J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Well Lenora, it is just the way it was back then. Due to mother's early foray into marriage, I was not allowed to even think about dating until I was 16. The ground rules were set and were firm. She didn't have a change to finish school... and wanted to make sure I did,. Bless her heart.

Mary | 452 comments I thought the first article very interesting and quite thought provoking,Teresa. I agree with the author when they days that Jane, the dutiful daughter accepted the marriage proposal, but Jane, the aspiring writer rejected him.

Also agree with the person who stated that Cassandra didn't colour literary vandalism by destroying Jane's letters, she did what she thought her beloved sister would want. She shielded her reputation from the public and their all seeing eyes, something that today, more than ever,we should understand.
Thanks Teresa for posting the link.

Barb (barblibrarian1) Sick in bed in a hotel in Bochnia Poland this weekend. But, getting a chance to read! Next book is number 101. I will make it to Mr Bennet this year. But now, Pemberley Library? You authors better keep writing...

message 2213: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments Oh, so sorry to hear you are sick and in a hotel! How awful...one needs the comforts of home if one is sick. Hope you get better very quickly. Enjoy your book....101 books is Mr. Bennet so sounds like you have that for sure. And I don't think you have any problem with more books to read...I don't know of anyone who is able to keep up with the production of books being published in this genre.

Mary | 452 comments Being sick, like Sheila said,is bad enough when you're in the comfort of your own home, but being away,in a strange hotel must make it so much worse. Hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself,Barb. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Debbie (dmbrown) | 849 comments Just checking in here. I managed to do a bunch of reading over the past 4 days or so, but no opportunities to write reviews so I'm way behind! I hope to catch up today, but the problem with reading so quickly and moving from one book immediately to another is forgetting details about the individual stories! My reading was interspersed with rehearsals and music performances-- I had two concerts with the classical choir I belong to and a show with my doo-wop group over the weekend. I have a day of R&R today, but tomorrow I head to Charleston for "gramma duty!" (Not that I would EVER complain about THAT!)

message 2226: by J. W. (new)

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 623 comments Woohoo on the grandma duty...what a blessing that will feel like after the whirlwind you have endured. Take your time and we will enjoy your reviews when... when you have time. No rush Debbie, baby comes first. Enjoy!!!

message 2227: by Mary (new)

Mary | 452 comments Debbie, enjoy every second on gramma duty!! Savour every gurgle, burp and smile-real or imagined!!

I know what you mean about forgetting details when reading so quickly. I use my kindle app on my PC a lot b/c it allows me to copy and then paste into a document so I have notes and names to use for a review.

Enjoy that grandson...as they say "turn around and they're grown".

message 2229: by Barb (new)

Barb (barblibrarian1) I hit number 101 with Love Letters from Mr Darcy. Thank you all for your well wishes. I am feeling better but still recovering, only now in Krakow. My presentations at the 12 schools are now complete so I can relax and enjoy a few more days in Poland before heading to London. Have a great week everyone!

message 2230: by Barb (new)

Barb (barblibrarian1) Debbie, have fun with the grand baby. I am not doing reviews while in Poland and no way could I remember enough to write when I get home, so I completely understand.

Please take care and don't overdo it. But, then, I also hope you can enjoy the rest of your trip.

Lenora Robinson | 173 comments Ceri wrote: "'Lizzy's Novel' sounds a little like 'Sylvester' by Georgette Heyer crossed with P&P, I wonder how similar it is."

It was more of Lizzy was Jane Austen and her novel was more along pride and prejudice.

181 Mr. Darcy's Christmas Carol

This was a cute remake of dickens and very well done

Eliza Baum (elizabaum) | 176 comments I've worked my way into some amazon gift cards through a rewards program at work, and I've decided there would be no better way to use it than to treat myself to some books that aren't available through KU. Any particular recommendations? I'm going to have to comb through my list and find the expensive ones I've been avoiding! :-)

message 2236: by Sheila (new)

Sheila Majczan (sheilalmajczan) | 700 comments All I would say is that if there is someone whose reviews you have liked and then the books did in fact rate high with you then trust that person's selections and go through their list of books and pull out the one's they rated the highest.

Oh, good plan! I started going through my list and pulling out any that were not KU...and that list was rather larger than the amount of gift card I have, haha! Your way sounds much more reasonable for narrowing it down...though probably also large, considering how many some of you ladies around here have read. :-)

Nicole Barton Sasser (bartonsasser) | 134 comments Nicole's 2016 Austenesque Lovers YTD Challenge Tracker: Continued...

59. The Many Lives of Fitzwilliam Darcy - 4 Stars ☆☆☆☆
The Many Lives of Fitzwilliam Darcy begins with four chapters of events occurring within Pride and Prejudice, but from Mr. Darcy’s point-of-view. If I was editing this, I would recommend they be condensed into one chapter to introduce and set the timeline. Readers would not be reading this variation if not lovingly familiar with the original classic. Due to this, I was worried throughout the beginning. Chapter 5 is where things really start and become interesting after the disastrous proposal at Hunsford.

As the day repeats, we are witness to Mr. Darcy’s transformation…
beginning by feeling blessed that he could correct his errors and move on with the knowledge of Elizabeth’s true feelings, to fleeing, to feeling the futility of it all and trying to change as much as possible to see how it affects the outcome, to even passing the time pulling pranks on his relations in something close to madness.

It is an enjoyable journey all the way to Mr. Darcy affecting the needed change and our beloved couple coming together. This variation is unique and a worthy read for all Pride and Prejudice lovers.
