What Are You Reading Now?
Well, I put Paper Towns by John Green on the back burner, not because I wasn't going to like it, but because I happened to pick up the new Mary Higgins Clark, Just Take My Heart A Novel and am into it now. I am really looking forward to reading the Paper Towns, so I will probably get right back to it.
Misty:Perfect! I'm trying to cut back on the froth (and whip! LOL) and these sound like I'd enjoy them. I'll have to check them out after the challenge. I've heard of both books you mentioned... I've just never looked into them. Thanks for the rec. I'll keep you posted!
Finished The Forest of Hands and Teeth and have decided not to pick up another book until I finish The Book Thief (more than halfway through now!).
I've read it once before and really enjoyed it. But it was a few years back, so I'm going slow this second time around, savoring it. It's pretty good - I like the narrator's voice. The style of the book is so unique I don't think anyone could quite hate it.
Kristen, how'd you like The Forest of Hands and Teeth? I absolutely loved it and can't wait for the sequel to come out. A bit less enthused about the supposed movie, though, but who knows? Maybe it could work out.I finished Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and am going to be starting A Tree Grows in Brooklyn tomorrow. It will be my last book for the YA challenge and after I finish, I plan to pick up a whole bunch of adult books that I've been neglecting.
I finished reading
Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson over the weekend. Loved it! The entire set-up is strongly reminiscent of the Octavian Nothing books (this will also be a 2-volume story), but different enough that I really enjoyed it.
They'd probably make out the movie like any other zombie movie... I really enjoyed the book, I've never read anything like it. :)

I'm getting ready to go to the airport to take a plane to Florida for vacation. A YA book I'm taking with me is Wake by Lisa McMann. I will probably be out of touch for a bit.
I'm bad and am now reading like 7 books... I got an ARC copy of Candle Man, Book One The Society of Unrelenting Vigilance from the publisher, so I just felt the need to start this one too. So far, it's great. :)

Well, I know nothing about the book, but the cover is intriguing.
I got mixed up in the posts as to which book is about zombies. I confess to a love of zombie books. Which is it please?
The Forest of Hands and Teeth is the one they've been talking about recently. I don't know anything beyond that. It does sound like zombie fans like it, though!
Just finished The Luxe, which was pretty meh, trying to decide between The Book Thief and The Book of Lost Things, both of which have been sitting on my bookshelf staring me in the face accusingly for too long now.

I have just one mere credit left at paperbackswap.com and since Sabriel is about zombies, I'm off to go order it.
FYI-Sabriel is the first in a trilogy, the Abhorsen trilogy, to be exact. I haven't read the other two yet, but I can vouch for the fact that Sabriel stands alone so you don't have to worry about immediately getting all 3.Sabriel

I'm currently reading Lirael! Or actually listening to the brilliant Tim Curry read it to me. :)
I've only listened to about the first seven chapters, but I really like it so far. I was SUPPOSED to save it to listen to on an upcoming trip, but I couldn't wait. :) It's long, though, so there is still plenty of listening left for the trip. :)It IS different in that it focuses on a different main character. I do like her even though she is a tiny bit whiny. So far Sabriel & Touchstone have had only had one small scene, but I bet there will be more from them as the book progresses.
I started Evermore by Alyson Noel last night and hope to finish it tonight. I have about 150 pages left.

I am currently reading The Wind in the Willows. I just finished A Curse Dark as Gold, which I liked very much.
Working my way through New Moon--I should finish it tonight. I don't care how much some people might argue with me--I like this series. A lot.

I'm reading The Mysterious Benedict Society and loving it. I wasn't sure if I would get into it since it was picked for the challenge (the one where I have to walk down a row, spin around, and point at a book with my eyes closed). So I'm very, very happy that I'm enjoying it...it's cute!!!
I finished Adam Rex's The True Meaning of Smekday and went right into The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan. Both were great at keeping me in suspense, never expecting what was around the next page! Terry Pratchett's series that starts with The Wee Free Men made me laugh the loudest, however!

I am 1/4 way through The Graveyard Book and I'm not loving it. I don't know why but I'm just not feeling it. Bod hasn't drawn me in and there doesn't seem to be a lot of character development. I'm going to keep on truckin' and hope it gets better for me. I loved Coraline and was really excited to read this one.

I'..."I felt the same way and didn't really want to finish, and then they got to Ghulheim, and I LOVED it from there on. Stick with it.
I started Hurt Go Happy today. Even though I'm not deaf I can still relate to the main character because I can understand what she's going through with the way she gets treated like she's less capable than she is. It's not my usual fantasy stuff, but it's pretty sweet so far.
Finished New Moon last night and rolled right into Eclipse. I don't know what it is about this series that drags me in so much--it really isn't the best of writing. I just love the escapism, I guess.

I don't expect everything I read to be Pulitzer worthy writing, but it has to make me care, and she created an engaging world that makes you care.
(and yes, I know there are people out there rolling their eyes and groaning because they didn't care. Can't please everyone...)
I'm currently reading Beauty by Robin McKinley. It's a fast read so far, I'm really enjoying it. The only thing that bothers me is that my copy has some markings in it, apparently the previous owner went buckwild drawing designs around the chapter numbers.
Hmm, never had that one happen before. At least everything's not highlighted or underlined. I bought a copy of Vanity Fair once that had nearly every sentence underlined in red ink, and I could tell it was felt tip ink, not pen. It all soaked through, so there were lines on the reverse sides, often through the sentence itself.And I just asked myself, what good would it do to underline every line?

I loooved The House of Mirth. The Age of Innocence is probably her best known. She also wrote a lot of short stories, too, if you want to start small. Be warned, they are not light and frothy like The Luxe. Wharton was an upperclass New Yorker at the turn of the century. She knows what she's writing about, and there's so much more depth and detail in her stories. And she doesn't take the easy way out, which I love. I hope you enjoy her. If you read anything, let me know. :)
