Ella Olsen (ellajoy) | 4 comments Hi all! My name is Ella Joy Olsen (but you can call me Ella). I'm a reader and a writer. My debut novel is called Root, Petal, Thorn with a pub date of September 2016. I'm also a reader! The written word is where I find my joy (aside from it also being part of my name).

My favorite reads come from Literary Fiction, Historical Fiction, Memoir & Women's Fiction (book club). Here is a list of my favorite books over time. I posted this list a year ago on FB and it's actually a fun game (instructions included). Excited to get to know all of you!

The rules: List fifteen authors, including poets and playwrights, who have influenced you and will always stick with you. Do this in no more than fifteen minutes.

Here are 15+ in chronological order:

Ellen Raskin – Westing Game
Benedict & Nancy Freedman - Mrs. Mike
Lucy Maude Mongomery - Anne of Green Gables
V.C. Andrews - Children in the Attic (no judging)
Stephen King - It, Stand, Cujo, Salem’s Lot (my whole childhood)
Jean M. Auel – Clan of the Cave Bear
Ernest Hemmingway – For Whom the Bell Tolls
William Golding - Lord of the Flies
Upton Sinclair – The Jungle
John Irving - Prayer to Owen Meany
Mary Shelley – Frankenstein (proving that classics are fun)
JK Rowling – (of course)
Yann Martel - Life of Pie
Sue Monk Kidd – Traveling Pomegranates (inspired me to write – plus trip to Greece with my mom)
Diana Gabaldon – Outlander
Alexandra Fuller – Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight (and others) – a writer who didn’t give up
Laura Hillenbrand – Seabiscuit, Unbroken (personally inspiring)

Mayank Jain | 42 comments Asslam-o-alaikum !! Namaste !!

Hello, this is Mayank jain from m.p. india....

I don't know what should i say but the most important thing i wanna say, is i'm completely differ from this community or from all the members of Goodreads b'coz i don't like to read books ...huh yeah that's true ...but now i'm starting to grow my reading habbits....

by the way i'm not much interested in studying, so i'm not being an engineer or doctor etc which other people are doing in this group..

Khair, i love to do drama...I'm in indian people's theatre association(ipta)...

I also love to read urdu hindi poetry and sometime i write couplets too..

Thank you Arpit jain...perhaps i think u can make me a book-worm....hehe...

And sorry to all for an uninteresting type of intro...lol

Finally i wanna ask a question ,only english can be used here....??

message 182: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome buddy:)
Yep, with the help of other wonderful members, you will soon find yourself as a bookworm!! And we won't do anything; it's just natural:P:P

Regarding the final question: Well, since Goodreads is a large international community of book-lovers, members are requested to use a language everyone can understand. Guess that's English, so if you want to share your thoughts with everyone, then use English....but if you are talking to a particular person, then there's no such - official and unofficial- rule. You can use any language until your buddy understands it. Even a secrete language will do if your buddy knows how to read it:P

Hope it will clear your doubts. And once again, welcome, boy!

message 183: by Jarvis (new)

Jarvis Welcome to the group, Mayank :D
And yes, what Arpit said. We will definitely turn you into a bookworm B-)

message 195: by Jalyna (new)

Jalyna Rose (jlynn93) Hello. My name is Jessica. I'm from Texas. I work as a writer; Not published yet, but hoping to be very soon. I fell in love with reading when I was very young. My mother and I had a tradition where we would go to the library every weekend and get a book. I would then read those books to my mom. I loved those trips and I miss them a lot. Since my mother passed away in 2009, reading for me has been a challenge. I'm wanting so much to get back into reading, hope that being in a reading group will help.

What I like to read: I read a lot of Fantasy, Romance, and horror. However, I also like historical fiction and some YA. I love making new friends and talking about books, writing, and life.

Tadalisika,BOTM stands for Book Of The Month! We all will get a chance to nominate one book each in.the BOTM thread for the particular month. We can second a nominated book too...Then the books which got most voted will be out in a poll.. The book which wins the poll will be the Book Of The Month!

It is like,a common discussion platform for readers,on one book which WE choose!

Book Of The Month.
Every month, we (member) choose a book by voting and read it together. We discuss its writing, characters, positive points, negative points etc.

Also we do lots of spamming:P Actually, spamming helps us to know each other.

Do participate in it. You'll have fun, and you'll make lots of new friends.

Vote for May BOTM: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/1...
