Thanks for the welcome. I have read the guidelines and will abide by them as far as I can. I'm blind, but my husband reads to me, and I also download books which I can read with a program called Jaws.
I did recommend a book already, but I was unable to post the cover picture in my reply. Is there anything I can do about this problem?

No, I can't see well enough to type myself. I hire assistants who speak good English and work the computer for me. Actually it works out quite well. I listen to my messages with a program called Jaws which reads out loud to me. I also use Jaws for reading books.

I'm Maureen from the suburbs of Atlanta, GA. I work in IT and have a love of language, cultures, travel, history, politics, people, places and ideas. I enjoy historical fiction and often like to surround that with learning about the real history of the people and places. Michener got me started with his wonderful sagas of people and places. Some other recent favorites are Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth and Fall of Giants. I've enjoyed learning about the early modern history of Western Europe and the lines of descent to the throne in England and France from the fabulous TV series, The White Queen (books by Philippa Gregory). I've read about WWII, the history of the Middle East, a bit about India, and am currently filling in my knowledge of the American Revolution with Paul Revere's Ride, Washington's Crossing, To Try Men's Souls, and Angels in the Whirlwind. This seemed like the place to get suggestions for the best books. Looking forward to meeting some of you!
