Vinnies, Salvos, Lifeline, I often pick them up there, also old Peter Corris books, both of which sell well on Fishpond after I've read them and are thin enough to post out as Large Letter....

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Reading Await Your Reply by Dan Chaon: literary fiction with psychological mystery thrown in - LOVE it. I'll be hunting down the rest of this author's books.

You've now whetted my appetite for a Boney book, Marianne. I'll be checking out all of those sources :)

message 6211: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (pjaye) I just finished listening to The Ocean at the End of the Lane...totally different to anything I've read before. It's narrated by the author and he has the best voice, like warm milk chocolate.
I think I'd listen to him read the phone book...lol.
I really enjoyed the book, but I'm not really sure what I *think* about it all yet - will have to let it marinate in my mind for a few days.

I've just started Chopin Manuscript (I think it's only available in audio). Someone recently mentioned that Oprah had a list of best ever audiobooks books, so I googled and found one, and this was on it and looked interesting. I don't think I have read any books by any of the authors.
Currently I am trying to read/listen to a different type of book each time and expand my horizons a bit.

Great you enjoyed it Phrynne. I'm waiting awhile, as when I finish it, I'll be all caught up:( I don't want to read it until the next one is nearly here;)

You are very restrained. I just reassure myself that the next one will be here in approximately six months. She usually seems to manage two a year in between all her other stuff!

Will look forward to your review Michael. I just added it to my TBR and reserved it at the library. Sounds like a good read.

message 6217: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I've abandoned Dianne Blacklock's The Best Man for the moment. The writing feels clumsy to me. I'll try to pick it up later.

And if I don't, anyone wanting to buy this brand new and New Release paperback book for 1/2 price, can PM me. ( Is this type 'selling' allowed here, Brenda???

So I've started Left Neglected by Lisa Genova.
Like her previous Still Alice, this novel is excellent.

Mish | 3601 comments Thankyou to everyone who has replied to my comment. Yes I'm having a blast here in the US. I'm now in NY and today we went to Time Square to see the broadway musical "The Lion King". It was an absolutely fabulous musical.

Anyhow I finished The Big Sleep and really enjoyed it, gave it 4 stars. Now I'm starting Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn.

I am about half way through Chosen To Die by Lisa Jackson and I am disappointed. I expected her to be better than this. She waffles! Far far too much back story on every single character. I am actually skimming this book and I had hoped for something really good!

message 6232: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Just finished LEFT Neglected by the very capable Lisa Genova. 4★

This novel has been shelved as chick-lit: in error I feel- this is extremely good fiction.

My review is http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

message 6233: by Jo (new)

Jo Rushby | 238 comments No way is this book chick lit.that does surprise me they listed it as that.

message 6234: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Last night I started The Believers by Zoë Heller.

From GR suggestion of authors similar to Lionel Shriver: Heller does not really write like Shriver but the novel is good so I'm happy GR brought it to my attention.

That's one reason I don't like classifications.
I would call it mainstream fiction.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Last night I started You Remind Me of Me by Dan Chaon.

I probably would have abandoned this at about Pg 50, if I hadn't read his brilliant Await Your Reply. But I've persevered and I'm finally invested in the story.

Don't you love it when your perseverance pays off?!

I'm reading The Casual Vacancy at the moment. I've heard mixed reviews so was interested to see what it was like. It's not bad so far, however I can't say I'm caught up in the story yet, but I'm not even 100 pages in yet...
