Pat the Book Goblin I've read about 52 of those books and 12 are on my tbr pile. I'm currently on a classic fantasy/sci-fi binge. I'll read some of the newer stuff periodically throughout the year.

Nice, Patrick! Sometimes it's fun to go back and rediscover old favorites or things we missed :)

message 703: by Soo (new)

Soo (silverlyn) | 1007 comments I thought I would even out at 50% but it turns out that I've only read 81 out of 265. A good bunch are already on my TBR. Maybe that will bump them up the Read Now list. =)

Haha! Nothing like a little competition to focus the immediate tbr! I will of course be following all your reviews ;)

message 705: by Raucous (new)

Raucous | 888 comments I've read just over half of the first 100. My reading rate dropped off dramatically after that though and I ended up with 76 out of 265 (plus one DNF). There are a few other old classics that I feel that I must have read long, long ago (don't ask), but I don't remember the plots so I'll have to count those as future opportunities.

message 706: by B. (new)

B. Forrester (bforresterbooks) I haven't read many of the books on the list so far. I think that will be my Goodreads Challenge for 2019 :)

The ones I have read, I read before I joined the group, but looking over the list I found so many books I want to read.

Allison Hurd | 14234 comments Mod
Raucous, that's a great start!

B, I love that you're thinking about your 2019 challenges! We have a "Read All the Books" challenge for our bookshelf that will be back next year, so bring it!!

message 708: by Dawn F (new)

Dawn F (psychedk) | 1223 comments If I've marked everything correctly, I've read 24 books from the group shelf, which doesn't seem like a lot. A lot of books I read clearly aren't on there (like all my Star Trek novels, haha, and a lot of YA scifi from my teens) and there are a lot of classics I've missed, but there are 50 or so more on my tbr list from the group shelf, so I'll be catching up slowly :P

message 709: by Michael (new)

Michael | 153 comments I was just looking through the club bookshelf, and I see I've read about 42 of the listed titles. Most of these were not read as part of the club read, but just on my own.

I've also got another 16 on my TBR list. I better get busy reading!

Nice, Carrie!! You're on your way!

message 713: by Gaia (new)

Gaia Di Lorenzo Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. 1 so far.

message 714: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

Allison Hurd | 14234 comments Mod
Hmm...I don't think that's on our shelf, Gaia! But everyone has to start somewhere :)

Really? Weird. If I go to your group's bookshelf and I type Outlander it's there. :O. It's a fantasy after all. If I made a mistake then I don't know how to use the bookshelf properly. Please explain.

Allison Hurd | 14234 comments Mod
You can't use the search at the top, that just searches the whole site. If you use the search at the left, only books that are greyed out are the ones on the shelf--that's the search Anna and I use to add books to the shelf. You can also sort by title or author and check that way :)

message 717: by Trike (new)

Trike Bookshelf search is broken. You have to just go through it one at a time. A real PITA.

message 718: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments Yep, I usually set 200 per page listing and then sort by author, that worked great when we had less than 200 books.

I see. Thanks. Next, I'll do better. I'll post as soon as I read something. Sorry. Thanks, You could add that book on your shelf. It's a cool fantasy.

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments If all else fails, you can always try the GR list of group books or the spreadsheet.

I'll try. Thanks.

message 722: by Trike (new)

Trike Gaia wrote: "You could add that book on your shelf. It's a cool fantasy."

Books are nominated by members and then voted on by the group (mostly). It is usually based on a particular theme, so if a theme comes up that Outlander matches (like “time travel” or “Scotland” or “turned into a TV series” or whatever), you can nominate it for everyone to vote on.

If it gets the most votes, it becomes a monthly read and goes on the group bookshelf.

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments We don't like to give the mods THAT much power. They can boss us around but they have to be subtle about forcing us to read the books they want :)

I am still waiting for the poll with 4 twilight novels plus the one you really want us to read.

No problem. I figured you’d want to know how the group worked. 😜

So you're saying the Book Fairy isn't real?!?!

Everything is ruined nowwwww

message 729: by Ethan (new)

Ethan Nahté (nahteboy) | 2 comments Although I have read a lot of sci-f/fantasy, I'm only at 21 on this list. I own about a dozen of the books that are on my to-read bookshelf.

Stock up on No-Doz and Red Bull and let’s power through this!

message 731: by Jim (new)

Jim Stein (jimsteinbooks) | 22 comments Finally got around to sifting through the whole list. Only can claim to have read 59 for sure if I didn't lose count. May have hit some others of the older ones over the years as I pretty much read every SFF I could get my hands on in the late 70's and 80's.

Still, I've got some reading to do and it's great to have a list to reference!

message 732: by Ilona (new)

Ilona (Ilona-s) | 77 comments If I haven't made any mistakes, I have read 126 books now but only one book in 2018 and I have already read four of the books before they were picked for 2018. (compared to 21 books read in 2017).

I should try to add more of these books in my bookpool like last year.

message 734: by Paul (new)

Paul Jerimy (pauljerimy) | 42 comments Ouch, I've read only 7. Looks like I have some work to do!

In my defense, I joined this group this month :)

Lost Planet Airman | 766 comments Bored at lunch again, so finally tallied my Club bookshelf reads.

Shocked myself -- 138. That's actually over half way.

So, only 11 more years of reading 36 Club books a year (12 over the 24 new additions...) and I can claim to have "Read All The Books"©™®.

Allison Hurd | 14234 comments Mod
Congrats, Mike!! You're over the tipping point!

message 738: by Bruce (new)

Bruce I’ve read about 12 or 13. I’m reading another one right now, Wizard’s First Rule, by Terry Goodkind.

Allison Hurd | 14234 comments Mod
Progress! What are you thinking of it so far?

message 740: by YouKneeK (new)

YouKneeK | 1412 comments Since I don’t expect to read another book from our group shelf before the end of the year, I thought I’d report my current progress to all concerned parties. Last year I sarcastically noted that I was on track to catch up with the group shelf in 2044. I’m pleased to report that this is still the case. ;)

This year I read 31 books from the group shelf, but 2 were books I’d read previously (the Hobb books) so they didn’t affect my total. However, a couple books were added that I had already read in previous years, so I received retroactive “credit” for those. Bottom line, I’m at 43.6% now -- 119 out of the 273 books currently on our shelf.

message 741: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments I'm also at 119, although hopefully about to finish book 120 today!

message 742: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

Allison Hurd | 14234 comments Mod
Well that worked out fairly neatly, then! Nice!!

message 743: by Gabi (new)

Gabi | 3441 comments I'll start the next year with 42 (yeah) read and I mean to expand this number to 92 over the year.

message 744: by Christopher (new)

Christopher | 981 comments I'm up to 110. On my drive back from Christmas vacation I stopped by a used bookstore and was able to pick up 5 more shelf titles (for $1 each!).

message 745: by Kaa (new)

Kaa | 1548 comments I counted 65 read when I first posted on this thread in August, and 86 when I counted again recently. I've only read 5 additional books from the bookshelf since August, and there were 3 books added to the shelf that I had previously read. I think the other 13 were books that I'd read but never added to GR.

message 746: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

Allison Hurd | 14234 comments Mod

message 747: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

Allison Hurd | 14234 comments Mod
Okay, I think I counted right, but maybe not, I got distracted by the judging on GBBO. So, either I'm at 91 or maybe 87 but at least I was there when this batch made their shortbread cookies (I'm sorry, it sounds weird when I call cookies biscuits, I hardly have the right to talk about American biscuits because of my ultra Northern accent).

message 748: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments I did a recount and I'd managed to miss both Nimona and Farthest Shore (both read before they were group reads), so I'm at 122.

If I read 25.5 group books in 2019 I'll be at 50%. I should be able to manage that.

message 749: by Anthony (new)

Anthony (albinokid) | 1485 comments I’m at 57 and am currently reading Jade City, which I *may* finish by the end of the year. I was trying to get to Rosewater before the end of the year as well but I didn’t manage it.

There are some books on the group shelf that I’m not sure I’m all that interested in, but most are of interest for sure.

message 750: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments I failed a bit this year, I have been trying to stay at 90% of the books read but I didn't read about 1/2 of the club reads this year. I also missed some of the good ones like The Calculating Stars and China Mountain Zhang.
