I'm liking the Blog option too. I'm part-time blogging now at a friend's blog but I like that I can post my thoughts at bookslike. I guess I can do that here too but I like the look and feel of it at bookslike.I still love GR, my friends here, the groups and discussions...bookslike is just another thing that I wanted to check out. Who knows...I may play with it for a few days and end up not going back at all....just like I did with ficfact and shelfari.

Just finished Where'd You Go, Bernadette...which totally belongs on True Love 101. The love part of the story is between me and the book. Loved it! Now I'm starting It Had to be You by Jill Shalvis...and I'm noticing all the clichés...you shouldn't read fluff immediately after something that's brilliant. You might punish the fluff just because it isn't brilliant.
Sadly the last time I can use the little picture of WYGB (that's what we fans call it) in a post.
Ian, I run into that often if I read a great book and then follow it with a cookie cutter book. Even if the standard book is good enough to pass the time, it's as if I'm glaring at it in judgement because I want it to be better.I'll probably hold off on booklikes for now because I don't have anyone on a twitter account or otherwise who I'd want to share book stuff who isn't already here on GR, and I don't need any new book friends, haha. Although, I guess it might be something to look into later down the road as an author, if I'm wanting to expand my social networking.
Thanks for the info though! I'll keep it in mind on the back burner.
Started
for a buddy read and it's a lot of fun so far. I didn't expect the book to be adult (or maybe NA, but she's in grad school so I almost think older) because the cover looked younger. Also started
and it's painfully cheesy so far - enough to provoke me into venting status updates.
Off topic, but it's so dark here. The fires have killed just about all of the sunlight. :(
Stacia, I hate that smoky smell too. Like going outside is so unhealthy and smoke really bothers my allergies. I hope they can get te fires out soon. Not seeing the sun is so terrible. We get those fires during the summer and I hate it!
I just started Bernadette this afternoon on the drive home and How the heck have I never read Ellen Hopkins before!
As of right now, they're naming the fire as the most destructive in CO history, even more than the big Waldo Canyon fire from last year. We're about 7 miles from the fire line and it's sad to see how many homes have been destroyed so far and lives have been lost. I don't think it will reach us, but it's like...again?The other one at the Royal Gorge (which is about an hour from us) destroyed a big portion of the theme park up there. :(
Lol. I often feel like that when I discover a new author. I can't wait to start it. I have had it on hold for months!!

I don't know at all. I've been keeping the news off because every time I turn on the t.v. I want to cry. It's a trip. The sky is freaking dark. It's one step up from being night time right now. The smoke has literally choked everything out. We can't open windows or anything because it's instant smoke in the house. Silas wanted to go down to the playground and doesn't understand why we can't go outside.

That is just heartbreaking. I'm such an earth lover that any fire just makes meSo sad. I hope it doesn't come close to you & people can stay safe.
And the fire fighters. :( I hope they are safe too. My neighbor has a son who is a forest fire fighter in Alaska. It is such intense and dangerous work.
Yes it's a crazy job. If its big enough then Cali fire fighters would go to help.
It just must be so stressful to have yearly natural disasters. Same for anyone living in a tornado/hurricane area. I'm in earthquake country but thank god it's not yearly. Just the big one hanging over us. I really feel for everyone who has to rebuild constantly.
how awful, I'm so sorry! I'm lucky that except for a VERY occasional tornado scare (where at the vvvveeery tip of tornado alley), we don't get big disasters like that.
Us too. We just had a big "derecho" storm scare -- Wendy you too (since we are kind of closish)? And it was nothing. But the after the news released this crazy scare the downtown of Chicago emptied, people rushing home from work -- White Sox cancelled their game (the Blackhawks didn't though -- woohoo!) and the storm was nothing. Here is a funny in the paper recently about it:

Haha, I am guessing it is not new! I was bummed too! We had arranged for a sleeping area in our basement (preparing to hide out from tornadoes) we took all of our yard furniture and toys inside. The cleaning staff at my building were terrified since they had to stay all night -- and nothing!
lol...I think like Tuesday night we actually had a tornado warning...I was like oblivious to that, until the emergency signal went on my phone...I put the dogs in the bathroom and then sat in front of the door, listening to the Voice and them barking
LMAO!! I grew up sleeping in the basement during the summer, but never lived through a tornado in my neighborhood (just some miles away) so I know the fear of them, but Tuesday was not it! :DPoor doggies ......
it didn't touch-down here - i think they said like north east of me about 15 miles, but yeah, i was a bit freaked...
LOL, yeah we did just have that. Everyone kept going "Tornados tonight" and I was getting ticked because I'm TERRIFIED of tornados! But we barely had a storm. Like three loud thunders and that was it.
Natural disasters can be devastating. I've never been in a tornado...only earthquakes which can be scary if very big.Stacia, stay safe and I hope the smoke will clear soon.
There's a big indie author event in San francisco tomorrow but I have plans and can't go. I was ok about not going until they added Tiffanie DeBartolo to the list today. Now, I'm so bummed bc how often does she do signings? I don't think often. Sucks but oh well.

I have a hard time with Marchetta because going to school in australia, Looking for Alibrandi is one of the required reading books (or at least was when I was in high school) and there is nothing like being forced to read a book you don't want to because its assigned to turn you off an author
You could always look at it as different books/different stories or themes? Maybe that would help.I still need to read the follow up to Saving Francesca
Piper's Son was great. And Dee, I probably would have had the same problem, so in her case I'm so glad that I didn't grow up in Aus.
its kinda like John Marsden (don't know if you guys have read any of his stuff - he wrote Tomorrow, When the War Began)- he was like the "golden author" of what was YA literature when I was in high school, and every year you did one or more of his books (I think in like grade 9, we read 3 or 4 of them)...and he just never worked for me...and it almost put me off the post-apoc genre for a good long time (until THG came out)
I listened to the first last year and just downloaded the second today! :)

I finished up Somebody to Love (Kristin Higgins) today - it makes me want to go back and read the other two by her that feature the characters that appear in this one...so glad she is doing more traditional romance now, vice chick-lit...almost done with The Bone Garden (tess gerritsen) - really liking this, its primarily focused on medical procedures from the 1830's - not for someone with a weak stomach though, it is rather descriptive in places...and almost done with Burned - I have a new addiction...
