I don't think age restrictions but how about some common sense? If you kids are acting like fools...you should take them home. If I did this in front of my parents, I would have received the STARE OF DEATH.

message 1752: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I agree Melissa. All I could think of was "That wouldn't of went down that way with my momma" I mean I don't it should have gone that far. The minute my niece starts crying in a restaurant, its time to go. You got people looking at you and getting frustrated cause they can't enjoy their meal. And to be honest, its ten at night, I'm pretty sure that 1 and 3 year old were probably tired and ready to get up out of there. And I've that some restaurants have gone as far to put up a age restriction at certain times

message 1753: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments i agree with melissa as well o_o. or try to get them to behave instead of letting them act all wild and crazy (some parents do let their kids just behave h/e they want).

message 1754: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (last edited Sep 23, 2013 03:57PM) (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Ya know I've read quite a few online articles about this sort of thing all over Yahoo. And although I'm not a fan of age restrictions of any kind when it comes to airplanes and restaurants. But I also know common sense is totally not common enough these days. So although I don't agree with the restaurant, I do see where they are coming from. Cause I know when I was that age or even a wee bit older, there would be no stare of death for me. I'd have gotten my kiddy butt whupped for sure if I ever clowned on my parents in public. Soooo was not an option.

So in general though, I think restaurants need to work with families. Don't do restrictions per se. But do have like specialty deals or something around noon to 5 for families with young kids. Like the families come in early to eat during those times they get deals and discounts on their meals. Even get put in a special family section to not disturb early eaters even then. But if folks start coming in later around 10 they will have to pay full price and maybe a young child tax or something. I know that is probably even wronger than the age restrictions per se. But to me, I think in and of itself is kind of cruel to have kids that young up and out way past their bedtime. Their little bodies need just as much rest if not more than the adults. So it's rather unfair to have them out so late like that all night.

message 1755: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments And some have even recommended putting in like a family section for diners

message 1756: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Which would be the most sensible thing in my opinion. I mean they have special sections in some places when you have a private party or something. So why not one for families with young kids?

message 1757: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Yeah I think that idea makes sense. I'd be down for that

message 1758: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments New Question: How do you feel about the new changes to the book review and member shelving policy here on Goodreads!? Check out the Goodreads Announcements for more information

message 1759: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I would have to say it is about time. And since they are going to delete shelves too if it looks like it is in the negative, I would hope folks that are super anal about their shelves, had better get to changing them up while they can.

message 1760: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t | 180 comments I think its a violation of everyone's privacy and right to speech. It's convincing me I should start my own blog. I don't bash the author and I don't think anyone should but I also don't think we should be censored for thinking the way we do. My thoughts on this editing policy are not kind at all. If Amazon wants only certain things to be said about certain books then they need to provide a form that you can select the words they want for a review instead of the freeform that exists today. A reader may feel let down by the author for whatever reason and that may need to be said - not necessarily in the book review but maybe it should be said elsewhere.
We need to respect the different opinions that people have and that is not to say that anyone should be bullied, browbeaten, demeaned or disrespected by other readers or the powers of GR.
Is it just me or is the behavior that is frowned upon for GR members to exhibit the same behavior being utilized to streamline our shelves and reviews?

message 1761: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments to be honest i agree with what tumblr has said on something similar. being able to say w/e we want doesnt mean we have to be mean about it. common curtsy should be used. unless in those rare situations where things have to go beyond that. i didnt realize how bad some ppl got on reviews until it was pointed out to me. ppl could say bad and good things in a review imo but just do it without lashing out like a kid. and sorry for for responding so late rofl. i meant to before but got sidetracked and remembered when i got a notification for the question of the day x.x. and i agree with what sis said lol.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments New Question: What do you order or not order at a restaurant you have been to or never been to?

message 1763: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 1747 comments it depends on what restaurant it is. usually a sandwich or a plate.

message 1764: by Bożena (new)

Bożena (bozi) | 570 comments hmm usually spaghetti bolognese or dish which is called pierogi, it's something like ravioli but it's bigger

message 1765: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Bożena wrote: "hmm usually spaghetti bolognese or dish which is called pierogi, it's something like ravioli but it's bigger"

Pierogi is SOOO very good! Not found in many restaurant here in the states but there are a few.

message 1766: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments It really depends on the place and why/who i am with. I usually try to avoid the same thing. Generally it is hamburger, breakfast (yes for dinner too), steak, pasta...

message 1767: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Without fail, rather I'm familiar with the restaurant or not. I'm going to order/get something with chicken or seafood. As I guess it is a bit of an unwritten rule somewhere that you can't readily mess either of those choices up too much.

As for what I don't order, I would have to say probably pasta, chicken, and any type of cakes. Although I love those things normally. I just don't think everyone can cook that stuff to my personal liking all that well. Like if it's BBQ chicken, the chicken might taste good but the sauce on it, might be too sweet or too hot and I don't really finish the meal. Or with cakes, some can be really awesome, and then others can have too much sugar in the icing or the cake itself is just too dry. So totally glad my folks opt into going to buffets. Can get what you want easily and avoid most other stuff as well.

Oh awesome, my mom loves pierogies. What is the Spaghetti Bolognese like? I've heard of it, but never had it.

it's pasta with mincemeat and tomatoe sauce, it's tasty but I've never eaten in real Italian restaurant.

message 1770: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments Just been out this afternoon to our fav restaurant before hitting the movie theatre (White House down) and had something I had never ordered before. I used to order all the time the same stuff I know, so I can't be disappointed but now I am getting better in trying something new. Had Pollo Funghi today. Was ok. Usually we have Spaghetti con Pollo or I go for Saltimbocca. A few weeks ago I had a kangaroo steak. That was yummie.

message 1771: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments New Question- Ever donated a organ, blood, eggs, or sperm(for the gents in the group)? If you haven't do you want to? What if you were in desperate situation and you needed the money? Or if your family member came to you, that was experiencing infertility issues and didn't want to use a stranger's eggs or sperm?

message 1772: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments I donated blood once, I can't do it anymore. And at one point I did research on donating eggs but I know nothing about my biological dad or his family medical history which is pivotal in donating eggs. You have to have your medical history and your family's medical history. Also there are some serious health risks in getting your eggs removed that I didn't wanna chance

message 1773: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Sorry if this is too personal to ask. But why can't you give blood any more Shari? And that is definitely true for sure on the egg donation stuff. I think it is roughly the same for sperm too.

message 1774: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Underweight. You have to weigh a certain amount to give blood but I have hyperthyroidism so my metabolism is jacked

message 1775: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh ok. I can't stand needles so I have never actually donated any blood. And I personally I just feel funny about the thought of donating my eggs. Wouldn't feel comfortable having someone else, raising a part of me and I'm not part of it beside the DNA factor.

message 1776: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Very true. I kept thinking about that but I don't plan on having children and I def don't wanna raise any but I love em. Thought it would be cool to give my eggs to someone who actually wanted or needed them.

message 1777: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments I think I want at least one kid one day. But even if I didn't. I guess I'm just not as matured or as evolved to lend something like that. I can give money all day. But I would hate to think a part of me is getting beat by somebody or something. I'm paranoid that way.

message 1778: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Nothing paranoid about it. I think thats something people when they start to consider donating eggs or sperm. My sister thinks i'll change my mind about kids. I won't. She even offered to be my surrogate mother if I did. She loved being pregnant, she doesn't understand why anyone wouldn't wanna experience that *rolls eyes*

message 1779: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh nothing wrong with that at all. Not everyone is meant to have kids. Just I beg of you, my Shari berry, please remain the awesome level headed person that I know and love. As I've chatted with a few other childfree by choice peeps were honestly as whiny and complaining worse than 5 year old themselves. >_< Not saying it is everyone's mindset like that. But just reading some of the commentary seemed like they lost some adult rationale about most things and wanted to be the center of attention.

message 1780: by Bożena (new)

Bożena (bozi) | 570 comments I would like to donate my blood but I can't, I'm also underweight. I want to have 2 children, if I had a son I would name him Julian Alexander, it sounds so epic lol. But on the other hand, I'm afraid of labour and pain. I have to take strong painkillers every month and wonder if a childbirth can be worse. Yeah, I'm rather altruistic but I wouldn't give sb my eggs, I'm also paranoid.

message 1781: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Haha! I know you mean, Cherale. I know some people get downright offended if you mention something along the lines of how awesome it is to have kids and everyone should do it.

I'm also afraid of the pain, Bozena. I've witnessed two childbirths. A cousin's nurse didn't insert the tube for the epidural right and had to go with natural. She asked me to hold her hand, that was a mistake. She almost broke my fingers. No exaggeration.

message 1782: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Oh yea, I've come across a few of those as well. To which all I can say to each their own. And to have a somewhat thicker skin, cause saying everyone should or shouldn't have kids is one of the LEAST offensive things you can be told in your life.

I agree, the pain has definitely got to be immense. But I'm willing to look beyond that, to the squalling new mini me and the boyfriend/hubs one day. Or for that matter sperm donor lol.

message 1783: by Katie (new)

Katie (skateanddonate) | 31 comments I can't give blood either. Been an insulin dependent diabetic for 35+ years and since I use syringes outside of a medical facility they won't let me donate blood. Too bad, because i could use some cash for donating plasma.

message 1784: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Agree. I think people get way too defensive over it. For some reason the topic of kids is a sensitive subject. I can understand why it would be for a select few. Those unable to have kids themselves.

Ah yes once its all over, its a beautiful thing. Swear I've never seen people so happy when they first get to hold their child....as long as I don't have to actually witness another birth. lol I wouldn't make it as a midwife

message 1785: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) I have donated blood, however I have since started donating platelets. I have no problem donating a organ to a family member if I am a match. That was a question I had to answer when my mom needed a kidney transplant.

message 1786: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Why would that be an issue though? Don't most diabetics inject their own insulin or no?

message 1787: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Shari-amor wrote: "Agree. I think people get way too defensive over it. For some reason the topic of kids is a sensitive subject. I can understand why it would be for a select few. Those unable to have kids themselve..."

Yea, true. I can get it for the select few.

Haha, yea, the watching of it can totally change any one's lives lol. I know for sure I wouldn't make it as a midwife either. Heck seeing someone's broken limbs at a wrong angle make me rather queasy.

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments New Question: What was the last lie you have said? And to who/what was it about?

message 1789: by Manuela (new)

Manuela (manu21) | 2559 comments old question: I used to donate blood on a regular basis, but then I got sick and had to take antibiotics. That meant I had to stop for at least 4 weeks after I last taken medication (time for the body to discharge the incrediences). Then they needed blood and kept asking if I could come in. To make sure that everything was alright they checked my blood and then sent me off to see the haematologist because my red blood cells were out. I did freak out, thought something serious was wrong with me. No, the haematologist calmed me down and said unfortunately my blood was reacting to that clear stuff that is in the vial for a certain reason and was clotting too fast so when the lab people finally got to my blood and counted the red cells, they had all clotted and therefore were not enough to be able to donate. I had a chat with the blood donation centre manager and he told me that just in case something would go wrong with a recipient of my blood they were looking at shitloads of paperwork to explain, why they accepted my blood. That's why I don't donate anymore.

new question: lies of omission, almost any day of my life. All the other lies I will not disclose without my lawyer/solicitor present. ;) ~grin~

message 1790: by Ora (new)

Ora (oeamis) Lying is something that I do my best to avoid. There are been a few times that I have lied to my children, however at the time I didn't think it was exactly wrong. If it is to get your children to behave or keep their innocence a little longer. The two I remember most is when we lived in California and my boys always thought it was funny to hide from me when we got tulle fog (think of the movie The Fog if you're do not what tulle fog is). I finally got angry with having to round them up and told them that when the fog comes that it's werewolf season and they will be eaten if they don't stay with me. My babysitter was with me at the time and howled and scared the daylight's out of my boys. After that I never had a problem with them running off.
The other, is when my oldest was in first grade, he came home from school devasted because an older boy told him Santa doesn't exist and parents are the ones who buys gifts. I told him Santa does exist and the only reason why that kids parents had to buy gifts was because he was so bad that Santa would not give him anything. My son was happy about with the explanation and no one could tell him Santa did not exist for several years.

message 1792: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (rie10) | 166 comments Shari-amor wrote: "I plead the fifth...."

Or just drink a fifth? LOL Sorry, had to be said. That is my usual answer as well. however...

In answer to the question, i don't know. Proably saying i was busy becuase i was being lazy and did not want to go somewhere (or was just tired after work and decided it could wait).

message 1793: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments LOL, great answers ladies. Hmm, I would have to say that I'm usually one for the lies of omissions a bit myself. But mostly when it comes down to how much I've spent on video games. Particularly when someone wants to borrow money from me for something. Games are pricey and kind of hate to admit I spent a ton of money on a singular item.

message 1794: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments lol!! I'll take a fifth of tequila. Yum!

New Question: Do you have a favorite smoothie place? Whats your favorite smoothie!?

message 1795: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Mmmm, I do. I love strawberry banana ones. We did have some Yoplait ones but given how they got buried in our freezer, never got to try that version. But we tend to make our own in the blender. So that is a real go to flavor for us.

message 1796: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Y'all make your on smoothies!? I'm coming over!!

message 1797: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Yea, around this time of the year. As momz doesn't like too much milk during the summer. And we have the nice glasses to put it in too. Very delish.

message 1798: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments So jealous. I normally just head over to Jamba Juice and get a Skittles Smoothie. In Va, I use to work at Tropical Smoothie so I know I can make my own. Yum. I loved playing with the ingredients. Strawberries, pineapples, lime, oranges and I'd add in sprite or sierra mist.

message 1799: by Dhfan4life, Honey Bun (new)

Dhfan4life | 10411 comments Now you have me jealous. I've only ever heard of a Jamba Juice in movies. Don't think I've even heard of the Tropical one. That is really cool on putting the sodas in there too. Didn't even realize you could do it that way as well.

message 1800: by Shari-amor, Doll Cake (new)

Shari-amor | 5275 comments Only a little soda for flavor. And you have to use fruits with lots of juice or otherwise it'll stall the blender cause the soda dries the smoothie up
