Aww, thanks for the support, NicoleG. Wish I could comp it but we're working from a private person budget, funding it on our own. I have a Paypal acct. I'll see how I have it listed and PM you the name under Goodreads mail. Pugs cuts a mean swath on five pages. lol Feel free to have him paw-tograph his pages or wherever he likes. Look for a Goodreads e-mail later today. Thanks bunches!

Oh, okay. (I should read post through). Sounds good for a future read, indeed. :-)

I know there's a Freebie thread but I can't find it lol
PI's if you've a seasonal photo you'd like to pop up on The Parlor's masthead, feel free to send it to me. They need to be at least 970 x 245. A little larger works over too small. We could use something autumn, harvesty. ;-)
FYI PI's, all-star cast whodunit titled Knives Out is making its way to theater screens mid Dec. Also, remake of Death On the Nile w/the "new" Poirot, Kenneth Branaugh, is currently in production, filming.
Helen Mirren has movie coming out next week. Though I know little about it, it may be more suspense, drama.

Found a new Brit DVD cozy series (new to me that is) called Queens of Mystery. Got a "If you like Agatha Raisin, you like--") rating. Three aunts write mysteries, niece solves crimes. Sounds fun. Just received it today and will give it a go tonight. Anyone see it yet?

I've seen it and enjoyed it! I hope they film more episodes. :-)

Anyone watching Jane Austen's Sanditon airing on pbs? Some similarities to Pride & Prejudice. Very good series IMHO. Third installment up next.
Compiling papers (lots o' papers) for tax filing. Will surface out from under in time for Feb. discussion. :-)

NicoleG wrote: "If I can find PBS somewhere I'll watch it. My husband takes care of the taxes so I just have to hand him my W-2 and I'm done LOL"
I'm jealous. ;-)

Sanditon is good. Hope you catch it!

Mark, I'm re-reading Sleeping Murder and when Gwenda and Giles first visit the nursing home there's a woman who comes into the drawing room with a glass of milk, asking if it was her (Gwenda's) child and mentioning "behind the fireplace". This is clearly from the Tommy and Tuppence story, By the Pricking of My Thumbs but is it a coincidence? Did AC just throw that in there to amuse herself? Or is there a connection? Her father was at Saltmarsh House and the home in the Tommy and Tuppence story was Sunny Ridge.
There isn't really an official explanation of this, but most people suspect that it is something that Christie experienced herself and fist inserted it into Sleeping Murder (written in the WWII years, but not published until 1976.) No doubt she forgot using it when she put it in Pricking of My Thumbs, in 1968 or so. And not noticed when the 1940's book was sent for publishing in the 70's.
Nevertheless, assuming it is something that really happened, isn't it spooky?

My guess is that she liked certain names and wanted to use them again. I also think she remarked one that she never thought people would notice such things. Little did she know how rabid we are as fans!
So how is everyone? The page has been quite for a few days and we haven't heard from Tina.
I hope everyone is OK

Glad you are doing well, though I expect to be hunkered down for a while longer.
I think I mentioned that I've been teaching classes for a life-long learning group here in Pittsburgh, on mystery books. Corona put a stop to in-person classes, but starting in the summer, I will be doing my Golden Age Mystery class via Zoom. Registration for the summer just started and the class is already full with six people on the wait list!
Given that we can't get library books, perhaps we could consider something we already have in our stashes for discussion.

NicoleG: No I didn't. I didn't hear of it or otherwise I would have ordered it.
Of course, I have all of Christie, plus Dorothy Sayers, Ngaio Marsh. Most of the Cadfaels, the Diva series, Nero Wolfe, Patricia Wentworth (Miss Silver), The Cat-Who series. A lot of others which are escaping my memory right now.

I have a lot of them as well. Including the Sherlock Holmes ones. If any of you want to host, then pick a title and I'll probably be able to get it, especially the classic mysteries!

I’ll read whichever you guys pick. If there are a few shorter ones I don’t mind reading a bunch.
Did we all get the mystery collection from Kindle? If so, we have a lot of choices. I like the idea of some short stories. Here are a few suggestions:
Sherlock Holmes: There are four novels but 56 short stories in the collection. Perhaps some of those?
Any Father Brown fans? I think the whole collection is in Kindle and they are all short stories.
R. Austin Freeman wrote the Dr. Thorndyke stories which are very old but quite tricky.
Open to other thoughts as well.

Father Brown sounds good. As I said they are all short stories, so any of them will work for me. One a week? And thanks for hosting.
