You don't have to share the shelves... just the books on them. ;)

message 1005: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Sharing books is okay...as long as you don't require me to walk around with them in plastic and handle them with gloves. :P

message 1006: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 506 comments I'm mainly ebooking it at the moment so no need to get bookshelves for me! I will however sneakily borrow books though :)

Jackie (thenightowl) I was defending Dawn!!

Or I thought I was until the homeless lady pointed at me and said "No, I'm talking to you, BITCH!". And that's when I really snapped. *twitch*

message 1019: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments LOL, that's not how I remember it... But we can go with that :D

message 1020: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes Chris hasn't even moved in and he's already got to think about how to get rid of the guests.

Congrats Chris. Sending you some good home karma.

message 1021: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Pfft, Chris doesn't want to get rid of us (that's right, I just moved in as well). Chris lovesssssssss us. And I'm an awesome cook, so just saying... If anyone is going, it's not me!

message 1022: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Congrats Chris! You'll be so happy - home ownership is the greatest!

message 1023: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes I'm pretty mean in the kitchen. I'll put my tortilla soup, fish tacos and red rice up against any meal.

message 1024: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 506 comments Hm ok I'm not very good at cooking... or housework in general really... But surely every household should have a loony norwegian so I think I'm staying too! :)

Jackie, Dawn, and I met in NYC for A Dance With Dragons GRRM signing.

And Jackie and I have hung out a couple other times as well for various other Bookish Events of Awesomeness.

message 1030: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 506 comments Cool, sounds fun! :)
I don't think I've ever been to an event like that, not much of that sort of thing where I live :(
I'm guessing you're all from the U.S then? :)

message 1031: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Yep, Jackie and I both live relatively close to NY, so it makes it easy to go to events that are there. We're going to BookCon at the end of May there. :D

message 1032: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I'm from MI, but I had enough frequent flier miles saved up to take a free flight over to NY to meet Becky and Jackie. It was a fun trip! I still think about that Margherita pizza very fondly.

And GRRM too of course. Always GRRM.... He's still totally in love with me. I know it.

message 1033: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes Well, my library has a pretty cool event this weekend with some writers. Gail Bowen and Yann Martel will be there talking about their books as far as names I know. Otherwise, this place is a hinterland for anything like book events.

message 1034: by Luke (new)

Luke | 333 comments Yeah, it's usually pretty dead near me unless I want to drive to Chicago. I did get to see Sanderson in Dayton though, that was AWESOME!

message 1035: by Mike (the Paladin) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Wow I go away and so much happens...okay. You can borrow my books but you have to use the disposable reading gloves I supply and you can't take them any further than the reading room...we have to have a reading room Chris.

message 1036: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) He is awesome. So down to earth, and he goes out of his way to make sure that his fans are happy. He's great.

Of course, I had to embarrass myself in front of him (as I knew I would) by telling him that his books are on my Leg-hump_worthy shelf. LOL I got a card with access to online goodies from it though, which was cool. :)

'Go away'? Who said you were allowed to leave? I've been sitting here for days now... I didn't realize that there was an option to leave...

Oh and we definitely need a reading room with lots of comfy chairs! :)

message 1038: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments No one comes to my area.. I've driven to Petosky to see Patrick Rothfuss and Ernest Cline, that's about 6 hours. I've been to NY to GRRM (2 hour flight). Dayton to meet Brandon Sanderson Harriet (Robert Jordan's wife).. I also went Indianapolis for something called Gencon.. Met lots of people there. Scott Lynch, Sanderson again, James Dashner, Rothfuss again (several times, he was all over that place), Larry Correia (only saw him at a distance), some guy qho writes Forgotten Realm books whose name I don't remember, lots of other people who I don't remember... Gencon was AWESOME.

message 1039: by Laurel (new)

Laurel I've never actually tried a hammock. May we put one in the back yard for people to read in? Books and sunshine!!!

message 1040: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments MrsJ - always meant to mention, Mercedes Lackey was at gencon. Didn't have time to meet her though, her reading and signing didn't fit into my schedule. Overlap with intro to LARPing I think, lol.

message 1041: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 506 comments I don't think I'll ever have chance to meet any of my favorite authors :(
I'm just happy that now, because of the Kindle, its a lot easier for me to get hold of books I like as I don't have to try to order them or wait for them to be translated and come to the bookshops here of whatever. There are so many books that I'm sure I would never have had the chance to read otherwise!

I should have paid more attention when I was living in England, maybe I could have gone to London to some events :) Never occurred to me at the time though..
