Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments lol thx! the guys who owned my house before - their solution was another layer of lino...the kitchen has at least 4 and the bathroom had like 5 (the other thing actually holding the toilet up was the lino - the floor had rotted away because of a leaky plange)

Leea | 1437 comments Ohh man, that crazy Linoleum. Our first house had light blue shag carpet... I swear when we rolled that all up it weighed a freakin' ton. Home improvements are fun but a lot of work.

Finished Taken by Selena Kitt and it was short, sexy and sweet.

Tomorrow i'm going to start Old Blood (Experiment in Terror, #5.5) by Karina Halle

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Ah, shag carpet. Now there are some memories. My mom used to have a bright gold shag.

Been sort of hit and miss with reading the past couple of days. Haven't had a chance to read much, but I've managed to finish up a couple of books that were in progress.

The Exiled Queen (Seven Realms, #2) by Cinda Williams Chima which was great
Shrapnel by Stephanie Lawton which was good
and pulled a DNF on Connected (Connections #1) by Kim Karr which was too blah and cheesy for my liking

Starting Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu Levitating Las Vegas by Jennifer Echols

message 504: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) So on the lines of the stories in the Troubleshooters series I start out least interested in become my favs ... Lindsay and Jenk. Loved them! Into the Storm (Troubleshooters, #10) by Suzanne Brockmann

message 505: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Me too!! I loved how neither was a traditional romance ideal.

message 506: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I loved them too! And it was the first book that really focused on Izzy!

message 507: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Finished Dancing on Coals by Ellen O'Connell which was really good!

For those who have a Nook HD (Stacia), there was an software update today which includes the google play store. So, now there are so many more apps to access and it feels like an actual tablet now.

message 508: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments fun -- very cool about the apps.

I loved Dancing on Coals too. It was so good. So amazing. I haven't started reading anything yet, but am listening to And One Last Thing ... by Molly Harper

message 509: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished After the Night by Linda Howard and it was okay. It's my first Howard book and I wasn't really that impressed.

Regina, I look forward to hearing what you think about that Molly Harper book. Does she normally write contemporary romance? I know she writes a lot of funny paranormals.

I've only read one book by Linda Howard and it was Cry No More by Linda Howard . It was actually my favorite read of the year the year I read it. I'm not sure why I never read another one of hers, but I need to remedy that soon.

Angie Elle (angieelle) | 696 comments I just started Texas Destiny (Texas Trilogy, #1) by Lorraine Heath , and I love it so far!

That's a cute cover :)

message 514: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I know that D.G. has a few Linda Howard books she liked. If you come and check in girl, let us know which ones we should read :)

I think the one she recommended was Cry No More. I have a ton of Ms. Howards books, just need to read them. LOL!

I'm almost done with Old Blood (Experiment in Terror, #5.5) by Karina Halle and it's a little slower and very dark but I love getting to know Pippa aka Clown Lady. I hope to finish tomorrow.

We hit a milestone, boys sat thru a whole RiverCats game so we promised them we'd take them to Giants game... Now we've got to pay the piper. lol!

message 515: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I think DG loved Cry No More. I've only read one Linda Howard book and didn't like it Cover of Night by Linda Howard

It is good so far. I think this may be her only contemp and she should write more! It is funny. It starts off with a wife discovering her husband is unfaithful. The narration for her audio books are fantastic.

message 517: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Lol Leea. I love professional baseball games but tbh are very expensive.

message 520: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Thanks Dee! I wonder if there is a narrated version.

message 521: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments I think it just came out...I read it as an ARC, but one of my friends mentioned listening to it - Amanda Ronconi does it

message 522: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments She is great. I am going to look for it.

message 523: by Dee (new)

message 527: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments How far in are you, Regina? I read the first chapter just to see if it will fit my mood and decided that I need to continue.

message 528: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I am at the beginning, I don't want to be spoilerish but I am at the beginning She has discovered the indiscretion and taken steps .....

message 529: by Ian (last edited May 05, 2013 03:23PM) (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Both My Bluegrass Baby and and one last thing are available as audio narrated by the very talented Amanda Ronconi.

I wasn't as impressed with My Bluegrass Baby but it was still good. Much better than some of the books I've read lately. Adorkable is brilliant. Very snarky, very smart. Great fun. Loving this book.

Adorkable by Sarra Manning

I'm also reading Neanderthal Seeks Human which is very good.

Neanderthal Seeks Human A Smart Romance (Knitting in the City, #1) by Penny Reid

message 530: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Iam, I'm so glad you're liking Adorkable. It's one of my fave YAs.

I'm about 65% into One Last Thing and I'm loving it! I'm off to meet some friends & kids for an early dinner. I can't wait to get back home to read some more!!

message 531: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I have adorkable but I haven't actually read it yet. I've heard such mixed reviews, but I think it sounds like I have to boost it up my list.

message 532: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Kay I am at about the same point. I love Leftie!

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Wendy F wrote: "I have adorkable but I haven't actually read it yet. I've heard such mixed reviews..."

It's not always easy interpreting reviews...especially if they're from people you don't know well. I usually look at their average rating and if the rating is higher it's a plus...less and it's a minus.

But I also have this number in my head (3.75 Stars) and I figure anything above that is worth considering...lol, but anything above 4.5 Stars worries me, it starts to look like hype or even worse manipulation of the ratings system.

message 534: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 817 comments Adorkable showed up for me in the mail in the other day - Im going to use it for my metro book when I start my new job on Tuesday ;) - since Monday, I have to do HR stuff at the main site

I hope to start The Dex-Files (Experiment in Terror, #5.7) by Karina Halle tomorrow :)

message 537: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Hi ladies! Sorry that I've been MIA (sometimes I forget to check this thread with all the challenges and what not.)

I'm a Linda Howard fan. I don't love each and every of her books but she writes good romantic suspense. I'm talking from a mystery and romance reader perspective here...I think she finds a good balance between the two without making the plot ridiculous, which is a big problem I have with romantic suspense in general. She also writes lots of standalones so she's great when you don't want to invest in a series.

I LOVED Cry No More but the topic is very rough, specially for mothers (it deals with child abductions.) I cried for two hours straight of the audiobook (for real.)

She can also write funny romantic suspense (usually character based). I laughed a lot with these two: Mr. Perfect and Open Season.

message 538: by D.G. (last edited May 06, 2013 09:15AM) (new)

D.G. I'm reading Rising Darkness (Game of Shadows, #1) by Thea Harrison and it's getting better but so far, is very average. The beginning was very convoluted and I almost gave up on it. If I hadn't needed an audio to tie me over while I wait for my pre-order of Kiss of a Demon King, I would have dnfed it.

I'm also re-reading The Great Gatsby, which is a book I loved. I tried listening to the audio but I didn't like any of the narrations so I went back to print.

I'm also reading The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay and don't know what to think of it so far. I'm sort of getting tired of traumatized teens. Contemporary YA and New Adult seem just chock full of them.

message 539: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Happy Monday ladies! It is a rainy and gloomy day in Southern California.

I have been on a m/m rampage since last week. I have read The Landlord by Jeff Erno over the weekend as well as Beyond Complicated by Mercy Celeste and Fitting In by Silvia Violet . Great books!!

I am not reading The Tin Star (Ranch Series, #1) by J.L. Langley , which I am loving. Nothing sexier than hot, gay cowboys. Swoon!!!

message 550: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Regina, so glad you're reading the Experiment in Terror books! I can't to know what you think about the books, and especially Dex & Perry!

I needed a palate cleanser after City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4) by Cassandra Clare - I was NOT happy with that book!!!

So I picked up a couple of "quickies" - tee hee... Delicate Freakn' Flower (Freakn' Shifters, #1) by Eve Langlais and Hot Head (Head, #1) by Damon Suede . I got the 1st one for, like, 99 cents, I think. The 2nd one I saw some reference to the author somewhere (here?) and thought it sounded good. It was a really good book, IMO; very thoughtful and not all about the "steam". And really, how bad can a book about NY firefighters who happen to fall in love with one another (m/m0 be, anyway?

Into Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) by Cassandra Clare right now... hoping that I won't be disappointed. This book is dark, but it doesn't feel as heavy as "City of Fallen Angels" did; that book felt like all gloom-doom, secrets, and lies until the BIG SCENE... and then it just freaked me out. I was screaming out of frustration and ill will at the end of that book! But "Clockwork Prince" seems to be building, in a good way; I'm really hoping for a few answers in that particular 3-book arc in this book. That was my biggest beef with the 1st in the TID book - no real answers to the mystery of Tessa and what The Magister wants.
