Jean | 2387 comments I haven’t been on this board in ages! Speaking of ages, Janet, very belated birthday wishes. 50 is only a number, a matter of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter. Easy to say when it’s someone else’s number!!! I just got my Medicare card because I turn 65 in Feb. how did THAT happen so fast???? Anyway, happy holidays, everyone. Let’s make 2019 a safer, happier, kinder year.

Amber Martingale If I can get medical clearance by the 7th of next month, I'm having cataract surgery for my right eye on Valentine's Day, so I probably won't be online that day.

message 10319: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Let's hope you never have to decide between cataract surgery or going blind from cataracts because you'd rather wear glasses, Christine.

Thanks, Sonya.

message 10324: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 5526 comments Well Amber the reason I don’t want cataract surgery is because i’ve had so much surgeries and besides my health isn’t good anyway so if I would get cataract surgery I’m afraid something will happen with my eyes and besides my eyesight isn’t that good and that’s why I have to wear glasses

message 10325: by P.K. (last edited Jan 10, 2019 10:22AM) (new)

P.K. Davies | 549 comments Hey Amber. Catarract surgery is great. It improved my sight by 40%. But here in Uk it's free. Warning though; you may see people as they really are. Good luck

message 10326: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale For you that's probably a good reason, Christine, but every surgery carries a risk of something going wrong, including dental extractions.

At this point, P.K., I'd settle for even a 25% improvement in my right eye since I have cataracts in both eyes. My right eye is the worst of the two, though.

Christine, I just turned 65, and a few years ago, my eye sight started to get worse. Yes, I had cataracts in both eyes, but I also had the cornea breaking down, a hereditary disease. I ended up having a combination of cataract & cornea transplant done on each eye. They did the surgery, a few years apart. I was awake for the surgery, and I was terrified of what to expect, as I have a low threshold to pain. Everything went well, because I have faith in my surgeon, one of a few surgeons that can do this surgery in Canada. Today, my eye sight is perfect, and I can read to the bottom of the list. (before I was on the first row). I will be on drops for life, but I love to read and work on the computer, this surgery was fine, and cataract surgery is so common, that my mom who was not in good health, had the surgery at 80 years of age, and went out for dinner the same night. Good luck!

Wow, Sue! I love that your eyesight is great now at 65. That's fantastic. Thank you for sharing that with us. I'm sure we're all extra wary when it comes to eyes. I know I am. It's reassuring to read about other experiences. This week I lost a pair of reading glasses and broke another pair!! I'm doing well! 😉👓📖

Thanks Janet. I am so grateful that they saved my sight. If I didn't have the surgery, I would have gone blind. Everything is great!

I second Janet's "Wow!" The very fact I won't be allowed any alcohol right after surgery makes me want one anyway, especially if it's hard cider.

Sean, my sympathies...at least about your sugar.

Today a difficult decision was made, and I hope all members will understand.

For the enjoyment of all members who come here to discuss many topics and have fun.

Amber Martingale has been deleted/banned from this group.

We have given many warning previously, and also posted here and asked her not to be so rude to members.

But again Janet and myself have has e-mails from upset members.

Over the last 2-3 years friends/members have told me they have left the group because of her behaviour.

Today that has stopped. Believe me not a easy decision and rather upsetting as I know she could be really helpful and inviting to new members.

But no good welcoming them and then being really rude to them.

On a day I am waiting to her if one of my old cats (Milly) is coming home after suffering a stroke.. My wife and I are at home waiting for a telephone call..

message 10343: by Thereadingbell (new)

Thereadingbell Thank you for informing us and it is unfortunate that people act in toxic ways. Sometimes it is because they have a not so good life and they lash out. Words matter especially written because people take written words with the context they are written in even though it can be taken out of context or not the way you intended to come across. I find myself to be careful in word choice to not offend even in my reviews I try to at least look for some shiny part of a book to appreciate the hard work even though I may not like the book. I appreciate the work that went into creating it. No one should feel unwelcome endure rudeness or any other toxic behavior. Sometimes I find myself pausing and rereading responses and asking myself does that sound rude the way I typed a response. It is self awareness and sometimes it may take a nudge from someone else to remind us that what we are saying sounded rude. I personally appreciate everything all you moderators in all the book groups I am in and the hard work you put into them. Thank you so much being part of this and a couple other groups brighten my day and it is enjoyable to discuss books or post the completion of a book. I am sorry Sean about your cat my dogs are my children and god I know how hard it is when they are not doing well. I hope all have a nice weekend and enjoy the books you are reading.

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 5526 comments I understand Sean and Janet and Sean i’m very sorry that your cat passed away

message 10345: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2434 comments Sean and Janet, I've had discussions in the past with Amber, and long ago chose not to engage with her. Newcomers to the group aren't aware of how she is and have to take her at face value. I, for one, agree with your decision and know how hard it was for you to make.

More importantly, Sean, I'm sending good vibes to Milly. I hope the vets can help her, but know you'll do what's best for her.

Sue (coccotoro) | 2087 comments I am sorry, Sean about your cat, Millie. We went throughpain in July of 2018 when one of our Labs had to be put down. Our pets are our babies, and for us our children. Worst pain we ever went through.Take care Sean. I send hugs.

Thanks all, a sad day and a hard decision.

Milly still at vets(not passed away Christine).

All day had lots of injections, we know she is a 15 year old Bermin, which is a good age, suffers with IBS, has to take tablets every day, but sometimes does not eat or drink and gets very weak and wobbly.

My wife and I have made the decision not to fly her on a plane for an hour for an MRI scan at her age and the stress.

we are waiting to hear if she is well enough to come home and has eaten.

It has been a long day

Our cats are our children, we adore them. Buddy sleeps every day with his sister as well. (pictures of both on our home page )

Tough too about Amber. I suspect it will be devastating for her, but she didn't seem to learn did she?
