Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 5526 comments I agree with everyone about staying home this weekend because of that stupid snowstorm and this Saturday i’m staying home and this Sunday i’m going to a baby shower with my mom

message 10404: by Lynn Renee (new)

Lynn Renee | 1707 comments I’ll definitely be hibernating...Of course a major snow storm comes thru on the weekend. The city plows the streets but a lot of the businesses that are closed (even ones that are open) don’t clear their sidewalks or the curb cuts if they are at an intersection. I won’t even be able to get out to walk my service dog due to the snow buildup. Thank God that I have a friend that will come and walk him three times a day. Being right on Lake Erie and the lake and bay not being frozen will be a huge factor in the amount of snow we get. It basically boils down to which way the wind blows lol. We either get dumped on on the Lakefront or we get snow but the worst hits a bit south, never really know till it hits what will happen. Everyone stay safe this weekend. ☃️❄️

message 10406: by Valleri (new)

Valleri Sean, I'm so relieved Millie is doing well.

We had LOTS of wind in Central Oregon yesterday. 40 MPH with gusts up to 63 MPH. A tree two doors down from me blew down and took my power out for most of the day. Nothing like living in an all-electric house without electricity. Brrr!

Thank you Val...

I have sent out a Group message, interested with your comments.

For us moderators we do not like sending many out, today I thought due to our Read a long it was worth it.

Alas within 30 seconds 2 members had left the group.

Do we inform members of news or not....

I wish I knew the answer.

Thanks.

Today lost 12 members due to group message, but also 3 members did introduce themselves.

message 10411: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) What? Why? They left because you sent a message? Maybe people that sensitive shouldn't be in the group in the first place.

message 10412: by Thereadingbell (new)

Thereadingbell I do not think people left because of email I think people come and go because they make some new years resolution to read more they look around think this is a group for them and realize they are not committed like they thought they would be and leave. I also think that dwelling on who comes and goes pulls your energy away from the people who are here and active. You have done a good job with the group you went from 40 to 7k in a few years that is great growth. Every group has ups and downs with people joining. I know I am new and plan to stay around and I enjoy each group I am in for different reasons. I left some groups I joined when I first set up my goodreads account but I joined them because a website recommended them to me. When I got my footing in the goodreads groups and site then I chose groups more appealing to me. Focus on the ones that stay and hope the ones that leave find a group that fits them.

Susanne, I've been telling Sean that for years!! 😉 Totally agree! It's only because he cares so much. I think we do ok and we're getting new participation which is great. 🙂

Sean Peters | 10534 comments Mod
I do understand this, but it still bothers me that when you try to help members and keep then informed with a message they leave.

Just frustrating, although I know some would anyway, and some are not active. But it does still upset me after all we are only trying to help.

As a group we are growing incredible, I always like to hope more will be more active.

message 10415: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I absolutely love this group! It is just so darn friendly!!

Diane Lynch (dianedesmarrstlynch) | 306 comments Sean wrote: "Thanks.

They were people not interested in the group. When they saw the message the thinking was “I never go there” so they unsubscribe. It’s not because of the messenge they decided to leave. They left becauy they were never here so why participate

message 10417: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2434 comments I agree with Diane. The email serves as a reminder that they joined this group once upon a time, but they don’t participate so they decide to leave. Perhaps they found another group that suits them better, or they don’t even participate in Goodreads any more.

Let it go, Sean. 😠 🙂

My wife will be happy now, another tennis grand slam is over !!

I set the alarm to go off at 4.00 am every day for the two weeks, to watch tennis before I leave for work.

The weekend the finals were 8.00 am, watched both.

message 10430: by Diane S ☔ (new)

Diane S ☔ | 2077 comments I'm tired of it too, and the forties Sunday and Monday are going to feel nice. Though if everything starts melting on the top layers and the perma frost is still frozen, water may find it's way into people's basements.

Sorry, Christine. Didn't mean to ignore you. I have to confess I've never been a fan of football ... even though I was in Drill Team a million years ago and we did all of the halftime shows. 😜

Lynn Renee | 1707 comments Finally got out of the house today for the first time in three weeks. Barely any wind and a balmy 50°F I didn’t even need to wear gloves. Took Otto for a walk and we ended up wandering around while I played Pokémon Go for 4 hours 🙃. I’ve got one tired pup not to mention myself, at 12 years old that is a lot of walking for Otto but even in a wheelchair the sidewalks and streets beat the heck out of my body. As long as it doesn’t rain I hope to get out again tomorrow.

And below...

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001627/?...

One of the most famous actors of the 50's, 60's and 70's.

First black actor to win a leading role Academy Award, a great director and author.

message 10449: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Bergman (marshop) | 1229 comments Years ago, we were celebrating my sister's birthday at the Islander in Beverly Hills. Sidney Poiter was called to the phone near where we were waiting for our table. A member of our party approached him to tell him about her 8th birthday & he grabbed a napkin and autographed it for her. She still has it.
