Mr. Bennet's Library 101+ Books
'Strange noises',Jeanne??? Goodness gracious me!! I won't even go there!!!
Glad you're back on home turf again with all technological issues resolved!
J. W. wrote: "In all, it was quiet and I always did like the library...just not the computer section."I totally agree! I went to the physical library yesterday for the first time in ages (to get one of those random books that isn't on kindle), and sometimes the riffraff around the computer section is a little scary. The stacks are quiet and peaceful. :-)
Yippeeee! I'm a grandmother! Our new grandson arrived yesterday afternoon! Briefly met him last night, and we'll be headed back to the hospital in a little bit. No name yet- my son and his wife wanted to gauge his personity a little before making a final decision, and the little guy was too tuckered out from the stress of being born yesterday to do much beside sleep. Made my heart swell to watch my son bonding with his first child.
OH, I am in tears of joy for you and your family. How delightful!!!! You must give us all the details when you find time...weight, length, etc. I hope the labor and delivery went as well as such events can be hoped to go. Congratulations! What name did you elect to be called? Nana, Grams, Grandma, Granny or Even Mimi?
Debbie wrote: "Great seeing Lenora and Nicole adding to your totals. Was that a bit of sarcasm regarding Caroline's fate, Lenora? ;)"yes it was but it was perfect
Debbie-heartiest congrats to the new parents and both sets of grandparents!!! What fantastic news!!!
147 Lady Anne and Lady Catherine: A Prequel to Pride and Prejudicecould not get into this book maybe i will try it again later to see if I can finish it

Water broke and contractions started around 1:30 am, and they got to the hospital around 3:30 am. Kurt and I were alerted about what was going on via texts @ 6:45 am. We got to the hospital around 10 am and took 2 cars because I was supposed to be performing last night, but our son said his wife was progressing quickly and the OB said the baby could arrive before noon. We planned that I'd just head back home around 2 or 3 and have plenty of time to get ready and get to the nightclub. Things didn't work out quite that way, though.
Happily, I got a call from the group leader around noon that our gig was cancelled. Thank You, Lord!! Our daughter-in-law wasn't fully dilated and ready to push until 1:30. After another 4 hours, baby boy Brown was finally born at 4:57 pm. 8 lbs 5 oz, 21 inches.
I've decided I like the idea of being called Gramma, and Kurt will be Grammpa.
Last night was interesting. Our baby's maternal grandmother needed to be met at the airport (her arrival had been previously scheduled based on the due date, which was tomorrow). Meanwhile, I needed to go to the store for toiletries and clean clothes, since I hadn't expected to be staying overnight.
Everyone slept very well last night after a looooong day yesterday, and Kurt and I got to the hospital early this afternoon and spent a couple of hours with our new grandson and his parents. LOVE that sweet newborn baby smell! And our kids are already wonderful parents. Discharge is expected tomorrow, by which time they have to make a decision about what the little man's name is.
And that's the story!

So happy and excited for you, Gramma. What a mad and wonderful experience.
So happy and excited for you, Gramma. What a mad and wonderful experience.
Oh, so glad you were willing to share. Best of wishes to all. God did take care in cancelling your gig.
And why not?!! I'd love grand-children. Unfortunately it doesn't look like it's going to happen. None of my three have any interest whatsoever. Enjoy Debbie!! Or should I say Gramma :):)
Oh, Teresa, you should take Sheila's suggestion and ask friends to "share" their grandkids with you!
We are informed he is NOT to be referred to as "Sammy" or "Sam." He's Samuel. Period. Ok, kids. Got it!
Samuel is a lovely name. I wonder if they'll end up shortening it? I guess only time will tell, but at least you've been warned not to do it so you won't inadvertently upset them!
They can try all they want to keep it to Samuel, but the world has its own ideas. I tried for years to get people to call me Barbara. I would introduce myself as Barbara and people would turn around and say "nice to meet you Barb"! LOL But, I love the name Samuel and all its derivations. Congrats again, Debbie!
It was going to be Harrison (again, NOT to be called "Harry!"), Corbin or Samuel. I'm glad they chose Samuel! And Barbara, I try to be sensitive to how people wish to be addressed and assumed you prefer Barb based on your GR moniker. Henceforth, you shall be Barbara!
Funny story about names in my family: I'm Debbie, and my brothers were/are Ricky, Bobby, and Johnny. When I was pregnant and Kurt and I were discussing names, I was adamant that it be something that wouldn't be nicknamed with an "i or "y" at the end! I spent years resenting being "Debbie" because it always sounded like a perpetual high school cheerleader, and "Deborah" was even worse because it sounds to me like a snooty old dowager. I didn't think either really fit my personality. Now that I'm in my 60s, I kinda like the idea of being perceived as a perpetual cheerleader!
When my mother went to sign up for her social security they had to apply for a copy of her birth certificate from the 30's. They could not find it under her name. After a long search they found it as 'unnamed female'. There had been a snafu at the hospital. My mother hated her first name Donnie and realized she had a chance to rename herself if she chose. An avid reader, she had lusted after all the glorious names of female characters and when she tried to choose one...froze. So she huffed soundly and decided on Donna. She was known as her middle name anyway and no one ever knew her first name. Those who attempted to address her by her first name was promptly ignored. So she didn't like the -ie either.
Well, I have a story to beat all...My father married my mother in MS where the Army Air Force had him stationed before he was shipped out to England for 4 years. He met an Irish lass named Sheila O'Dara and wrote my mother wanting a divorce. She refused. He comes home. I am born 9 months later and you can see I was named after that Irish lass. I didn't learn this until my late teens. Should I hate my name? Sheila O'Dara Lambert
My mother has younger sisters and my grandmother named all of them. The last one was born after a bit of an age gap and my grandmother said that my grandfather could name the baby. He chose Linda, which happened to be the name of a pretty young woman who lived in the same street. My nana went to register the baby and came home and said to him that she'd called the baby Susan because she didn't like Linda!I hate a popular shortening of my daughter's name. She is called Isabel which we shorten to Belle because I can't bear the shortening of Izzy. I have corrected people a few times over the years and she does it herself now. It was always a risk that she would like Izzy though, and ask to be called that. So far I've dodged that bullet :)
Sheila wrote: "Well, I have a story to beat all...My father married my mother in MS where the Army Air Force had him stationed before he was shipped out to England for 4 years. Woooh! Sheila, that is a story for sure. Someone will have to remind me if I am incorrect...in the movie Becoming Jane...didn't Jane's former love interest name his daughter Jane?
You guys have some awesome name stories! Mine is pretty tame, in that Eliza isn't what I actually go by in the "real world," but it's what I always wanted to be called (middle name is Elizabeth). I figured I could be called anything I wanted on the internet and went for it! :-)Samuel Michael is a great name, Debbie! Very classy and classic.

Yes, good work on both parts, J. W. & Nicole. Debbie, hope all continues to go well with your grandson and his family.
I'm getting text photos from my son once or twice every day with pics of the baby. One of them yesterday was comparing the size of Evan's giant right foot to Samuel's itty bitty right foot. Just the two feet! We'll see them on Monday, but I'm also looking forward to using Skype to keep up with Samuel's progress. We experimented with it once a couple of months ago in anticipation of his arrival, so we need to get it fired up and remember how to use it!
I did get some reading in this week. (I was in the hospital waiting room for 7 hours before Samuel was born!!!) All really good, and all the 5-star ones are reasonably short.186. The Mistress of Longbourn - 3.5 stars

I did get my computer back. I was at the library killing time before the appointment to pick it up. I didn't want to drive all the way home only to turn around and drive back again. I took my NOOK and finished reading Last Dance. I can now type my review.
In all, it was quiet and I always did like the library...just not the computer section. Just a little scary, I won't even talk about the guy on the other side of me making strange sounds. No...I can't discuss that.
