60. Chaos Comes to Longbourn: A Pride and Prejudice Variation - 2.5 Stars ☆☆
Implausibility diminished enjoymentCan view my bookshelf for this challenge at https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
I enjoy a little chaos in my JAFF reads, but this variation was just not plausible. The author had to have our beloved characters act wholly out of character to rearrange and pair them eccentrically. The idea should have been entertaining, but it just wasn’t for me.
You know, Nicole, I agree with you in principle, but my humor is just sophomoric enough to stay entertained through the whole book, so I just went with it, implausible or not!
Nicole, If I had read Chaos without anyone having said anything about it...I would have been horrified and might not have even finished it. As it was, my GR friends had prepared me for the [how did Debbie put it?] sophomoric humor and I went into it knowing it was going to be chaos. I gritted my teeth until it started to work itself out so I could enjoy the story. I still think the author missed a perfect opportunity to get Lydia & Mrs. B off Darcy's back. Tell Lydia of all the restrictions that he would require of her... her movements [due to age], no dances, no callers, no visiting, no balls or parties, and no pin money until she turned 21. And she had to spend at least 6-8 hours a day with tutors. That would have been fun. So easy.
Debbie wrote: "You know, Nicole, I agree with you in principle, but my humor is just sophomoric enough to stay entertained through the whole book, so I just went with it, implausible or not!"I have to agree, Debbie, it tickled the guilty pleasure humor in me. It was silly but fun. And, Nicole has it so correct. Darcy, if he had been thinking it through, could have horrified Lydia into breaking it off immediately. But, I don't think he was actually looking at it objectively. He was in panic mode...
I have enjoyed other chaotic JAFF reads, but unsure really why I did not find this one entertaining. I am confused, I did not find it funny at all. Hmm... I like the author... I am stumped.
Sometimes it's just the kind of mood I'm in. I've been known to reread a book a second time, and sometimes I find that my opinion has changed.
I agree Mary. My GR friends and I don't always agree but...that is what I love about you guys. We rally in spite of our differences. I love that. My 5-stars might be your 2-stars or even a 1-star and yet I will still love you for your sense of humor, your faithfulness and you determination to not roll your eyes when I say something that embarrasses the crap out of you. So, we are all different but we stand together. Speaking of standing, I need to get off this soap-box before I break a leg or ankle. I am too old to be up this high. Hello... can I get an assist here? OK, who moved the ladder? Common guys, not cool. Hello...hello...hello, oh great, not the echo. Man....man, man...now stop that.
LOL. We can never stay serious here for too long, can we? Jeanne, you're always willing to be the class clown to break us up. Love you!
I think I'm ADHD - the H, so that leaves ADD, no wonder I got along with most of my teenagers. The principal never knew what he would encounter when he walked in my class. It was a hoot when we would be in full tirade discussing a topic, arguing a point, discussing how to solve a problem, or defending an answer. I'd turn and there he would be... standing in the doorway, just watching, sometimes smiling. Lawd, the kids loved it.
Jeanne,I know I haven't known you very long, but in all the deliciously devilish fun we've shared, along with the rest of the gang,I've never known you to 'embarrass the crap' out of anyone! It's simply not your style! As for any of us rolling our eyes,or preventing ourselves from doing so,in utter despair at your 'behaviour',that too would be a negative!
As for being stuck on that soapbox,Jeanne,me thinks the lady doth protest too much!!! I think your current position kinda suits you!
Ludwig Wittgenstein said, "Never stay up on the barren heights of cleverness, but come down into the green valleys of silliness."And my favorite, " If people never did silly things nothing intelligent would ever get done. " I think I like him.
Besides, I used to live in Green Valley here in my town. I kid you not.

Sounds like my kind of guy, too!
Love the JAFF community and especially this group! You ladies are a hoot! Loving all the conversations!

Just logged on... Sheila... OMG!!! Look at you, that is excellent. Yep, definitely need new reading Libraries. Woohoo!!!
Teresa-yes,we certainly are,and can only stand by in utter amazement! Jeanne-well have to build a new extension in Pemberley,to house the numerous libraries necessary for the 200+ group!
Sheila is sure wiping the floor with the rest of us! Good thing she's such a sweetheart, or we'd have to hate her!
Debbie, for many months you were way out ahead but then you had a grandchild and found yourself part of a singing group so it is more that you headed off into the sunset than I took a lead.
We could move the Darcy family to the Dowager house, and turn the rest of Pemberley into a library. All those different wings full of books, lawd, be still my heart. Now who will be the brave soul to announce this brilliant idea to Darcy and Elizabeth? I think, if we stick together, we might be able to take them. Yes?
J.W. you stay up on that box I am sure that many of us will be right there with you and we really are not a bad bunch to be with

Great to read of your progress! Some good books there. I always look to see if others have found ones I might not have read and ones that they rate high.
As I walk down the book trail, I usually see that you and/or Debbie have been there before me. Rarely do I get ahead of you. Occasionally I might get a sneak peak at a book before you, but for the most part, I follow in y'all's footsteps. I find that most excellent, and shows that I have good taste as well as the good sense to follow the best.
But as the new year approaches who knows what will happen. I do have some projects calling me so must sooner or later, get up off this chair and tend to them. So as the spirit moves others may take u the flag.
I am looking forward to the start of the new year and a new challenge. Since I only started GR in May of this year, I got a late start and had to play catch-up as I created my GR book shelves. Whew, that was a project. Now that I have that in line, it should help the new year begin on a smoother note. I think I am lowering my challenge number as this one pushed me and I don't want it to be a burden. Like you said, there are things that have to be attended to in the new year.
I don't even have book shelves although i know this site "shelves" those I have read or want to read. But it is just too time consuming to think about all the possible shelves for each book as far as I am concerned. Most of mine are JAFF/P&P variations...anyway. There are a few modern take off and a few sequels.
I was having trouble remembering if I had read a book or not and this was a way to keep the book, when I read it and the review. Since I had been here such a short time, it was easier. I just started logging those books where I had a copy of a review. That took a bit of work but I have it organized now. You know that OCD business.
I think those of us who read a large quantity all probably have our systems of keeping track. As I started to get more obsessive about reading JAFF, I found I HAD to do so! First it was a written journal with just the name of a book and the date I read it, then I added more notations with a number rating for each and whether I owned it, borrowed it (KU) or found it online. Then I set up an Excel sheet on my computer so I could easily organize by title, date I read it, and author. Once I got on GR, I started to be more consistent about doing written reviews so I could remember more about each book. And I do utilize the various bookshelves- I find them really helpful. So... don't I sound over-the-top OCD?? Beware, JAFF readers! This is what this obsession can do to you!!
Debbie, you were more honest than I was. I too had notebooks in ABC order, with the author, title, and I even when so far as to listing the star ratings at the time. And... I may even have a few computer files... somewhere... on certain authors that I was enjoying at the time. I kept repeating myself as I looked at books. After buying a book that I had sworn to not buy...I created the system to let me know what I had previously looked at and what I thought about them. Oh well, some things just have to be organized, because I lose things in plain sight.
I have two systems: I do reviews for published books. For unpublished that I can review on Goodreads I copy and paste that review in a separate folders as I heard that there are times unpublished book reviews disappear or are taken down. Then for those which are not allowed to be reviewed on Goodreads I write a synopsis, which has spoilers but then at least for me I can "remember" what the story is about and not reread it. I also have a list with the author, the stars I gave the book and an indication of if I didn't yet post a reviews (older paperbacks mostly). The list does indicate if my copy is a paperback or kindle copy.

Yay, love seeing the extra books finished by Sheila and Jeanne.
Oh, and I am definitely one of the OCD crowd for organizing my reading.
Thanks, Debbie for sharing about our chat.
Have a great weekend, all! :)

It was an enjoyable read nothing spectacular, nothing horrible"
I was looking at the description and reviews of that one yesterday and decided to pass. While the ratings are OK, the only written reviews make it sound pretty "meh." Your comment just sealed it for me.
Congrats on adding another "Read" book to your shelf, though!
