Agreed Elaine, I've started things over at BL, hanging about here till I finish up my challenges and BL implements a way to sort books on your TBR list like GR has. Then I think I'll be leaving here, but we'll see.

I totally get that Brenda and at the moment nothing of mine has been flagged or removed or even remotely comes close to being targeted, it's more to do with how things were handled, I guess I don't really trust GR with my content anymore.

It's a bit of a shame really.

I'm not going anywhere yet... I want to see how things pan out first, and BL has a bit of a way to go to rival GR. It's a hurry up and wait scenario. :)

In the meantime, I can continue reading indie books and chatting to you all too :)

I agree with Brenda, Lynxie, although I don't know what happened exactly but this group especially is great and most of us here have common interests and are pretty open to people expressing an opinion. I did leave another group a while back because I felt that it was too controlling about the sorts of things people were allowed to say and do and think!!! I figure as long as you're not rude or abusive you're entitled to your opinion. I must also add that I disagree with Brenda...sorry Brenda, you know I love you... but I don't see why you can't criticise or at least disagree with an author if you don't share their views or if you didn't like their book. If you're writing an honest review surely saying what you think, without being rude or abusive should be allowed. It's just another point of view, after all.

The whole issue with GR that Lynxie is talking about is the fact that people ARE abusive and rude, that's what the "getting rid of reviews" is all about. That's what I meant Elaine, sorry I wasn't clearer:)

Well that's fair enough then Brenda. I thought that perhaps they were just being precious about people knocking authors and so forth. I know there are a few self righteous groups here....I'll probably get into trouble for saying that now!!! Maybe I should just MYOB as I don't really know what the actual situation is. Sorry I just get a bit passionate when it comes to voicing an opinion and when I feel people are being suppressed but there's definitely no excuse for abusive and rude behaviour. I would never condone that.

You'll find all the threads about it in the Feedback group Elaine. The main peeve by everyone is that the powers that be haven't announced what they were doing, so it comes across as "wrong"...

message 561: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 2001 comments Michael wrote: "Elaine you can read more about it here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... and at GR feedback group. :)"

Thanks for that Michael. I did have a quick look at the comments and threads. It's not really something I want to get too involved in. I can almost agree with both POV's as it is sometimes difficult to separate an author from their book but of course there's never any excuse to make things personal and for rudeness and name calling. I think I'll butt out now and just enjoy the aspects of this site that aren't controversial or political!!!

I can't Brenda that's the problem. If I say I'm going to do a challenge I have to do the full thing for it count. I do enjoy it I just wish I could be a bit more blase about it. Kathryn | 3569 comments But would it count as not completing the challenge if you said from the outset you were only going to do five or six of the tasks, Elaine? You could pick your favourite six... Kathryn that's actually quite clever and then I wouldn't feel like I failed the challenge!!! The thing is these challenges are so much fun and I love choosing books to fit in. Mind you I usually end up changing them a few times.

message 591: by Kathryn (last edited Oct 14, 2013 03:21PM) (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I often change my books as well, Elaine. In fact I'm just starting a book now that will do quite nicely for my romance read for the Spring Challenge - Major Pettigrew's Last Stand - although it's not my original pick because Lighthouse Bay is still too much in demand. Unfortunately that also means I need another book for my Aussie Author Challenge as I was intending to read Lighthouse Bay for it as well. Oh, the trials and tribulations of keeping up with these challenges!

And you could still pick books for the whole challenge, but then just post the tasks with books that you would aim to complete... Or post all the tasks with books you chose, but pick out the tasks you are electing to complete for the challenge... Just a thought, anyway!
