Lori, so far I'm enjoying My Sister's Keeper. What I like about Picoult's books is that she does get you thinking about issues, ethical and others.

I liked My Sister's Keeper, but it's not my favorite Picoult. Be warned, you might really dislike the mother.
I'm currently reading The Silver On The Tree by Susan Cooper. It's the last in her Dark is Rising sequence. It's fairly decent so far!!
Ahh, I have to read that one! I am thinking I have to go to the used bookstore in my town, gah. I have too many already! What to do what to do!
Fiona wrote: "I'm dumping my previous book and will be starting on the group read - A Gathering Light (as it is for me) by Jennifer Donnelly."Which book are you dropping?
Natalee wrote: "I finished Stargirl on Thursday night and moved on to Wintergirls last night."
Wintergirls is a great book. Yes, it is a hard read, but all the more powerful for it. I also wasn't that crazy about Stargirl. It's good, sure, but I couldn't understand the popularity. Stargirl also would have been totally accepted in my high school, so I find it hard to relate.
Jamie wrote: "I finished a couple of books yesterday - Shadowland & Grimm's Fairy Stories. The former was enjoyable, but I really wasn't a fan of the latter."Shadowland.... Are you going to read the rest of the series? Books 4-6 are AMAZING.
Loving Wintergirls! I have about 75 pages to go. Like you said, Alexis, it's a powerful book. I find myself getting anxious as I read it.

I think I'll eventually read them, but I've got so many books I'm planning on reading soon that it won't be for a while yet. It's good to hear that they get even better, though!
I am currently reading Come Sing, Jimmy Jo by Katherine Paterson. I'm surprised there's so few GR reviews for it. I thought a lot of people read Katherine Paterson.I just finished reading Breaking Rank by Kristen D. Randle. It's a lot like The Outsiders, only with more of a romance subplot. Also it is a very quick read, it only took me about 3 hours to read.
I finished River Secrets last night and will start A Northern Light today. I may finish Anne of Avonlea (audio) later today, too.

That's surprising! I loved Bridge to Terabithia and Jacob Have I Loved growing up. I wonder why more people haven't reviewed that book...
Kathy wrote: "I started the The Lightning Thief yesterday, and it's going to be a good one. "Oh, yay! I'm now on the 4th book of the Percy Jackson series. I can't stop reading them, and I'm normally not interested in continuing series, even when the books are good. These are too fun!
Kandice wrote: "I'm not sure if this is YA, but I'm reading Sabriel"it is YA!!! And I am so excited!!!
About to start reading The Knife of Never Letting Go. I think. I am also debating The Golden Compass. We'll see.
I'm currently reading The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan. I'm only about three chapters in, but I love it so far. This is my first zombie book and the fact that it's YA makes me that much more impatient to get deeper into it.
Has anyone read Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist? Is just saw the movie and was wondering how it compared to the book...
I'm currently reading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (in preparation for the upcoming movie!), but I've also started Bloodhound by Tamora Pierce - I think I should've re-read the previous book in the series beforehand though, as I've forgotten characters, and it has a lot of specialised vocabulary...
Sara wrote: "Has anyone read Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist? Is just saw the movie and was wondering how it compared to the book..."Sara, I've read Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist and loved it. I haven't seen the movie, heard it strayed from the book a lot. If you read the book, let me know so I can watch the movie if you like how they adapted it.
Heather - I'm finishing Anne of Avonlea tonight, which I've really been enjoying, and I also recently started A Northern Light. I'm guessing you'll really enjoy it. It's even better than I'd expected!
Kandice, Sabriel is definitely YA. I loved that book, and the whole series. Let me know what you think.
I've read the whole series thanks to my job. I work in a middle school library and in ILlinois they have this award called Rebecca Caudill awards - kids nominate books and then it is narrowed down to 20 books. The list is posted in the spring and then the kids have to read at least 3 books in order to vote for their favorite. Lightning Thief was on that list this year and actually won state-wide! It was one of my favorites and I bought and read all of the series.
Fiona wrote: "I know, I wonder why we didn't expect it to be as good? I didn't expect it really either. "I think it has to do with the fact that it's a book lover's book. I know that I didn't expect that, at least.
Alisha - I really enjoyed The Forest of Hands and Teeth, and I think you'll like it as an intro to zombie lit. It does have a sequel, which is something I didn't know while reading it.My library finally got Amor and Summer Secrets in yesterday, so I started that. (I'm almost done with Dreamhunter, but I was excited about this one.) It's good so far, and a lot of the descriptions of Puerto Rico and the culture ring true.
I finished 1/2 of the random library book task. It was Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging Confessions of Georgia Nicolson, which was super funny. I was cracking up... She's so nutty. My kind of people!! Anyways I finished that and started Angelmonster which is off to a good start.
April wrote: "I started The Lightning Thief this morning during some down time. I LOVE it so far."April, I loved that series. I still have 1 to go. It's great! Enjoy! :)
I just finished I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak. I loved it. That guy is great! I really liked The Book Thief, and this was just as good. I'm currently working on several books: Night Shift by Stephen King, Mountains of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft, and I'm due to start another YA. Not sure which. I'll decide tonight.
I just finished HP and the Sorcerer's Stone and I'm now working on The Giver by Lois Lowry. I am rereading all the HP books, but in an effort to make it last longer, I think I will intersperse a few books in between. :)LOVING The Giver so far, by the way.

I found out I am more of a pessimist than I thought...
There are two others in the series (Gathering Blue and Messenger). I would suggest reading both. It really brings everything together (though The Giver is great as a stand-alone as well).
I just finished the Lightning Thief and am now beginning Lock And Key by Sarah Dessen. I feel she's a pretty reliable author and will deliever something I will enjoy reading.
I also watched Blood and Chocolate late last night. The movie adaption was about as far from the book as you can be and still say "based on." They took the idea of a teenage girl werewolf and the names of the characters, and then changed pretty much EVERYTHING ELSE: age of characters, location, relationships between characters, etc., etc., etc. They even changed which guy she ends up with at the end! SERIOUSLY! I didn't think you were allowed to do that!
I finished Over Sea, Under Stone Book 1--The Dark Is Rising Sequence. Thought it was excellent. Looking forward to Book 2. I'm going to pick it up on Friday. Also getting The Book Thief. Hoping to be able to control myself & not buy more than 2 books. Wish me luck! I'm re-reading Fever 1793. Also working on New Moon..not sure if I like it yet.
Sara, that is terrible. I loved Blood and Chocolate, I hate it when they make terrible movies based on good books.
