Review: I think either you like this series or you don't, and I definitely got into it after book 3. Harry is one of those people who can easily gets themselves into trouble where they are way over their head but they do it to help someone else. It's one of those, I can't say no because living with myself would be worse than dealing with whatever trouble from it. Plus the trouble is going to end up with me anyway, so I might as well deal with it now while I have a head start. James Marsters is such an AWESOME narrator, I wish he would do more stuff. I enjoy this series and look forward to the next book in the series!

If you use any of those books please just make sure that they actually take place in New Mexico since some things gets shelved wrong.

Hi team, I am trying to decide which book I'll do, probably Fish and Ghosts which is a #1 in a series but I'll make it formal later....
Just wanted to check in.
My goodness. I was about to start my audio and Anita Blake is 19 hours. That's a little unnerving.

Based on the book summary I was excited to read this book since it sounded so different from other contemporary romances I’ve read. I thought it would be really interesting to see the life of an illegal immigrant and how she fits into the world around her. I think overall the story was good, although there were parts that were overdone and again some that were underdone. Really though it was the characters that fell short.
Ethan and Ana both often acted like they were barely out of their teens, instead of people in their twenties and thirties with a ton of life experience among them. I often felt like Theo, Ethan’s 15 year old son, acted more mature than Ethan and Ana. The way Ethan referenced “the mommies” and talked about how much they all wanted him was really kind of crass and made him sound like a total douchebag. Ana was supposed to be this strong, independent woman, but she couldn’t stand up for herself with anyone. Yeah some of her issues was the fear of getting found out, but she was still pretty ridiculous. And on top of that, the other adults in the book were just a bunch of weird gossip mongers that were, I think, trying to be helpful, but were really just making things worse. Who cares that they are your best friends in the whole world? How can you not see that telling them Ana’s secret was a big bad thing?
I wish I had liked this book more, but really I couldn’t stand the characters at all. I will try more from Serena Bell to see if this was just a fluke. I hope it was because there is potential here.

I think Obsidian Butterfly was the last good Hamilton book before it went downhill.

So I changed my mind a million times on this one (thanks Ezi for the Rebuilding Year suggestion, love Kaje), but...
I'm going with a standalone because I need it for the Pushing Boundaries challenge over in MMRG and I just want to get that one finished before Bingo starts LOL. I'm about 1/3 done so I'll finish it tonight and review it tomorrow.
So my choice:
Let It Go (standalone) 205 pgs / GR

Pushing boundaries has been interesting... it definitely pushes your boundaries but I like that. It's one of those, roll the dice, land on a square and pick a book, so I like that it picks my next book for me. But I'm almost finished and now I just want to get it done LOL.
Oh yea, that's why I didn't. i don't want to read some of those categories (m-preg, non-consent etc). Yes, I remember look at that challenge now.

Book Choice: Obsidian Butterfly by Laurell K. Hamilton (Book 9, Anita Blake)
Read: April 29
Rating & Review: 4.5-stars.
I think this was my favorite Anita story. Anita owed Edward the assassin a favor because she killed one his workers, and in this book Edward called in his marker.
Edward was still masquerading as Ted the Bounty Hunter, and now he was engaged to be married to a widow with 2 kids.
A monster is killing people and skinning them alive, so Edward assembled a team of the best supernatural monster hunters and killers that he knows, in order to find this skin peeling murderer.
This murderer is obviously supernatural but Anita is in danger from a fanatic police officer, Edward's other assassin Olaf, and possibly the monster. But Anita does what Anita does best---hunt and kill the supernatural predator.
This book didn't have Jean Claude or Richard, because Anita had been avoiding them for over 6 months. Anita wanted to figure out who she wanted and she needed space. So this book was a partnership with Edward. It was well written because the audio was 19 hours and I never felt the length. I actually liked "Ted" with Donna, and the kids Becca and Peter. It made the stone cold assassin more humane and he wasn't as scary.
I like that Olaf will be back so that means Edward will be back. I look forward to that.

I'm so conflicted on this, there was a point where I was ready to give up on this. As most reviews note, this one is very dark and Creed and Eli are put through the ringer. What I liked though was how it rolled out slowly. These guys have known each other for 10 years and while they were instantly attracted to each other, they have kept their distance. Creed tries to stay out of Eli's way and Eli lashes out because he wants Creed's attention. When they're finally forced to communicate with each other they face that attraction for what it is. While the connection between them is strong these guys have been really damaged and they have to work through that, and they do. And it's painful, for them, and for us to watch. There are lots of flaws in this book, there are some things that just seem unrealistic (view spoiler)
So, bottom line this ended up working for me, although there were definitely points along the way that I questioned that.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Yeah, I don't think my boundaries push that far :) I'm barely into the M-M stuff because I'm too busy reading everything else, but I wouldn't mind reading a few. I did not like 50 shades, but it was the writing that irritated me. I just read the sex scenes skipped over the rest.

I think that's why that one was my favorite, because it wasn't about Anita's sex drive.

Read: The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd
Date: 4/30/2014
Rating: *****
Review: This book was very difficult to get through. It's about slavery in the south through the eyes of two women, one slave and one white. They're both searching for freedom, but it's different for each one. Parts of the story made me uncomfortable because I knew they must've been true. It's a portrait of a sad part of American History but it was beautifully written.

That would confuse me. lol
Speaking of confused. I was just updating our review thread and couldn't remember your book name completely so I entered The Invention of Monks. HA! Well close enough since it was the first thing that came up.

in the m-m Bingo, they don't let you use the same book for both challenges. So I end up reading 3 books a week over there.
@Paris: Invention of the monks is good too:D
