Read: Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead
Rating: ****
Date: 5/7/2014
Relevance: 3nd in a series
Review: I think this series is getting really good now. She's getting her ducks in a row plot wise and I'm really starting to warm up to the characters. I like how much Rose gets herself in trouble and how stubborn she is. I can relate to the hissy fits she throws and I'm starting to really like Adrain too :)

Hahaha! I'm gonna call our house the International House of Mancakes every time he gets done working out ;)

I just got home and guess what? I rolled another freaking 5. How is this happening? I seriously think all that trash talking about my rolling skills has rubbed off to make me a mean, awesome rolling machine.
So I rolled a 5 tonight, which puts us on space 35. You can read book 35 in a series, book 3 in a series, book 5 in a series, or the alternative which is a book off of the My Bookcase shelf.
I will listen to
by Pamela Clare (Book 5, I-Team) and read
by Julie Kagawa (Book 3, The Blood of the Eden)
Great roll Paris. You got it this round, so lets go to Vegas.

Yeah I wasn't actually crazy about either book 1 or 2, although I think 3 is supposed to be pretty good.
Only reason I am reading them is because I'm using the word "Born" in book 3 for a challenge, so I had to read 2 to get to it (and I owned them for some reason, must have been a discount at some point). Crazy!
But it actually works out now because I can use it as a #3 in series..

It's good, even if you have seen the show.

ReviewWell this was worth reading the first two books in the series... Syren is the mysterious, beautiful character we met in the previous two stories, he works for a crimelord using the name Faro. We also met Kane Ashby in the first book, since he's Gabe's brother, and we know he grieves for his lost partner. I love stories of two wounded characters coming together and healing and this delivers! I have to say it almost lost me with the angst at the end, (view spoiler) So the series redeemed itself (I even went back and read bits of the other books). It was nice to see Gabe and Rafe again, although I'm glad there wasn't too much of Pablo, he's still what ruined book 2 for me.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

I still need to write my review, but I'll have that posted too. I don't know why, but reviews have been so difficult for me to write lately. I'd rather be reading. lol

Spot 35

Book Choice: Breaking Point (Book 5, I-Team Series) by Pamela Clare
Read: May 10
Rating & Review: 5-stars.
Hands down my favorite in this series and one of the best books I have read this year. This book was action packed and reminded me of the Bourne movie series.
Deputy US Marshall Zach McBride was imprisoned by the Mexican Drug Cartel, The Zetas, when an I-team reporter Natalie Benoit was thrown in the same dungeon. Natalie managed to get her cuffs off and helped Zach escape. Then the former navy seal training kicked in and Zach turned into Jason Bourne---how sexy.
So you got 2 Americans on the run in Cuidad Juarez, trying to cross over to the US border and get to safety...you got the drug cartel on their heels and they are battling an intense attraction.
Yes, this one was a very satisfying audiobook!

Read: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
Rating: *****
Finished: 5/10/2014
Review: So far so good! I'm glad that I watched the show before I read this book because now I feel like I know who's who and I can picture the actors in my mind. Very good epic fantasy, even if it was super long!

Ezi, I'd totally watch your kids. I love hanging out, spoiling them and then giving them back to their parents. Me and the little man had a great time. I just love that kid...even when his 3 year old self is kicking my butt. I really need to hit the gym more.

This book was so funny and so sweet. I loved it even more than the first two books in the series. Chris McCormick is definitely book boyfriend material. McKenna was cool, but Chris definitely made the book.

So I rolled a 2 tonight, which puts us on space 37. You can read book 37 in a series, book 3 in a series, book 7 in a series, or the alternative which is a book that takes place in Italy.
Books Set in Venice Listopia
Books With Italian Location Listopia
Romance in Italy or Italian Heroes and Heroines Listopia

You are still rolling great Paris. I confess I was hoping for "38" but this one will do.
I will read

Review: Justin is 19, the son of an abusive, alcoholic father. He's been taunted by the jocks at his high school. Once he graduates he gets away to go to live at his Aunt's, in Rock Bay. He meets Logan, the former jock, who has followed his best friend to Rock Bay after a breakup with the girl he thought he'd marry. Logan is very affectionate. They work in the same coffee shop (owned by the MCs from Book #1). Justin needs to be brought out of his shell, and the loving, affectionate Logan does a good job making Justin feel wanted. The story is very sweet, and the angst is mostly in Justin's history. It handles Justin's hesitation and prickliness well, without making him whiny or bratty. Logan was terrific, although he seemed a bit blasé about the fact that he's now attracted to a guy, but for a gentle story that reads smoothly this was lovely.

I have a confession to make... I didn't read the other ones (I know, it's a terrible thing to read series out of order, but...) Somewhere along the line I bought this book, it must have been on sale or something and it just fit this week since it was a #3 and it fit other challenges I'm doing.... :-)
I don't own the other two so I may or may not go back and read them...
It wasn't too bad figuring out the characters, I read the blurbs for the first two books so I had a sense. I missed out on the subtleties of the group interactions but...

I'll have my iPad and the hotel says it has WiFi but I'm not 100% sure how much access I'm going to have... I have books loaded and preselected for any of the 6 numbers that can be rolled so I'll try to check in once Thursday to get the roll and then before Saturday night so the next roll can be done Sunday (although my review will probably be brief since I'll be on mobile and who knows what kind of WiFi)... so just a heads up. I will try hard so the roll can go at the normal time, but at worst it might be Sunday afternoon East Coast time? Which I think still leaves time for the roll to happen.
And I'm not planning to leave the US again before the end of this so it should be my only hiccup!

It's also my FWYS series. So I will finish it and then book 4.
But I think I don't like the author's writing style. I didn't enjoy book 1 or 2. I tried audio for book 1 and then I read book 2. I am reading 3, but I may try audio for book 4.
It's just boring!

Book Choice: The Ranger by Monica McCarty (Book 3, The Highland Guard series)
Read: May 13
Rating & Review: 3-stars.
I think I will call it quits on this series now. I have tried audiobook for book 1, I tried reading for book 2, I just don't click with this series.
This book has the Ranger, Arthur Campbell, spying on one of the remaining english loyalist clan, the MacDougall clan. Of course, Arthur finds himself drawn to Anna MacDougall, so he now caught between his duty to Bruce, and betraying his lady love's family.
There is a lot more posturing between the the remaining highlander clans and the clans who now endorse the Bruce. All of it placing obstacles betwen Anna and Arthur, because Anna's father asked her to do her duty to her clan and spy on Arthur. King Bruce asks Arthur to prove his loyalty and spy on the MacDougall's. So a lot of lies by omission go on here, leading to broken trust.
What will the lovebirds sacrifice to be together?
Monica McCarty's writing is boring to me. Every book has been a chore to finish. It is descriptive and good world building, but not enough emotion to engage me. I did like the H/h a lot, but not enough to continue with this series.
