Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Finished Shattered Promises (Shattered Promises, #1) by Jessica Sorensen Well, I kept reading although not sure why. So much of it was the protagonist wondering "what's going on?" - which was really annoying because I got the broad strokes of it pretty fast, so it irritated the crap out of me that this chick wasn't asking smart questions. And she was so passive. She just kept falling (sometimes) literally into things.

Jonsing for some mindblowingly good YA to read next.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Book 4 was the weakest of all of her books. I think a lot of us were disappointed in it. Book 5 really picked it up, then Clockwork Princess was incredible.

Finished Levitating Las Vegas by Jennifer Echols and it was just okay. I was hoping for it to wander into much darker territory after having the concept dangled in front of us. The romance was sort of boring too, so there wasn't even some steam to make up for anything.

Still working on Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu and starting The S-Word by Chelsea Pitcher

I had the feeling that one was going to suck.

Have you read Shadows (The Rephaim, #1) by Paula Weston Sanctum (Guards of the Shadowlands, #1) by Sarah Fine or Unraveling (Unraveling, #1) by Elizabeth Norris yet? Those were a few of my recent enthusiastic likes.

Leea | 1437 comments Finished The Dex-Files (Experiment in Terror, #5.7) by Karina Halle and I loved it! Oh man, to be inside the head of Dex. To see Perry through his eyes, that was fantastic.

Now i'm reading Into the Hollow (Experiment in Terror, #6) by Karina Halle and it's already non stop goodness!

This month is crazy... bat *hit crazy. I spent half my day trying to find a dress to my BIL's wedding. I found one and it's cute but there is so much else that needs to be done. Okay, deep breath.

message 555: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Leea - you'll find the dress. So many are out right now, it's a good time to be shopping. I just picked up 3 today - from QVC - LOL! My mom is a QVC-aholic, and Issac Mizrahi was on one of the times I was walking by. He had a really simple, comfy dress, so I picked it up in 3 colors - navy, black, and pink. Then I picked up a couple of scarves and a pretty summer cardigan with a pink flower pattern on it. Now I have to go shoe shopping... oh woe is me! ;-)

ANYWAY... I'm liking Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) by Cassandra Clare much better than "City of Fallen Angels". Although, I have a feeling I'm in for heartbreak, especially since all I've heard about Clockwork Princess is about people weeping while reading it!

Maya Banks' Ours To Love (Wicked Lovers, #7) by Shayla Black just came out tonight/today. I love being PT when a new ebook hits, 'cuz now I get it just after 9p PT!!! Haven't dug in yet, though, 'cuz I don't wanna get distracted from the Clockwork Prince right now.

message 556: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments I'm reading A Ghost of a Chance at Love which is not quite as interesting as discussing Return of the Jedi with a 40 year old virgin who lives with his mum, but is definitely better than cleaning the toilet after someone painted it with projectile vomit.

A Ghost of a Chance at Love by Terry Spear

message 557: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I love Hot Head, Lori and Damon is one of my fav authors - I got to meet him last year and he was a hoot ;) - there is supposedly a sequel to HH in the works...

Dirty came in yesterday - so i'm ready to start when you guys are - do we want to say like the 15th?

message 558: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I LOOOOOVE Infernal Devices. For me, I thought it was way better than MI. I know not everyone felt that way though.

I have to go read your reviews, Lori, lmao.

Regina, I'm so excited your reading EiT.

message 559: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished reading And One Last Thing ... by Molly Harper and I really liked it. I didn't care too much for her paranormal books but this one was great.

I also finished Lying Season (Experiment in Terror, #4) by Karina Halle and the ending pissed me off!

message 560: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments At the author, or at Dex or Perry?

Just at Dex. I wrote some thoughts in the EiT thread! Ugh!!

I hadn't but just put Sanctum and Unravelling on hold at the library. Thanks, Stacia!

message 563: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I love Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror, #1) by Karina Halle so much. It is everything I love about UF. I haven't been this excited about a UF series since I started Fever back in late 2009! I freaking love it!

Kay, I really like Molly Harper's PNR books as I feel like they are so similar in theme and style to her chic-lit book And One Last Thing ... by Molly Harper

message 564: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Regina, if you love that one it ONLY gets BETTER!

message 565: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I cannot wait! This book is why I read. I have been looking for something like this for so long. :)

message 566: by Leea, Escape Artist (last edited May 07, 2013 09:24PM) (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Yes, they keep getting better and better. Oh man, I'm so head over heels in love with Dex!

Got a dress, dark blue, so cute. I also found an amazing bracelet and neckless at a thrift store. Wahoo!

message 567: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Go Leea!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Thrift store finds = awesome.

Finished Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu and it was a lot of fun. I liked that both characters were kick-ass. Kay, have you read book 2?

I'm already working on something else and wanted to fit in Lost Girl this week, but I might pick up a historical romance sometime over the next day or two. Not sure if I want to move on to the second Viking/Saxon or maybe go with a Lisa Kleypas. I might be in a Kleypas mood.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I haven't read book 2 yet but I really want to.

Kleypas is always a good choice. Which one are you thinking of reading?

message 570: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I'm currently reading Laiden's Daughter by Suzan Tisdale an indie highlander romance. It's going ok so far.

message 571: by Angie (new)

Angie (pinkindle) I'm almost done with Wuthering Nights An Erotic Retelling of Wuthering Heights by I.J. Miller , which I'm liking better than the original, but it seems like some of the scenes were added for shock rather than because they make sense.

message 572: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Force of Nature (Troubleshooters, #11) by Suzanne Brockmann -done! I didn't really care about Ric- didn't get much of a sense of him at all beyond a cookie cutter alpha male kind of thing. His friend Martell had way more personality. However - Jules and Robin!!! Sigh ... Yay!!! My love was all about them.

Also, and maybe you all know this? But you've got me interested in checking out the Darkhouse series - book 1 is free on Amazon and book 2 is .99. Maybe it's always that price but if not, thought I'd pass it on. :)

message 573: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I think they are always that price, since she's indie. First is free, then the second is .99, then after that they go up. But the most is 3.99.

You should totally read them, they're amazing!

AND, yes I agree with you! Jules and Robin were aMAZING in that one. But 12 was even more Jules/Robin amazing. :)

message 574: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I really liked Ric and really liked Ric and Annie. They are one of my favorite couples. Good news for you Tellulah -- Martell is the focus of a spin off series coming in February! (I really liked Martell too) Do Or Die by Suzanne Brockmann So much Jules and Robin goodness to come. :)

I am loving Darkhouse, Tellulah I think you would really like the series. Smashwords has the books less than Amazon as well and I believe authors get a bigger chunk of the profits from Smashwords?

I've got the first two now and really looking forward to starting them. I'm so so happy to have all you great GRers passing on reads. :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I feel so out of the loop. Suspense is one of the only genres I don't really like.

message 578: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Stacia I don't either. There really no other suspense series I have ever read that I like -- occasionally I find a book that is okay in a series but it is hit or miss. It seems more unbelievable to me than urban fantasy, lol. The thing about troubleshooters is that it is completely character driven, focused on the characters friendship and relationships and they are really well developed.

Me too! How did I miss Experiment in Terror? But I am thrilled to be starting and enjoying this series. :)

message 580: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I soo need to read Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror, #1) by Karina Halle !

Just finished the audio for Kiss of a Demon King (Immortals After Dark, #7) by Kresley Cole . Enjoyed it tremendously as usual! All that corny dialogue and the moaning! It's awesome.

Now I'm reading Hot Finish (Fast Track, #3) by Erin McCarthy and need to finish The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald for my review on Friday.

message 581: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I love the Great Gatsby. :) I read it last year exactly around this time.

message 582: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I wasn't a fan of TGG - it bugged me, but I can't figure out why...I do kinda wanna see the Leo DiCaprio version of the movie though

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I love all things 1920's, so I would like to read it at some point.

message 584: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments At my book club last year, we read The Great Gatsby and then watched the movie. By that time we were all pretty toasted and laughed hysterically at the movie. It is funny, b/c I remember seeing the movie years ago and loved it but it has not aged well. :D

message 585: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I'm not looking forward to the remake of the Great Gatsby...

Stacia, don't feel left out. :) I don't even know how to describe the Troubleshooters series, it's like this big large family that you get to know. I've never liked suspense before and it's not really suspense but more these missions they go on. It's Brockmann's writing, how she writes these human connections. I can't wait to see what HR book you pick to read... I need a break from Dex & Perry.

message 586: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Leea you said it perfectly!

message 587: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I finished Into the Hollow (Experiment in Terror, #6) by Karina Halle and wow... I didn't think these characters could get more complex or that I could love Dex more but... yeah!!

Wendy and I are diving into the next short, And With Madness Comes the Light (Experiment in Terror, #6.5) by Karina Halle (look at those abs *wow*) I cannot get enough of Dex POV's. He's so male, crude and funny.

Then i'm taking a break, yeah, I ran out of books. So I need to read Spirit (Elemental, #3) by Brigid Kemmerer (Stacia, do you want to read it with me? :)

message 588: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Is she writing more EiT?

message 589: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Never mind, just answered my own question. :) Sorry!

message 590: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Regina wrote: "I love the Great Gatsby. :) I read it last year exactly around this time."

I love it too. The language is so sparse but descriptive and the descriptions of New York are still so true that if you are a New Yorker, you feel them deep in your heart. It's as Mr. Fitzgerald describe something you knew about the City but never could put into words.

I've never seen any of the movies but I saw a clip the other day of the 1974 version and everybody looked so sweaty! I still don't like DiCaprio as Gatsby - he looks too confident in the previews I've seen and that's not Gatsby at all. As I'm reading, I'm imagining Robert Redford as Gatsby. :)

message 591: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I never picked up on that b/c I am not a New Yorker. :) It is the classic structure of THE novel with imagery and metahors, which is why it is so often used in high school english lit classes. For me, the descriptions of human behavior and how ugly they could be is something I really enjoyed.

Have you read The Paris Wife by Paula McLain ? Fitzgerald and his wife are characters in that book because Hemingway traveled in the same social circle. He is not painted in a good light at all. And it is set in the twenties.

Right now the book I am listening to is also about

message 592: by D.G. (new)

D.G. No, I haven't read that book. I should definitely check it out.

message 593: by Regina (new)

I didn't get it until I visited New York and Long Island. Then I understood more. I need to re-read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald , too. I'm looking forward to this movie. I always felt as if the Robert Redford version was too nice and too pretty. There's that darker, dirtier layer underneath that Fitzgerald is trying to expose. From the previews, I think this latest version might capture it. We'll see - heading off this Friday to see it with girlfriends on a GNO.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Speaking of 1920's, I ended up deciding on Before I Met You by Lisa Jewell on a whim when the reader with my galley in progress was in the other room and I was too lazy to get it. So far, so good. I got 25% in without realizing that I was blazing through it.

Leea, when are you wanting to start Spirit? Tonight or tomorrow? I think Anna was wanting to read it with me but she has a couple of books to go first, so I'm hoping she won't mind if I just get it out of the way, since the book releases soon and I'd like to read it before release.

Lori (lorimcd) Regina, is there a date for the Dirty by Megan Hart Buddy Read? I might have missed it somewhere in the thread....

message 597: by Dee (new)

message 599: by Angie Elle, BaBAMB!!! (new)

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I'm having Kristen Ashley withdrawals, so I picked up Play It Safe by Kristen Ashley . It's shorter than her other ones, so I know I'll be finished before Friday--when I come home from work and barricade myself inside with Down London Road (On Dublin Street, #2) by Samantha Young . Must. Read. In. One. Sitting. I am SO EXCITED to read it! LOL
