message 203: by Jagadeeshwari (new)

Jagadeeshwari (njaga27423) Hello friends !! I'm jai from Chennai .I'm a senior in high school and I noticed everyone of u in this group are older than me so far.......I feel miserable :'( :'( . And I don't have many friends (@ all) I found that books are the best friends ever at the age of 8.since then my favorite books have changed but not my favorite genres . They are fiction ,fantasy, thriller ,horror ,sci_fi,supernatural ,paranormal -romance ,historic fiction ,etc. Any book which contains vampires ,werewolf ,ghost, fairy ,mermaids, gods and goddess reincarnation ,sirens......... .anything I will love it . My favorite series are
1) Abandon.
2) Mediator .
3)Vampire Academy
4) Bloodlines
5) Twilight
6) Host
7) House of Night
8) Divergent
9) Goddess Awakening
10) Hunger games
11) Revenant
12) Sookie stackhouse
13) Descent
14) Mortal Instruments
15) Vampire diaries
16) Morganville vampires
17) Immortals
18) Vampire journals
19) Avalon High
20) Angelbound
........................ .........etc etc etc. .......
And I love books with a kick-ass heroine .I don't like the idea of always a princess waiting for a prince to b rescued .I want something different from "damsel in distress " and "Knight in shining armour "I love when a girl fights and protect herself.I love books with strong ,female protagonist . And I totally adore Rose Hathaway from VA for her reckless personality . I like animals other than books . Nothing is better than a rainy day with a favorite book ,a comfortable place, a hot cup of coffee, a "do not disturb" sign on my bedroom door and a cute cuddling cat or dog on your lap to pet occasionally and hug at happy or sad situations in my book .hmmmmp..............now that is life ;):) Don't u guys agree???????!

message 204: by Utsav (new)

Utsav Sinha (uutsav) | 2 comments Hi all !

Just joined my first Goodreads group to see what they are ! I'm a final year engineering student and doing a couple of english courses have rekindled my love for reading.

I like mystery, drama, horror (though I haven't read any :P ) and some classics too. Non fiction is not my cup of coffee right now !

message 205: by Jarvis (new)

Jarvis @Jai, welcome to the group. Your idea is so similar to mine in case of reading book. A rainy day and a cozy bed with a dog. Am not a cat person, I also think those little kittens are plotting against the human race O.O
Oh and you aren't the youngest here, I am younger than you 8-)

@Utsav, welcome to the group! Don't know about the other genres but you will surely get many recommendations for Classics in this group! :D

Sree | 174 comments Hi all. I am Sree. I am an Indian high school student. I started reading young adult books and for a few years my choice of books were restricted to this genre. Now, after joining good reads, I got inspired by you all to explore new genres and I am quite sure this group will guide me in the path
Love all.

message 209: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Sree and Michael :)

@Sree- I hope you'll have a good time here:)

@Michael- Thanks for joining us. We have a different folder for promotion and stuff like that. Please use that instead of posting about your book here and there :)
And best wishes for your book:)

message 210: by Dawson (new)

Dawson Hughes (dhughes23) | 4 comments Hey Everyone! My name is Dawson and I am 16 years old. I know, much younger than many people that love to read.

Anyway, I've just begun on my journey of reading not to long ago. I mean I use to find no point in reading books, but now i'll have to say that it is one of my favorite things to do.

I'm a bit undecided of what I want to do with my life right now. I've been researching cultural anthropology for a bit now and it may be something to look forward to in my near future as I love learning about people and their cultures. ...however, as of now I do dabble in programming...and I also want to improve my photography skills. I love writing, I feel as if I can put things into a deeper meaning through words rather than speaking, I don't know...I'm a bit introverted with how I perceive and think about things but I also have an outgoing personality that many extroverts have.

I believe that my new found love for books came about from the enthusiasm in teaching of classics from my English teacher. He really opened up how I thought about things and about how so many stories have such deeper meanings.

I mainly enjoy non-fiction books because I feel as if what you learn from them can be better applied to the real world rather than what you'd learn reading fiction. Don't get me wrong though, I love mostly any book that captures my attention even if it is fiction. I also love learning about the philosophical teachings of philosophers such as Plato...which was one of the figures my teacher brought forth to us to read about. Mainly his famous Allegory of The Cave, which was so interesting that I went and bought the whole Novel containing it, which is known as The Republic.

Some other hobbies of mine include playing video games, binge watching Netflix series, learning guitar, music, and going outside to explore.

I am someone that wants to travel the world...I strive for bigger and better experiences and I want to also be a part of bigger and better things. I've set my goals high and I'll do whatever it takes to achieve them.

If you read this, thank you...I appreciate it a lot

I am usually called a nice person by the people who do know me, so if anyone needs anything feel free to contact me, I love interacting with others :)

Dr. Abin | 159 comments Hi everyone,
Let me introduce myself. I'm Abin, working as a dental Professional, residing in the state of Kerala. People around me are aware of the fact that I've been into the world of reading since a long time, and were nodding there heads in approval. But, recently, when I took into my head to create a work by myself and completed it within an year, everyone became sceptical. They asked with knitting brows, 'What? You wrote a fiction!!! What was that made you write? Why are you into a field that you were not bred to?.....' Like the questionnaire goes on....Usually medical professionals are expected to talk only about Anatomy, Pathology, Physiology, effects of chemicals on immune system, whether alcohol is good or bad for the body, about loosening of teeth, how can a centenarian smile with glitter....and so on. But, amidst the drudgery of my profession, I weave hours for my passion -reading. Speaking about the aftermath of my literary work - TATTERED LOTUS, everything went bizarre; my buddies who were free to talk about anything under or above the sky are hiding from me, on the fear that I'd talk about my work. They say in unison, ' Buddy, You read whatever other great people have written. Heaven sake, don't create a work by yourself...' That's my first experience as an author. Sorry for the prolixity; I apologize for gnawing your precious time.
Thankyou,
Dr Abin.
