I love John Green's books, however I disliked "Looking for Alaska."

I hate to say it, but Nicholas Spark's books. Love the stories in the movie adaptations, but I cannot get drawn in when reading it. It's so odd, to me.
The Maze Runner series. God awful. Poorly written, weak plot, ridiculous dialogue, and terrible ending. How they decided to make those into movies is beyond me. However, I bet the movies are better. I feel the same way about Nicholas Sparks books - they are so feeble and poorly written, but some of the movies turn out well.
Unravel me was just a big NO for me :/ shatter me had potential but Unravel Me was just the female protagonist whining about EVERYTHING! Drove me nuts honestly
Andrea wrote: "Unravel me was just a big NO for me :/ shatter me had potential but Unravel Me was just the female protagonist whining about EVERYTHING! Drove me nuts honestly"It does get a bit annoying, but Ignite Me is actually so much better; Juliette really improves.
Kylie wrote: "I really didn't like Matched by Ally Condie. The cover said it was the hottest dystopian since The Hunger Games. Ha no."I agree! It wasn't bad so much as... boring. Dull. Cardboardy.
I didn't like this book. Divergent and Insurgent were varying levels of OK, but Allegiant just threw out a whole lot of random material that was totally out of place with the rest of the storyline. And the ending? I still rant about it all these years since I read it.
The worst thing is how long I waited for it. I didn't want to buy it, since I didn't want to waste money on a book I wasn't sure I'd like, so I tried to check it out from the library. Except all the copies were checked out. So I tried putting it on hold, but the waiting list was literally around 98 people long, more if I remember right. So I waited around for MONTHS and when I got it, I couldn't make heads or tails of it. So disappointing.
I am not a huge fan of the Mortal Instruments series, had to push myself to get through City of Bones and then gave up a little less than half way through the second book. The story was just all over the place and I did not like Clary or Jace. I do still want to give the Clockwork series a chance, when I get through more of my TBRs.I also did not like the Maze Runner series. I just can't seem to get into James Dashner's books. I had no urge to read the rest of the Maze Runner series and I tried to pick up his newest series, read the first page and said, "nope."
@Lauren The movies are better though
Paper Towns by John Green. Too many Red Herrings. I had to do a talk on it for English. It was basically me having an emotional rant of why I hated the book so much, but still I passed!
Shiver, The Fault in our Stars, Paper Towns, Fallen, Tuesdays with Morrie.... They were highly recommended so I had to finish them to see what's the catch but unfortunately, I just could not
One popular book I didn't like was the Eye of Minds, by James Dashner (same guy who wrote The Maze Runner), because the main character had about as much personality as a cardboard cutout.
Amber wrote: "I am not a huge fan of the Mortal Instruments series, had to push myself to get through City of Bones and then gave up a little less than half way through the second book. I absolutely hated the fault in our stars and couldn't get what was so "special" about that book.. it was just boring and pretentious. I don't remember ever hating a book that much
I also think the hunger game's writing was pretty much bleak. it couldn't get any emotions out of me and comparing the writting to divergent I'd say divergent was a better book
We Were Liars is a pretty popular book and many booktubers recommended it so I gave it a try. I borrowed it from the library and honestly couldn't get myself to read past a quarter of the book. I just didn't enjoy it as much as other people had.
Allegiant by Veronica Roth. I already knew the ending before I even read Divergent (loved it) and Insurgent (this is just ok) but the last book bored and disappointed me.
I must admit that The Fault in Our Stars is one of my favorite books. It actually helped me rekindle my love for reading. However, I despised Paper Towns. Ugh. I rated it 2 stars, being generous, but I honestly had to force myself to finish that one.
Cande wrote: "It has to be 50 Shades Of Grey."Oh yeah! I've tried twice and can't get past 75 pages. The constant lip chewing is maddening and I just want to slap her.
My BFF took me to the movie and I thought it was just as bad, then for my birthday she got me the blu-ray. I've not even taken the shrink wrap off it. Just horrible.
The Girl on the Train. Could not even continue reading it! The Princess Bride was also a DNF for me. Great movie, horrible book.
Fallen by Lauren Kate. The house of night series I liked at first, but then the character got too slutty and just no.
Matched series...could not stand the writing.
Gone series.
The knife of never letting go(chaos walking series)
Shiver (boring)
Across the Universe
(just a note: delirium and legend and shatter me series are among my fav, so sad to see them listed here so many times, but people are entitled to their opinions)
Shiver, After series, THE SHATTER ME TRILOGY, LEGEND TRILOGY and the throne of glass series HAHA whoops
After series by Anna Todd. I thought it was an okay fan fiction, It's like reading a younger version of 50 shades of gray.I only read it on wattpad because the One Direction were in it obviously. Though, the writing was no where good enough to get it published into a book. It was like any other One Direction AU fan fiction. In no way am I trying to hate on her, it's just After wasn't a good book in my opinion. Neither where the sequels. The story only became a book because a bunch of fans are strongly attached to the boys and Harry. Plus it's not even Harry anymore. It's Hardin due to copyright reasons.
It has to be hopeless from Coleen Hoover. I know that everyone loved it and a lot of people actually recommended it to me. So maybe I'm biased because I was expecting a lot from it but the whole plot seems unbelievable to me. And after the big reveal, I could not take the book seriously. 50 shades also had to be on my list. I have a lot of things to say about this book and why I don't understand it's popularity but I think it's a debate for another time.

We have almost the same tolerance level as I read only 70 pages.50 Shades is undoubtedly the worst book I have ever tried to read but there are a few more I despise like the Shatter me and Mara Dyer series.I would prefer studying chemistry over those for sure.
The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black. I've seen a lot of people praising it and it has an okay rating on Goodreads but I don't think I could get even 20 pages in. I had loved Holly's series The Spiderwick Chronicles when I was younger, so I was excited at the aspect of a book by her that was targeted at the YA audience. I was so disappointed when the writing, characters, and dialogue were just plain boring. Everything had seemed so promising from the descriptions and reviews I'd read but it was just...boring and a bit cliché from what I read of it.
I have a couple. Allegiant
I forced myself through it because I thought I ought to like it since I loved the first one sooo much.
Everneath
This book was so bad, but i kept forcing myself through hoping it would get better. nope. by the end. I was so mad.. i just cant.
I Am Number Four
I tried so hard to get into this book, i felt absolutely no attachment to the characters. I didnt even finish this one.
Crossed
this book was the worst in the series. i almost gave up on it several times. though i am happy i powered through it.. because i really enjoyed the 3rd book, and i would have been upset if I would have missed out on it.
Vampire Academy
couldnt finish. main character annoyed me.
Breaking Dawn
explanation needed.
Mockingjay
felt uninspired. I knew what was happening, but it felt like she had just thrown too much into the last book. Also.. the ending seemed unrealistic.
Cassandra Clare, City of Glass
I have read several of her books, I have come to the conclusion that this author is not for me.
Fifty Shades of Grey
I felt the main character was childlike.. and it drove me nuts. Christian was the only fascinating part of this book and even then, it pissed me off that he would be interested in someone so dumb.
Beautiful Creatures
just...no.
Speaker for the Dead
...i dont think i've ever hated a book more than this.
Dina wrote: "Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. at the end, I felt like it was pointless and a waste of time."Good Lord, this. I couldn't even finish this horrid book. I don't think I like Rainbow Rowell's stuff, period.
1. The Fault In Our StarsI'm sorry but the whole story made me feel nothing all, and pretty bored. And I questioned the cigarette thing because pretty as the 'put the killing thing between your lips but don't let it kill you' is, it felt so pretentious, as was all the bits where teenagers spurted huge words as if it was normal. As a teen, let me assure you it is not. I've gave up on John Green after that.
2.Fifty Shades of Grey
Make it stop. Never even finished it.
3. Divergent
Never finished it because it was exactly like The Hunger Games.
4. The Unseemly Education of Anne Merchant
Its not all that popular, but please don't read it. By far one of the worst I've ever read. *tears hair out* Main character is judgemental but naturally everyone likes her. Plot is ridiculous in which her goal to be valedictorian is to 'look at things deeper' or (as suggested by her guardian) to become a hoe and seduce everyone. Not kidding you. And have I mentioned the guy grading her was creepy and obviously hoping to get some?
5. Pretty Little Liars
Why is this even popular? I never got it, and the characters came off so annoying.
Omg, there are so many. Most recently is "Uprooted" by Naomi Novik. The whole story was boring. I found the main character annoying too. "Fangirl" is another one that comes to mind.
I really didn't not enjoy The Maze Runner. I loved the movies, but couldn't even get through the first book.
OH wow I could go off on this one. But BELOVED by Corrine Michaels..god awful. WICKED by Jennifer L. Armentrout rolled my eyes every other apge.
and I agree Hopeless by Colleen Hoover, I saw some people said this one and I agree! I as so confused why everyne loved it, I found it cliche and boring. I hated that because I love Hoover
Shatter Me practically every sentence was a simile or metaphor. i could not get through the first chapter
To be honest, I have an issue with John Green. The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns, and Looking for Alaska being the prime suspects of literary failure. I don't know if anyone else noticed, but Paper Towns and Looking for Alaska were practically the same story with only slightly different cheesy outcomes. Either way, a nothing-special-guy falls for the popular, curvy, unique, mysterious girl, loses her, then goes to seek the cause and possibly have her back. But it doesn't work. The Fault in Our Stars was just irritating. The setting was bland, Hazel and Gus's interest in each other made no sense, the way they talked in metaphors and tried to be poetic all the time was entirely unrealistic, etc., etc., etc.
Sasha wrote: "To be honest, I have an issue with John Green. The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns, and Looking for Alaska being the prime suspects of literary failure. But I remember someone quoting John Green talking about how we need diversity in YA books. So I commented with this:
"We need more diversity in YA books." - John Green, intelligent and interesting author of multiple books about intelligent white guys pining for interesting white girls."
I was cussed out, but no one said I was wrong haha.
Fifty Shades of Grey. I was cringing the whole way I thought the second book will be better but nope. Ana is such am idiot it makes me want to bang her head on a table over and over. I don't think I will be picking up the third book I just know why the author made Grey ugh
Tommy wrote: "Sasha wrote: "To be honest, I have an issue with John Green. The Fault in Our Stars, Paper Towns, and Looking for Alaska being the prime suspects of literary failure.
