I'm having one of Marianne's coincidences - the book I finished last night; one of the characters was named Jax. The book I started this morning; one of the characters is called Jaxon, nicknamed Jax! Not a common name!

I'm reading Black-Eyed Susans by Julia Heaberlin at the moment. It took me a bit to get into it, but it's got me now!

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Today, I'll be starting The House of Special Purpose by John Boyne; title refers to Ipatiev House where the Romanov family were housed in their final days and met their shameful demise.

message 14759: by Neko (new)

Neko @Ryan - Hahaha! That is certainly a snap like Brenda mentioned! :) I hope you enjoy it too.

Nicole Alexander (nicole_alexander) | 98 comments I've not read any Patrick Gale before. So it's always great to read someone new. I'm about half-way through A Place Called Winter. Am I enjoying it? Not really, but having said that its interesting enough to hold my attention. If I'd known what the subject matter was I never would have purchased the book, but then to say what it is would be an absolute spoiler.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Reading The Marriage of Opposites by the brilliant Alice Hoffman. It's the story of the artist Camille Pissaro and his strong and feisty mother Rachel who adored him.

Hoffman had a misstep with The Museum of Extraordinary Things, I think. I disliked that book but with The Marriage of Opposites, she appears to be back to her truly wonderful writing.

Lol, nah, I had a similar upbringing Nicole :) It's not what you would call a "nice book", but subject matter aside, it is a very poignant and well delivered story. I thought the writing was compelling.

Jessica Bowden | 22 comments Just started Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver. It's my second book I've read by her and I have noticed that its really easy to fall into the worlds that she describes. Does anyone else notice this about her writing?

Jessica Bowden | 22 comments RitaSkeeter wrote: "Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver. I don't think I've ever read any of her books actually. I might go have a sticky beak at what she's written :)"

She wrote a book called Panic which was a great book. It is about a group of teenagers who compete to win lots of money ($67000) by doing dangerouse, death-defying tasks. Its really good.

Virginia | 39 comments I'm not sure if I've posted about this or not! I'm a big psychological mystery fan (no serial killers), but I've just got into the second Josie Tucker mystery (Dim Sum, Dead Some: A Josie Tucker Mystery) after I lost it in my Kindle for a couple of weeks :-(. The first in the series The Bride Wore Dead, A Josie Tucker Mystery was a great read - funny with depth - and this one is unfolding in similar style. Josie is a food blogger and on the first page we get a "taste" of her humour: "What is a recipe but a proposition ... a pick-up line?" (less)
