Space 51
Book Choice: Falling (standalone) 230 pgs/GR

Rating: 3.5 stars
Review: I really liked parts of this. Christian is an operative for a magical "police force". He's hunting for a dark mage named Rogan, and goes to the US after a series of odd murders has happened there. He meets Alec, the police detective on that case. The magical "mystery" is fairly well telegraphed but that plot line is actually pretty interesting and engaging. Christian and Alex are both very sweet and quickly fall for each other. They're declaring love for each other very quickly, obviously there is supposed to be a big "connection" between them and it works but the dialogue was a bit too mushy. I liked the secondary characters, Christian's mother and his friends Jamie and Bella, they added levity. There is a lot of sex and some of it was fun to read but some of it just seemed out of the blue, especially for people who are in the middle of this big chase...

This is yet another series that I waited too long to get into. I have heard great things about it and none of them were wrong. I loved Zoey and her eclectic group of hidden friends. Maurice is so fantastic; I wish I had one of my own. I wouldn’t mind a Riley too, but maybe without his job.
I’ve read a lot of books featuring Incubus’ and I have to say this one was pretty damn creepy, even with all the laughs and ridiculousness that took up the majority of the book. Every scene featuring Sebastian was really well done, so much so that I got the heebie jeebies on more than one occasion. I can’t wait to read more of the series. I have all of the books and novellas published so far and I will definitely put this at the top of the list.

Book: Silent Revenge by Laura London (Standalone)
Read: May 22
Rating & Review: 5-stars. I really enjoyed this audiobook. Rosalyn Landor just knows how to enhance and transform a historical romance.
Lady Jessica Stanton had a secret that would ruin her family if the ton found out and she did everything to maintain the secrecy. But her step brother Colin, the Baron of Tanhill, is threatening to expose her secret because he wants her fortune/dowry. In order to protect herself, Jessica looks for someone who wasn't afraid of Colin and could protect her. She proposed marriage to her Simon Westland, Earl of Northcote who was on the verge of ruination. His father squandered his inheritance and Simon was in desperate need for money.
Jessica figured that her fortune was a good trade for Simon's protection.
But Simon has a bunch of secrets of his own, and what is Colin willing to do to get his hands on Jessica's inheritance? This one was full of suspense and anticipation.
This is my first book by Laura London and she wrote a book that was a little different but still full of the snobbery of the ton and the romance that I have come to appreciate about this regency period. I loved Jessica's inner strength and even though she had a disability, she found a way to overcome it. She is a strong heroine. Simon started off as an angry man, but he was good and it overcame his obsession with revenge. Love does overcome all after all.

Review: This is one of the best love triangle's that I've read in a long time! I had to read the manga version of the first book so I could remember all that had happened, but after that I was good to go. These book have so much detail and depth that I loved every minute of it! Definitely worth buying the manga version for review :)

Does this make any sense? In other words, I know I saw Fish & Chips on there but now I can't figure out how it gets listed, but really the one I want to read is Sticks & Stones

The way shelves work is just that it's whatever someone decides to shelve the book as. I have a humor shelf. For Sticks & Stones, people shelved it as lol time and lol d....but none did it as lol

This book read like the final book in a series. I can’t find out anywhere if it truly is the end for Jayné and the guys, but if it is, it was definitely a great way to go out. If not, I like that they can start with a brand new clean slate when they come back. There is a lot explained and revealed in this book, so much so that it could have easily felt like a huge info dump, but it didn’t…at least not for the majority of the book. There were a couple parts that felt a little heavy handed, but they were necessary.
From the very beginning, I like this series. It was different and interesting and I liked Jayné and how she was thrown into this world. There were a few hiccups along the way, but this was always a must read series. I needed to know how things would work out for them. I loved the way Jayné grew throughout the series and I love the way that the changes in her were mentioned in this book by Ex.
I really think this book was the perfect way to end this series. Everything was explained and there were no questions left in the end except where to go next. Wait…actually there was one thing was missed and that really makes me wish we had one more chapter left at least. I would have liked to have some resolution to the Jayné/Ex situation. It is obvious there was more there than what they both tried to brush off. Hopefully, if there is more to the series, we’ll get something good there. If not, I guess I’ll just have to live with what we did get and it was enough.

Book: Lover Unbound (#5 in BDB series) 528 pgs/GR

Rating & Review: 3.5 stars. Vishous, the brilliant, tech savvy brother. In book 4 he was pining over Butch and jealous over Marissa. In some ways it did feel like he was just looking for love himself and had focused those feelings on Butch, so here he finds his mate, Jane. I did love that he and Jane connected on an intellectual level and that Jane grew to appreciate him when he assisted her with Phury. I also liked some of the other side stories here, John Matthew goes through his transition and finds he's good with firearms. We also get quite a bit about Phury, setting up for the next story, although I wasn't that crazy about Cormia so we'll see. But ultimately there was so much here that just wasn't fun to read, Vishous and his whole back story is difficult, and he learns who his mother is and it's not all that comforting. There's further exploration of Vishous' D/s side but I didn't think that was handled too well. There's so much going on and while the romance between Vishous and Jane works, it felt a bit like an after thought. (view spoiler) ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Week 6: Roll 12, Space 53

Book: The Beast in Him by Shelly Laurenston (Alternative Read: LOL shelf)
Read: 5/28/14
Rating & Review: ★★★☆☆. I liked book 1 better, but this series is still a miss for me.
In this sequel, Bobby Ray Smith "Smitty" runs in his childhood friend Jessie Ann Ward, when Mason & Bobby are contracted to run security at one of Jessie's business functions. Smitty used to be Jessie's only real friend as Jessie was bullied by the other shifters. As a dog shifter and alpha of her pack, Jessie had a lot of responsibility, and getting with a werewolf would not please her pack.
But Smitty and Jessie Ann have unfinished business that started 15 years ago...and this is their time.
I was expecting funny and it wasn't that for me. The story was okay but not emotionally engaging. I can see how it is amusing to some because the Smith family is CRAZY! I liked Bobby Ray and Jesssie, but I didn't engage with them emotionally. This book was just okay.

Hey I was thinking last night... is there Vishous and Butch fanfic? Anything good? I'm not usually a big fanfic person but I was curious

YES!!! A gazillion of them. I read a couple and got so excited before someone explained to me that fanfic weren't really the author's vision, just an homage by fans. then I stopped reading them. Plus, I kept confusing facts from the fanfic with stuff that actually happened. so I didn't want it to blend together for me. I discontinued all fanfics of BDB

Yeah... that's why I usually don't read them. Maybe when I'm finished with the series, go back and read an alternate view... thanks for the info though.

Review: Another good Vampire Academy book! I liked this one a lot better than the last one, even though that was good as well. I loved the politics and the love triangle, I hope we get to a 6 space so I can finish this series!

Review: Leon is an assassin whose lover has been tortured and murdered. He takes care of the murderer but finds it doesn't bring him the relief he'd hoped for. He seeks relief at the bottom of a bottle which dulls his skills. His employer sends him off to the wilderness of Alaska to recuperate. He's attacked by a bear and left for dead until he's rescued by Grim. He's immediately attracted to Grim whose submissive ways indicate a rough upbringing. The story moves along very well and while it gets a bit unbelievable at the end I was able to suspend disbelief. Leon and Grim are both amazingly sweet, considering their backgrounds, and the development of there relationship is slow and enjoyable to read. I did have an issue "liking" Leon given some of the choices he makes later in the book, but if you're going to read a book with an assassin as a protagonist you have to be able to go with it. A solid story.

Week 7: Roll 13, Space 58

Book: Tempt Me with Darkness (Alternative Read: Published in August 28, 2008)
Read: 5/31/14
Rating & Review: ★★★☆☆. It wasn't bad, but it was slow and it didn't pull me in.
Basically, it is a book about two people whose attraction/love has spanned centuries and survived even as a different person in a different time period.
Marrock of Cadbury spent a night of "tupping" with Morgana Le FEythe sorcercess and they have been bound together since then. Since he rejected her, she cursed him and now he is never full satiated when he is with another woman, and he can never fully possess her.
He has been stumbling around for fifteen centuries looking for her so he can break the curse. He has the book necessary, but he also needs Morgana.
One day, a friend brings him to an art gallery in London, because the owner of the gallery loved some carvings he did. As soon as their eyes met, Marrock recognized her as the woman he has been searching for.
He ends up kidnapping her trying to force her to break the curse but they end up as bonded mates. The story gets convulted but basically as they are humping every 15 minutes, an evil wizard is looking for Morgana because he needs the power in her blood to complete his plan for world domination etc.
The story has potential but it wasn't smooth or really that enjoyable. I wasn't impressed with Shayla Black's writing style either. I may read book 2, just not anytime soon.

When I saw that Christine D’Abo had written a choose your own adventure set in her Long Shots Series I got really excited. I used to love choose your own adventure books when I was a kid and what better way to re-embrace them as an adult than as an erotic choose your own adventure? The book follows Tegan through the grand re-opening of the sex club Maverick’s. There were a lot of choices to be made, many different ways we could take Tegan since she is a switch and of course I had to explore them all.
The Dom Grant: This set of choices is where I would have preferred to stay. Grant was all sorts of hot and dominant, but also showed a softer side of himself by admitting his interest and checking on her. He wasn’t all Dom all the time, which was nice. And he definitely put Tegan through a really hot set of scenes. The ending choice where Grant shows up at her door is my favorite, of course. I would love to read a book with Grant and Tegan together later on because I want more of them.
Eli: Eli was my least favorite of the three men. He seemed overly whiny and clingy for someone who was a friend and nothing more. There was a moment at the end of the Grant/Tegan choices that made him seem even whinier. The scenes between Eli and Tegan were nowhere near as hot as those between Grant and Tegan and Adam and Tegan. I just didn’t get Eli and I couldn’t figure out why she was even attracted to him. The sex between them was hot, but I think that is just because Christine D’Abo knows how to write the hell out of a sex scene.
The Submissive Adam: I’m not a big fan of submissive men, which sometimes makes me laugh since I am not always a fan of overly dominant men either. Sometimes reading about submissive men kills things for me and takes me out of the hotness of the book. I kind of liked Adam though and I liked that they knew each other before. The scenes between these two were ridiculously hot, although not quite up to Dom Grant status.
The private rooms upstairs: The private rooms were interesting even though they didn’t include any of the guys and Tegan didn’t really participate in much. She watched an orgy which was pretty hot. The clothing room was a bit odd, but it was the wax room that really made this part of the story work. In the wax room we got to meet Jen and see Tegan actually get into the action. It was definitely hot and worthy of a repeat performance.
I would be interested in seeing a book where Grant is Tegan’s steady bed buddy, but where Adam makes appearances whenever Tegan needs to let her dominant side show. I think that would be the best of both worlds. As long as Eli doesn’t show his face anymore, then I think I would be happy with wherever Tegan went; even if where she goes includes the unexpected someone that can show up at her door at the end.

You are on fire, P!
great roll.
