Vicki Tyley (vickityley) | 1732 comments Still reading Dark Hollow by John Connolly. Damn, he can write.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Emperor of Thorns is living up to expectations, although the downside of having read the previous novel nearly a year ago is that I have forgotten a lot of what was going on. Thankfully Emperor has a "Previously on Lost" section at the start which summarises the previous two books, but there's still some specifics I'm fuzzy on. :/

message 6017: by Diane (new)

Diane | 14 comments I am only new to GR but a book I read recently
was "Haxby's Circus" by Katharine Susannah
Prichard. Third time I have read it and "third
time lucky" because the last time I can remember
being disappointed in it and Gina. This time, in
a different state of mind maybe, I just liked it
and felt Gina rose above all the negativity and
was really a woman ahead of her time. It is set
in a travelling circus (Prichard travelled with
Wirth's to get background for the story) and Gina
is the star attraction until an awful accident
leaves her fighting for her life in a small
country hospital. The setting is the early part
of the twentieth century and the descriptions
of the depressing conditions and the often
hostile country crowds that were endured
on the road are very telling.

I hate when they do that. I've actually had the same book twice, thinking it was a new release, not realizing until I started it that it was the same book, different name! I bet I'm not the only person as well!

I've done that too. America often changes titles from their UK ones.

Finished Violent Exposure - a really good book . Isn't it nice to read crime novels set in Sydney?
Now I am starting Never Go Back. I love the last few months of the year when every famous author brings out their latest book aimed at the Xmas market.

God knows I treat my job as a charity fund for book purchases.

Just finished Emperor of Thorns, the final in the Broken Empire trilogy from Mark Lawrence. Review is here.

Bit disappointing, unfortunately. :(
