Mr. Bennet's Library 101+ Books
Biscuits, cucumber sandwiches.....Mrs Reynolds has been informed to spare no expense. We are her master's particular friends, after all!!!
I know Caroline thinks of herself as one but I do hope no one mentioned this gathering to her as she will crash the party I am sure or show up on Charles' arm!
Sounds delicious, don't forget the cold meets, cheeses and breads. I'm starved. I suppose they only serve white soup at balls, so we shouldn't expect that or even negus.
Yes, caroline will try to horn in and I am sure she has yet to finish that book she has been carrying around for ages. It is beginning to become rather threadbare due to her mishandling of it. Poor thing. A book deserves better treatment that she has given it.
A well worn book in Caroline's hands is purely there for ornamental reasons,as to think that she has actually read it is asking too much of such a lady. Although, speaking of worn books,I must admit that my first copy of P&P which I studied for state exams, many moons ago,is in rather a tattered state. Paragraphs have been underlined, there are scribblings in the margins yet,I wouldn't change it for the world! If that book could talk.......!!
Indeed, Mary...she would love to know that a beloved book of hers was loved to death. What a fitting end to a much read book.
Lenora wrote: "165 Mr. Darcy Makes Advances 4 stars"Ah, Lenora! You've joined the ranks of those of us who enjoyed that book as a guilty pleasure. Trashy fun!
Mary wrote: "Although, speaking of worn books,I must adm..."That is SO cool, Mary! I wish I had the original copy of P&P that I read, which was several decades ago, long before Darcy-mania started. I knew it was a classic "romance of manners" but had no idea what the story was about, so the various plot turns took me completely by surprise. I think the only filmed version then was the one with Greer Garson and Lawrence Olivier, which I still have yet to see in its entirety.
Love Lessons by Juliecoop http://meryton.com/aha/index.php?show... Nicole, are we allowed to post reviews on this one? I am just starting to read it but it is about 500 pages so it will be a couple of days before I am done. It is a modern take-off of P&P.

I found a DVD of that in a dollar store. The actors/actresses are too old for the parts and the costumes are left overs from Gone With The Wind. And the ending is just a wee bite twisted. But it is interesting enough.
My daughter has one of those over used old school battered copies of P&P. She collects different editions of the novel but whenever she reads it yes it's the old battered one that's pulled out. And I think ye've all been at the Ratafia already guys, reading the conversations here tonight :):)
Thank you for your comment,Debbie.I'd no idea at the time what exactly I was reading, how important it was or how much I would grow to love it. It has two actors' pictures on the cover and,to this day,I've no idea who they are!! Sometimes,it's kinda sweet to keep old 'stuff',sentimental and sweet.
Of all the books that I've on my shelf at the moment,in the event of a fire,I freely admit that I'd save that copy of P&P and my copy of N&S!
Teresa-love that fact that it's the old, bartered copy she returns to when in the need the a JA fix! As for the 'other' conversation, sometimes you just gotta laugh! And tonight,I found myself laughing out loud....yes,people think I'm nuts, but I like to think I'm in good company!!!
We need a good laugh now and then and lately I find myself turning to my buddies here to provide it. Sometimes life can really get to you!!
Know exactly what you mean,Teresa!! Although the laugh tonight was totally accidental, which kinda makes it all the more precious!! We're not hurting anyone,it's all very innocent and gives us all a lift!! A win-win situation,in my books!!
Right back at you!Am signing out for the night,it's 12:08am and I've that pesky thing called work in the morning!!!
Sheila wrote: "So you're located in GB?"Mary's an Irish lass, Sheila!
And I jumped onto GR too late to participate in the earlier insanity. I only know that this usually peaceful, orderly library looks like a college frat party just broke up! What a mess!!
Oh, I probably would have jumped in and played along, as I suspect you already know. Samuel is absolutely adorable and charming, of course! Thank you for asking. Our big concern right now is this stupid hurricane. Current models have Matthew pointed our way, arriving this weekend. We're starting to make tentative plans to go inland a ways if the forecast remains alarming as it moves north.
Ladies,if the 'earlier insanity' as ye called it can indeed be termed 'insanity',I'll take it over sanity any day!!!! Gotta laugh!! Please take care if there are adverse weather conditions in yer area. Climb a tree, hide in a cave or move inland,do whatever's necessary........this place wouldn't be the same without ye!!!
Good morning everyone. I would like to add my caveat also regarding Matthew hitting the east coast. Exercise caution my friends. Safety first always. We will be thinking about you.

NO - Juliecoop has personally requested her stuff be removed from GR, cannot add to GR. Sorry. I LOVE her stuff!
Fortunately, I'm still on very good terms with my brother's ex-wife (still don't know why he divorced her!!), who lives about 3 hours inland in NC. That's where we're headed if the hurricane gets too close for comfort. Even though we're NOT directly on the beach, (we're about 10 minutes away) we saw enough flooding in this area a year ago to know our single access road to civilization will be underwater for a while and we'd rather not deal with that again!

OK, I will still read it and just make a remark about how well I liked it so as to recommend or not to others. Thanks for getting back to me on this.

Sheila-- I tried the link for the book Love Lessons but it comes up that I am not autherized to see it. I do have an acct with that web sight so I don't know what happened
I second what everyone has said. You on the east coast... we are praying for you and ask that you be safe.
Sheila wrote: "I am sure there will be biscuits and cucumber sandwiches amongst the tea tray assortment!"Now I'm hungry. :-)
Eliza, I am sure there will be plenty to go around. Mary has made sure there are plenty of refreshments. Sheila has checked the buffet, as you saw her list of finger foods... sounds like we are good to go.
Mrs Reynolds has assured me that all will be in a state of readiness........when is it any other way?? The sleeping quarters in the West wing will be aired sufficiently, the festive decorations all dusted abs placed just so as per the great man's orders! All we can do is wait on eager anticipation!!!!

This relieves me that you have a plan. I was thinking of you when I was watching the news last night.
and the rest of you, good grief, I laughed so hard I got a stitch in my side. ;)

Many save into own docs to read with location noted instead of staying on the actual site. Probably where she pulled the link from.
That's exactly what I do ...plus I write a synopsis for myself so I can remember what the story is about for future references. I have to copy and paste online stories into documents as the font is too small for me to read. Saves eye strain.

I simply think you'll put him in mind of a country miss,a delightful minx that hailed, many moons ago from the depths of Hertfordshire.
She is extremely direct, very intelligent and over the past while, has come to be found more than tolerable by a certain Derbyshire gent.
I think he'll think you delightful!!
