ARCHIVE TWO: PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF ~
My name is Aaron Heller. I spent most of 2014 reading and rereading but not finishing "History of Madness" by Michael Foucalt. I believe there is an area of clarity in the deliberate ambiguity of Foucalt. He betrays a deep knowledge of the literature of the centuries. The concept of "Unreason" seems clear and baffling. Y France in the seventeenth and eighteenth century is "classical' needs explanation. Y the age of confinement leads to psychotherapy neds clarification for me. I also read and lead a discussion of "Madness and Civilization". I picked up the History because Madness was an abridged version.I would like to start a thread on "Unreason".
Foucault is saying that Unreason is the lack of reason and thought without reason is madness.

Hello everybody,My name is Tyler Maybee. I have recently graduated with my MA in International Development from University of Denver specializing in Central and Eastern Europe. In undergrad I was a history minor and have always loved history and excelled in the subject throughout school.
I am highly interested in French History especially the revolution, African colonialism, Modern European History (After WWII), and American history.

So happy to have found this group. I live in Austin, Texas, love history, especially social history, and will read about pretty much any place and any period. I am in a bit of a Carlo Cipolla phase at the moment, but my shelves include work by lots of other historians. One of my current projects is to read more about the development and growth of the railroad in the southwestern United States; if anybody has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

I'm Jerry, currently in residence in Arkansas. I have been doing some deep study of history after retiring from the San Fransisco Chronicle. It's not bunk, as Henry Ford said, but a certain alert skepticism is recommended.
In 1950 I abandoned the quest for the laurels of the Phd.in history. My mentor Dr.Conyer Reed (a truly great teacher and English historian)said I was good but not great. My psychiatrist said I did not want to supersede my father. My life has been only filled with History , for anything you read is an aspect of the human and his relation to time and being. The joys of reading and all that exudes from letters and sentences makes life journey exquisite.aaron

Hello everyone!My name is Christopher (or Chris, I don't mind) and I live and work in Wales as a public library librarian.
I have always had a keen interest in history and I graduated from Exeter with a BA history with European study. The European study was in Poland so I have an interest in Polish history (particularly the rich history of Judaism in Poland and the Jagiellonian period).
The period between the World Wars, the second World War (particularly the history of British political parties in this period) and the holocaust are also of high interest.
I have had a lifelong fascination with the British monarchy, which has started to branch out into other European Royal houses.
Lastly, I have recently begun to read more widely on the history of China. I had the wonderful oppertunity of being able to live and work in China for a two year period and as a result I am desperate to find out as much as possible about its long and varied history.
I suppose the long and the short of it is that I simply love history and gaining knowledge. A major concern of mine being: so many books, so little time!

Aaron always go to the main screen which has the masthead and photos of the books which we are reading at any given time and what is coming up. That way you will always know what is being read. Additionally we send out an event notification (one) which tells you about upcoming reads. Hello everyone. My name is Jess Thomas, I am American and graduated from college with a B.A. in English. I worked on my college newspaper and interned for a few magazines. What I loved most were my literature courses and before that I excelled in English, gobbling up books and writing term papers about them for my classes. Another passion of mine was history, though I preferred learning more about the individuals as opposed to the time period.I didn't take what the textbooks taught as history as I knew that history was darker than what The First Thanksgiving etc was about and I prefer finding the truth out for myself i.e. Lies My Teacher Told Me
I also enjoy historical fiction as it provides a perspective that allows me to approach real history with more interest. It is very nice to meet all of you.
