My hubby is a Nick Hornby fan and wants to read it after me (and he's a slow reader) but after that I could do you a book swap if you don't have it by then :)

I am determined to finish it however, and I have, in the meantime started reading This House of Grief by Helen Garner, which is a terribly sad but interesting contrast.

Sally906 | 87 comments seem to be finishing books before I have time to say I'm reading them lately - but right now I am reading:

I am reading:
No Ghouls Allowed by Victoria Laurie - I love love love this series - and just over half way through and this one is not letting me down!
Treasured Secrets by Kendall Talbot - Romantic Suspense set in Italy. Not very far in, but already been drawn into the mystery surrounding our male lead!

What did you think of At the Water's Edge Nicole?"

It certainly wasn't what I expected, Dale, however I enjoyed the 'village' glimpse of Scotland during the war and the quirky inclusion of the Loch Ness monster. I found the relationship triangle didn't quite ring true for me but it was a good read.

I'm well past the dnf stage Rita, it got slightly more interesting at around the 75% mark so I will just push on and get it finished. As I mentioned, its not a badly written book...just a bit tedious.

I enjoyed Lost In Kakadu was a lot of depth to it, and real character growth, despite the light and fluffy feel. I am enjoying Treasured Secrets - I suspect there is going to be some gritty parts in this book too!

MaryG2E (goodreadscommaryg2e) | 934 comments One of the books I knocked over this past weekend of wretched weather, and which contributed to my page count for the Readathon was Book of Lost Threads by Tess Evans Book of Lost Threads by Tess Evans. I put this title on my TBR list after reading some reviews by other Aussie Readers. After a slow-ish start, it is a very worthwhile story which I greatly enjoyed. NOW, my question, dear fellow readers, do you think this book qualifies as a work of Literary Fiction?

I read it too and felt similar to you. It just didn't grab me like her other books always did. But maybe, I've just moved on from that kind of fiction, I don't know.

It was nominated for a literary award in 2011 so I would say yes Mary. If you check the book page..you can see whether they have been nominated or awarded there :)

Thanks for that tip Brenda - hadn't thought to check for awards. Undoubtedly this book is an excellent family saga, but I think the quality of the book elevates it to the level of literature. It has a sophisticated narrative, juggling multiple plot lines (the 'threads') with skill, while addressing a number of social issues in a meaningful way. A very accomplished first novel, IMHO.

What this discussion leads to is the fact that I have fulfilled the requirements of the Aussie Readers June Literary Fiction challenge in the first week of the month! Not quite how I'd planned it, but what the heck!

Jülie ☼♄  (jlie) | 6581 comments Well I have finally finished A Spool of Blue Thread by Anne Tyler! I will have a think before writing my review.

I only started This House of Grief by Helen Garner, have read 10% and it sounds like compelling reading, though not really suitable for a readathon because it needs more focus. So I concentrated on finishing ASOBT, and now I can settle into my June reads which include the above. :))))
