I know... I can't believe I haven't started that madness yet but it's time. And how fitting, for a challenge that features series LOL.
Week 1, Roll 2: Space "11"

Book Choice: A Rogue by Any Other Name by Sarah MacLean (The Rules of Scoundrels, Book 1)
Read: April 21
Rating & Review: ★★★.
I don't have DNF shelf, but I seriously considering creating one for this book. What a complete disappointment.
This book featured Penelope Marbury, current spinster, whose father had to entice suitors by bequeathing a very sort-after property to Penelope as part of her dowry.
See Penni had been engaged, but she was jilted a week before the marriage, and it created a scandal in the ton. The fall-out also affected the marriage options for Penelope's younger twin sisters. So Penni's parents were doing anything to unload the Penni and focus on securing a more favorable match for the younger ones.
The land that was added to Penni's dowry used to belong to the Marquess of Bourne, but he lost it 9 years ago in a card game, those losing his legacy and good name at a gaming hall. Michael, the Marquess of Bourne, swore vengance against all those who stood by while he lost his inheritance.
Michael and 2 of his friends began a gaming hell named The Fallen Angel, where they amassed information against most of the peerage. Michael hoped to cash this in when the time was right and recover his ancestral land.
When his childhood friend Penni became the new owner of this land, Michael Bourne finally saw his chance and he seized it. He made it clear he would do anything and use anyone to achieve his revenge and get his lands, and his childhood friend Penni was no exception.
Penni remembered her childhood friend Michael, but the man she was tricked into marrying was an obsessed bitter man who preferred to be called Bourne. Thus began the marriage of the overly optimistic and hopelessly romantic lady Penni and the callous, angry and ruthless Marquess Bourne. I found him hard to stomach. He treated her badly, he used her badly and he tried his friend Tommy very cruely.
The author took a long time to begin redeeming Michael because his later actions (securing matches for Penni's sister, try to court her later, not using the blackmail info against Tommy) did not fully atone for the malice I felt from him earlier one. I just couldn't get past it.
Also Penni's martyr complex drove me nuts. I wanted to slap her a few times and say "snap out it".
The book ended well, but not well enough for me. I will try book 2, but if the heroine and hero are this annoying, I won't continue the series.

Searching for Someday by Jennifer Probst
Rating: 3 Stars
Finished: 9/20/14
Searching for Someday is the first book in a new series by Jennifer Probst. I've read another book by Jennifer not too long ago and enjoyed it enough to keep her in my to read author list. This book is a little difficult for me to review. Overall, I enjoyed it. There was definitely something fun and cute about this book that kept me engaged, but there were also a lot of moments that had me shaking my head.
Also, this book lacked something for me. I enjoyed the idea of the matchmaking series and the way things played out between the characters. But I don't know if I actually liked Slade and Kate. Or maybe I didn't like Slade and Kate together. I'm not really sure. Sometimes they were fine both separate and apart and other moments I hoped that when I turned the page one of the other characters were there instead. One of the best things about Kate and Slade was Kate's dog Robert. I loved seeing both of them with him.
I also really loved that the love spells book from Jennifer's Marriage to a Billionaire series showed up. I'm interested to see how the book is incorporated into the future books in this series. And while I may not have been 100% sold on the couple in this book, I did like some of the side characters and am very much intrigued by their stories, so we'll see where this goes.

Thanks Ezi. I hope you're right. Remember to send those vibes to me tomorrow before you go to bed.
Jamie, thanks for checking in!

Book 1 of the Series

Review: I think the only thing that classifies this book as a Young Adult Genre is that the main character is a teenager. Other than that, this book reads like an adult novel to me. This is a re-read from 2 years ago and I don't think I really paid attention the first time I read it. I had pretty much forgotten what the book was about, but this was a really great read, er re-read! The characters and setting were really detailed and the story was good.

Book: Cut & Run

Book #1 of Series

Review: This was a great start to a series! I love Ty and Zane and their banter and their whole relationship and I can't wait to see it develop. The mystery was pretty good and certainly kept me interested even though I was pretty sure I'd figured out who the killer was. It did detract a little bit since Ty & Zane are supposed to be so good, but... we as readers are given hints that these guys don't see so it was fine. From the initial descriptions of Zane as this buttoned up, by the rules guy paired with Ty, the renegade former Marine, it was hard to see how these two would get together. But when they did, yikes. I loved Ty's skepticism, figuring Zane's playing him, but going for it anyway! I didn't give it 5 stars because of some of the inconsistencies but I did love the dialogue and I am eager to read Sticks & Stones

I feel like the only person who didn't like this book. I listened to it a couple of years ago and didn't get the interest. In fact, I couldn't tell you a thing about the book, not even a character name.
Maybe I will revisit it.

Here are some of my possibilities:

I liked it, but for some reason the momentum of the book just drops from 60 to like 5 mph half way through the book. That's probably why I didn't remember the story or why I didn't move onto book 2. It switches from action action action to nothing but angst in the middle.
Paris, do NOT pick up Maybe Someday unless you are okay with some tears. Colleen Hoover is an angst queen. That book was awesome!

That might fix it. Too bad I didn't get into the Dresden series back before I was so hardcore into romance.

On those two particular series - I actually like them - I can read a couple of them but then I need to read some other couple HEA series in between. I like the Iron Druid series because I can usually safely give them to my son to read...
We would love to add you when you are ready. Paris has been rolling great numbers.
Those series don't have enough love/romance for me.

Week 2: Space 15
Book Choice: Static by L.A. Witt (Standalone) 283 pages per GR
Read: April 25
Rating & Review: ★★★. This one flopped for me.
It started off with an intriguing premise, but the story just ended up cliche and predictable.
Damon and Alex had been dating for quite a while when all of a sudden Alex disappeared. After no return calls, Damon decided to start his search party at Alex's apartment. Upon knocking on his girlfriend's door, some dude answered the door. Furthering Damon's shock was the man's assertion that HE was Damon's girlfriend Alex...at least his other half. It was then the man, Jason, revealed that he was a shifter. He was born male, named Jason by his parents. But after he began shifting as an adolescent, he chose a unisex name "Alex".
Thus began Damon's discovery of Alex's family, and his past. Alex still wanted to be with Damon as both a man and as a woman...could Damon handle that?
The world building was weak. It just seemed to be one of those tolerance messages that "it's the person inside you love" NOT the outside body/shell. I expected a little more angst and confusion but I am glad things worked out perfectly for Damon and Alex.

I wanted to like this but I just couldn't get past how inappropriate these guys were at times. It's the same thing that happened in How To Save A Life where they're in the middle of investigating something and then hot & heavy and going at it. The mystery here is pretty good and kept me interested but I also couldn't get past the idea that these guys had no idea who the other one was. So... that's why the lower rating. That said, if I gave up all pretence that this was believable the story did keep me involved and I was rooting for Jay and Linc. I did believe that Jay could forgive Linc and then helpl Linc forgive himself I just didn't quite see it happening the way it unspooled here....

After reading the first book in this series, I wasn't sure what to expect with His Risk to Take. I liked Protecting What's His, but it wasn't my favorite Brazen book and I was hoping that the rest of the series would go up from there. And thankfully so far it has. I enjoyed His Risk to take far more than I did Protecting What's His. I think it was a lot easier to connect with Tony and Ruby and that made the book more enjoyable.
Nothing felt off or out of place in Tony and Ruby's relationship. I loved that Tony was such a dirty talker and Ruby never backed down from him. There was a bunch of heat between them. I did feel like this could have probably been fleshed out a bit more, but it was a quick, easy read that made me want to continue the series. I really enjoyed the bits and pieces we got of Daniel and Brent in this book and look forward to seeing more of each of them in their respective stories.

Plus, we can't roll until Suzanne posts her review.
