Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Hello All,My name is Suzanne, and I live in the United States.
History has always been one of my favorite subjects. Even in high school, I was one of the few who read my history textbook for pleasure. If it’s well researched and written, I like just about any topic. However, I particularly like autobiographies, especially by non-famous people with no agenda other than to record their lives. Also, I’m researching my family tree, so I often select books that will help me understand an event an ancestor lived through or the period he or she lived in.
So glad you joined us, Suzanne. Since you are researching your family tree, you might want to browse the topics on the home page and find the ones that would be appropriate. The link to our home page is:https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

My name is Jerry Gause and I live in the United States. I enjoy reading history books on practically any subject - American History, World War II, American Civil War, Genghis Kahn, Russian Tsars, American Indian, Roman Empire, Napoleon Bonapart, etc. I'd rather stay diverse and not necessarily focus on one segment of history. Looking for recommendations by other members for the best books on a wide range of historical topics.
Hello and welcome, Jerry. You are like many of our members.......if it is history, you read it! Let me suggest that you browse our home page and find topics that catch you eye. Our link is:https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Hello everyone, My name is John and I am currently a teacher at an international school in Tokyo and this year I will be teaching History to the 9-12th grade at my school and next year we will implement the IB Diploma Program. I have a degree in History, but my career path took me away from History for the last few years and now I am planning on diving in again. Mostly European for the 9-10th graders and 20th Century for the 11-12th graders. Personally, I love it all. So I am always looking for good recommendations for myself and my students

Hi all, I'm Brett and I'm from the US originally. I'm an Engineer, but have always enjoyed reading history. I've read mostly American History and some Military History, but am also becoming more interested in European history and other areas of the world. I also enjoy reading about engineering-related history (Hoover Dam, Panama & Suez Canals, etc). I'm currently finishing up the book "Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition"

Hi I am Luwanda Dunfee. I live in Washington state in the United States. I work in the medical field, but history is where I really want to be. I have loved history from the time I was young, after being exposed to German history. I joined this group in hopes of being introduced to new books and subjects that I might have missed.

Hi all, I recently joined this group and am looking forward to participating. My reading in history has been largely US-centric (plus a bit on ancient Rome) but I'm looking to broaden my horizons. I suspect like many people, I am taking advantage of the 100th anniversary of the start of the Great War to do some reading on the subject. I found the following to be a very nice overview:
by
G.J. Meyerwhich I followed up with
by Margaret MacMillan(no photo)and
by Barbara W. Tuchman(no photo)Unfortunately, now I'm hooked and I've added at least a dozen more books on WWI to my TBR pile, and that barely even takes into consideration the many titles which have been published this year. In recognition of the inevitability that I will be reading many more titles on the subject, and to supplement the mostly horrible maps in the books above, I have bought two excellent WWI atlases which I can highly recommend:
by Arthur S. Banks(no photo)
by Michael Neiberg(no photo)Additionally, I'm just about to get started on the even more daunting subject of World War II.
Hello everyone. My name is Michael and I'm a roving American English teacher. I have lived in various places in the USA and South Korea. I will also be in New Zealand shortly to study, travel, and work for a couple of years. I like to travel so I find reading history necessary for understanding more about the places I go and live. I'm interested in all sorts of history past and present. Thus I joined the group here in an attempt to include more history books into my reading each year.
Greetings, everyone! I just recently joined this group. I look forward to reading (and hopefully participating in) some interesting discussions. Like Grafakos above me, my main reason for joining this group is to broaden my horizons and learn to see history from an entirely different perspective. My history education (what little of it anyway) was also very European-centric and I'd like to change that. Right now I have an interest in all things History of Science.
A warm welcome, Grafakos. What a great job on the citations (couple of glitches but you have the idea) Take a look at our WWI topic at the address below and you will find enough book recommendations to last two lifetimes!https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

If you like to talk about the Crusades, then you will find me your best friend. I also have great interest about Early Christianity - up to Constantine's conversion, the War of Turkish Independence, and in general about the conflicts during the Sixties. Much of my knowledge is second-hand, thanks to scavenging the Wiki during free time in my office hours.

Thanks.
Hi Gwen, welcome. We have a medieval art topic:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
This is how a book should look:

However my interest in reading books is about anti-imperialism, their lies and truth.
The coming of new government in power in India brought the imperialism to my country in full swing. So I got interested in India's political history. India's leaders after Independence etc.
I will really appreciate if the group help me to guide me about what books to read.
