Talia (kneyda) | 217 comments I was waiting to buy Dearest Bloodiest Elizabeth in paperback and the hard cover came out today. Price? $29.99. This one will have to be read as an ebook.

That is so sad! I can't shell out that much. I wish she had released it as a paperback. I will have to try to win one! :)

Oh, I've missed a few here. So many are going steady with the books and the challenge. Next year, I'm adding a real Mr. Darcy's Library challenge level and we need a cool Pinterest picture type of dream library so feel free to let me know if you've seen some breathtaking old estate library pics we can use. :)

Wow, Debbie, you must be exhausted, but so neat that you get gramma time. :)

And so glad to see Barb feeling better and woohoo, London. :)

We need to add a few carpets or rugs and some cozy sofas and arm chairs...But it is gorgeous!

Thank you for the compliments. Debbie, your grandson must come first as we all know.

Lenora, you may see above that I added unpublished books and then just added in the link for others who might want to read the story.

Yes, it does need to be more cozy. All that tile and high ceilings would probably echo and not be comfortable.

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments I just finished reading By the Numbers by Jancat http://meryton.com/aha/index.php?show...

Loved it. About 175 pages, and a modern tale. It is one of those "feel good" stories that you want to go back to and reread when you feel the need for romance and soothing prose.

Darcy is so clueless but also sweet and caring, etc.

message 2270: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments I finished reading A New Beginning, and I'm very glad I also learned that it continued with a less abrupt ending in The End of the Beginning, which I also read. Very good unpublished story. I haven't written my review yet, but it'll probably be 3.5 stars.

I usually upload pictures or graphics to my Photobucket.com account (which is free to set up) and then copy the html code provided when I'm on the page displaying the picture to paste here. There are probably other ways to do it, but that's my amateur techie way. :) I can go into detail how that is done if you want that.

Maybe others can jump in with their ways to get a picture's html code so the picture can upload here on GR?

Oh man, you have no idea. My idea of instructions would have been 'go to this page', 'click here', 'click here', 'copy this', and 'paste it here' and etc. ;) But yes this stuff is definitely a foreign and unknown language. :)

Oh, I do want to thread the dragon book. :) Bummer about the other, I had that one on my list too- lowering expectations now. ;)

message 2282: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments I'd have rated it higher, but I was disgusted that it was entitled "An Elizabeth and Darcy Story" when it certainly wasn't the Pride and Prejudice characters. I expected it to be off-canon based on other reviews, but the plot was truly unrecognizable compared to the original with the exception of character names and places. (I'm still steaming about it!!!)

Yes, sometimes they do go far away from canon and when the connection is that thin, it can be iffy. I've actually said a few times in reviews of these sorts of books that it's better to pretend its an unconnected story with similar names than to treat it as JAFF/Austenesque.

message 2285: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Yes, but I don't think it's fair to unsuspecting JAFFers who are looking to read something that's actually JAFF, look at the ratings average, and then buy a book rated highly only to find that it's not as advertised. Makes me furious, and I slash stars off my rating to try to prevent that.

As a reader, I greatly appreciate this approach in your review. If I want to read JAFF, I want to read JAFF. If I want to read a regency romance that's not JAFF, then I want to read that and will search accordingly.

I get you, ladies! It is a betrayal of sorts and can feel like a gimic. Slap a Mr. Darcy in the title and gain extra readership from the JAFF community.

Maybe there needs to be some sort of code for these loosely connected types so the reader knows exactly what they are getting if/when they pick one up. Like this is a distant cousin from P&P or something.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Dang... wouldn't you know it, I've already bought it. Well, something needs to hold up and stabilize my TBR pile...so it will be assigned to the bottom. Maybe I will read it next year, or the next year...who knows.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments That's the only kind I buy each year. I make sure it is the kind that I like so when there is some left over... I can eat it. In the past, I would take it to school. Now that I am retired... I take it to church and hype up the Sunday School kids, ruin their lunch and send them home to their parents. Yeah, they have a cool SS teacher.

I just finished reading it, and it is truly marvelous. Best and most sympathetic and yet believable characterization of Mrs. Bennet that I've ever come across. Nice positive theme throughout.
