the series, The Cuckoo's Calling. I made it about 1/3 of the way through, but then grew tired of the main character. As it's been quite a while since I've read the first one now, I was able to read the whole book this time around.
