I've been sure I want to read this for awhile - I will now check if it's arrived on my library's bookshelves yet. Thanks Liam:)

Michael (knowledgelost) I'm currently reading John Safran's True Crime book Murder in Mississippi. Really interesting, I'm a fan of his documentary film making and knew the story behind this book so I was interested in checking this one out.

Also reading If on a Winter's Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino which is taking a while because I keep rereading sections, writing down quotes and telling my wife about the book. Absolutely love this one.

Liza Perrat (httpwwwgoodreadscomlizaperrat) I just finished, and loved, Zoe Saadia's The Fall of the Empire. Now started The Hangman's Daughter, which also seems like it will be good.

I'm reading Mary Doria Russell's novel Children of God. It is the sequel to The Sparrow, which I loved. It just goes to show what you can do with the novel form - whoever would have thought Jesuits & Outer Space would work so brilliantly together?!

Vicki Tyley (vickityley) | 1732 comments I'm reading The Midnight Promise by Aussie author Zane Lovitt. Superb writing. I can see why it won a Ned Kelly Award.

Here's a short excerpt:

"Demetri gets an overcoat from his car and together we hike silently into the wind. Footscray is the delta where trucks pour out of the city and spread across the west of Melbourne, so living here means slowly drowning in exhaust and the yawn of diesel engines and bored drivers who watch you in their rearview mirrors. It’s what keeps housing cheap and makes somewhere so close to the CBD a home for half of Melbourne’s migrant population. Sundays here are like low tide on a coral reef: every shape and color of life is on parade, hollering into mobile phones and undertaking their own serious mission, just like me and Demetri. I steer him away from the stir of Paisley Street and south under the rail overpass and he’s happy, at least for now, not to know where we’re going." --The Midnight Promise

message 6329: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I just finished 11.22.63 by Stephen King. I've never read a Stephen King before, and - wow!! 5 stars from me - it was about 750 pages or thereabouts, but although I was a little daunted by that originally, it didn't worry me after I started it - I found it a compelling read from the first word!

Sci-fi is not my normal genre, but the time travel back into the past was a really interesting concept - and revealed the depth of King's research. Loved, loved, loved it!!

Oooh, I really want to read this one too as everybody seems to rave about it.

I started reading Outback Dreams by Rachael Johns today which isn't my normal genre but I seem to be enjoying it so far.

This sounds really interesting. I'm not a sci-fi person either but the 1963 era certainly interests me. Added to my TBR. Thank you:)

How small was the print???

message 6333: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 3569 comments I thought the print in the copy I had was fine, Bette. Normal - whatever normal is!!

And the more I think about it, the more I think what a wonderful story it was! I'd like more of something similar, but it seems quite a departure from Stephen King's usual fare so I don't think I would enjoy most of his other books as much, but there are a few I've added to my TBR.

Vicki Tyley (vickityley) | 1732 comments Stephen King is indeed a master storyteller.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) I finished Skeletons at the Feast by Chris Bohjalian.

A short review is here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Last night I started We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver.

Like last time I read this, it is un-put-down-able; up to pg 310. Although there is a part of me that wants to just put this aside and never pick it up again, there is a bigger part that's totally transfixed.
