I get $733 a month in Supplemental Security Income and $410 of that has to go just to my RENT! Another approx. $50 to my power bill, $130 to my twice a month housekeeper, anywhere from $33 to $150 out of pocket for my dental and the rest to things like laundry or whatever I need to buy for my household that my SNAP won't cover...like dishwasher detergent or whatever OTC meds I need (like alcohol swabs for my Humulin 70/30 pen needle)...and I don't have enough left for even PIRATED TV.
Hell, I'm lucky if I can OCCASIONALLY afford a matinee show at the local movie theater!

And Amber, I do understand. Taking care of yourself is more important. It should be against the law to have to pay to look at tv--I mean, honestly!

I have given up totally. no doubt they will get to the end have a cliffhanger and of course there is no next season to tie it all off
I suppose I should read, I've requested a few books and have a lot to um .... well.... read! Eeeeeek!
It's a hot and sticky night and I'm supposed to be asleep. (It is 2:00 am!). This could be a long, sleep deprived night.

P.S. Janet, try laying a wet (cold water) washcloth over your head or neck when you go to bed on those sticky nights. Worked great for me when I was a kid in Tennessee in the pre-air conditioner days.
I know what you mean Janet! I had a horrible night sleep too, too humid!! We need a thunderstorm...

Think we've got even warmer weather to come next week, Kimberley.

I can tell you - I am so thankful for A/C. I remember the days I didn't have it and I was raising a family in Ohio. Man, it can get blazing hot and humid there.
Top of my Gratitude List today...........A/C.
When all else fails....sitting in a nice cool bathtub with a glass of wine, helped!!!!

Yes Janet , supposed to get up to 30.. Lovely if you can just sit and chill in the garden... But when getting on with normal life becomes unbearable...

Oak Ridge, Ter'e. Isn't David from LaFollette?
Christine, we barely get a Summer!! If the UK was guaranteed 3 months of excellent weather, we'd be a happier nation!! We shouldn't really complain when it's hot ... but we do!!

Yay! I'm going to see this covered on The Daily Show, if it will.
Don't know about you all, but I actually really like the autumn/winter. I LOVE the cold dark nights, snuggled inside with a book. Best feeling ever. The summers good for getting washing dry I suppose...
No I like sunny weather really, just not so hot you can hardly breathe and you need about 10 showers a day...

Amen!!!!! It's about damn time.
(Sorry Sean).
How can we go forward on some things......and backwards on so many others?
This is one decision I say AMEN to!!!!!

Yes, Christine, David was born in LaFollette. i think I knew you were from OR, but I had forgotten.
He still has some family there.......but not much.
He CHANGED when he met me. i broadened his horizons, for sure.

Fans rolling here (every room, almost has one) and the a/c is rolling.
I feel sorry for our homeless.

And have the legal rights of all married people!

Last year Indian Court declared that same-sex is not only prohibited but also an arrest-able and punishable crime.
The world moves forward, we move backwards.

Re: A/C. Air conditioning was initially invented for use in a hospital's malaria and yellow fever wards...if I remember correctly.
" In 1820, English scientist and inventor Michael Faraday discovered that compressing and liquefying ammonia could chill air when the liquefied ammonia was allowed to evaporate. In 1842, Florida physician John Gorrie used compressor technology to create ice, which he used to cool air for his patients in his hospital in Apalachicola, Florida.[8] He hoped to eventually use his ice-making machine to regulate the temperature of buildings. He even envisioned centralized air conditioning that could cool entire cities.[9] Though his prototype leaked and performed irregularly, Gorrie was granted a patent in 1851 for his ice-making machine.[10] His hopes for its success vanished soon afterwards when his chief financial backer died; Gorrie did not get the money he needed to develop the machine. According to his biographer, Vivian M. Sherlock, he blamed the "Ice King", Frederic Tudor, for his failure, suspecting that Tudor had launched a smear campaign against his invention. Dr. Gorrie died impoverished in 1855, and the idea of air conditioning went away for 50 years.
Since prehistoric times, snow and ice were used for cooling. The business of harvesting ice during winter and storing for use in summer became popular towards the late 19th century.[11] This practice was replaced by mechanical ice-making machines.
James Harrison's first mechanical ice-making machine began operation in 1851 on the banks of the Barwon River at Rocky Point in Geelong (Australia). His first commercial ice-making machine followed in 1854, and his patent for an ether vapor compression refrigeration system was granted in 1855. This novel system used a compressor to force the refrigeration gas to pass through a condenser, where it cooled down and liquefied. The liquefied gas then circulated through the refrigeration coils and vaporised again, cooling down the surrounding system. The machine employed a 5 m (16 ft.) flywheel and produced 3,000 kilograms (6,600 lb) of ice per day.[citation needed]
Though Harrison had commercial success establishing a second ice company back in Sydney in 1860, he later entered the debate over how to compete against the American advantage of unrefrigerated beef sales to the United Kingdom. He wrote: "Fresh meat frozen and packed as if for a voyage, so that the refrigerating process may be continued for any required period", and in 1873 prepared the sailing ship Norfolk for an experimental beef shipment to the United Kingdom. His choice of a cold room system instead of installing a refrigeration system upon the ship itself proved disastrous when the ice was consumed faster than expected.[12]" from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_con...

I am sorry to learn that, Titas. I need to be grateful to have been born in this country in regards to this issue.

Friday started well for me this morning when I did a wee test with my tape measure round my waist and hips - 2 inches off the waist 4 off the hips! guess I need to get back to the gym and get working harder!!
I'm NOT going to say how many inches need to come off my hips and waist! There isn't a tape measure long enough! :-\
