Mariab | 3059 comments Yesterday I couldn't sign in in GR. All I got was a page which says: An error has occurred... That, plus the impossibility to instal the app in my smartphone...
I'm being labeled as "persona non grata" in GR...?

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) You weren't alone, my notifications went crazy yesterday, especially in the app.

Joan Sandra thank you for a good laugh! and the warning on goodreads recomendations.

Joan Stephanie, why are there love signs, all over Virginia? Are they a temporary art display?

message 2255: by Joan (new)

Joan chicken owners can you use all that poo as nitrogen rich fertilizer?

Visit all of them is a great plan.

Have to compost it first, as it is too intense otherwise and burns the plants, but yes indeedy!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments That's exactly why I ran that Goodreads Recommends challenge. I just wanted to know if anyone ever got decent recommendations out of them.

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I had the most unsettling dream last night. I dreamt that I was working in my office when I heard someone knocking on my patio door. I got up from my desk and headed to see who was at the door. When I got to the living room, it was dark and my ex-husband was standing there. I felt great confusion and even fear. I said, "How did you get in? What are you doing here?" He took a few steps towards me, arms outstretched, and said, "Jan..." I woke up startled and alarmed. I still feel unsettled.

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments Beautiful pictures, Stephanie!

Winter has arrived in Mississippi as well. At least for a few days. The temperature was 20F (about -6C) this morning. I just can't explain how much I hate cold weather! Thankfully it'll be warming back up a little bit later in the week. In the meantime, I'm staying inside near a heat source as much as possible!

Thank you :-)

It has gotten colder here as well overnight but warms up to the 50s and 60s (C) during the day. Finally had to turn the heat on.

message 2269: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I phoned my ex this morning just to ease my mind that everybody was okay and that nobody died during the night. I know that sounds funny, but the look on his face in the dream was the same look he had when he told me a close friend had committed suicide. I didn't tell him what the dream was, just that I'd had a bad dream and then asked after his mother. He had no dire news about anyone. I still feel unsettled.

message 2270: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments That's a terrible feeling, Janice. Good to know that your ex didn't have any bad news for you.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments Dialogue with my 6 years old during dinner:

He: I know how much is 14+7.
Me: How much is it?
He: 21
Me: Wow! How did you know? Did you use your fingers to count?
He: No. I don't have enough fingers.

message 2272: by Stephanie (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Lol Thanks all. I have had it linked on Facebook a lot too. As I have one of the older girls in a chicken bra (crop sling) at the moment, and she HATES it, I have no idea how they got 5 chickens to stand still for 5 secs for a photo with these on.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments I wish my nephews were too, Stephanie! They are not little ones anymore, though. 15 and 17 years old. Where time goes?

Kids can say the most crazy things in the most natural way! I live that.
He is a funny character, my son. Actually is amazing the way he explained how he "got" the 21. It was something like: "I have 14 and 7. I take away 4 from the 14, so I have 10. I add 10 so I have 20. I add the 4, so I have 24. I subtract 3, because the 10 I used is 3 bigger than the 7. And that's it, I got 21".
I was like :o

message 2279: by Tasha (new)

Tasha I would have just used my fingers to get to 21... ;)

That is a cute, Sandra. What a fun age. Enjoy!

message 2280: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Ahh common core math. When started on it from the beginning they do fine. I can't do it. You're son understands it oerfectly Sandra.

message 2281: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments The crazy thing is that it comes to him naturally. What he is doing at school right now (his in 1st) is additions with 3 addends, and two, and always doubles plus one more to make it easier. I mean: 4+4+3, or 5+5+2. So nothing to do!

message 2283: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Time goes so fast, Sandra :( I have 6 nephews, no nieces. They range from 3 years-12 years old! My sister lives near Seattle and I haven't seen her boys in almost 2 years :( she doesn't send pics so thank goodness for Facebook :) we got to see one of my SILs boys when we were in Spokane in October though :)

Oh that math hurts my head too! Why does math have to be so complicated? I just count on my fingers, I like the simple ways to do math :)

message 2284: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I've had several phone calls today from a funny number. Most of them failed to connect, but the last two connected to an agent. I was informed that my computer was sending error messages. I told him that I knew they were a scam and to quit calling, and hung up.

The last one the conversation went like this:
A: I am calling from Windows Headquarters Technical Department and we have been getting error messages from your computer.
Me: Which computer, I have two.
A: Your Windows computer.
Me: Both of my windows are Apple computers. (They're not, but he doesn't know that.)
A: That's fine Ma'am. We are getting messages from both computers.
Me: Um, my computers aren't Microsoft computers; they're Apple.
A: I'm not calling from Microsoft. I'm calling from Windows.
Me: Apple computers don't run Windows.
A: Doesn't matter, we are getting serious error messages from Windows.
Me: You know what... I know that you are a scam, trying to scam me out of some money. If I get one more phone call from your company, I will call the RCMP.

He'd hung up before I finished. Do people really fall for this crap?

message 2285: by Sandra, Moderator (last edited Nov 25, 2015 12:44PM) (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11261 comments We had two of those in the last 3 or 4 months, Janice. When I asked what kind of error, they wouldn't say, just insist that something really wrong was going on with my computer. I just answered: "Oh! Ok, thank you very much for let me know", and hung up... They are really crap.

message 2286: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments You'd think if they were going to scam they'd get their facts straighter.

message 2287: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments So many people fall for that, especially older people. I worked at the customer service of the dutch state lottery for a while and once got a phonecall from a man asking about his money. He had gotten an email from the lottery (scam obviously) that if he payed several thousand euros he would get much more in return. He believed it and transferred the money... so sad :(

message 2288: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments I got a 3rd agent calling, and this time I simply said, "You are the third agent from your company who I've spoken with today. I know that you are a scam...." He interrupted with "Right right right right - go fuck yourself!" And hung up. When they start swearing at you like that, you know it's fraud.

So, I've been on the phone to the RCMP and the anti-fraud unit, and have filed a complaint. Looking back at caller ID, I've had NINE phone calls from this company today. What a waste of time.

It really bugs me that it's seniors who fall for this type of fraud. The problem is that they are so hard to track down. I'm just one more complainant with no more information than, "I've been harassed."

message 2289: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Annoying Janice! I wish more could be done about those people.

message 2290: by Lisa (last edited Nov 25, 2015 03:07PM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments That is so annoying Janice! More needs to be done about people like that. A similar thing happened to me over the summer. I kept getting calls on my iPhone from some 'company' that were trying to sell me software to counter a virus that my computer was supposed to have (which it didn't). In the end, I threatened to report them to the police if they called me again. Haven't heard from them since! :D

message 2291: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I'm sorry that happened Janice. Is there a way to block the number from your phone? I hope they stop calling. I had a scammer call the other day saying I requested information about college (which I didn't since I'm currently in school). I asked how she got my phone number and she hung up on me. Definitely a scam when they hang up on you!

message 2292: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Wow, Janice, that's really something. Extremely frustrating!

message 2293: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Nov 25, 2015 09:25PM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59890 comments Shortly after I last posted, I got another call but this one failed to connect. That made 10 calls today. I phoned my telephone provider and while I was on the phone with him, another call - the 11th - came in. He gave me instructions on how to block the calls even though I don't have a phone number to program in. Apparently a # will revert to the last number that called in. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Lexx had a friend who did that, and the guy played along, and it went on for a few minutes of the friend "trying" to work out the right computer.

It ended up with the scammer yelling "THE CLOSEST ONE! QUICK! TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!!!" and the friend pissing himself laughing and the guy hanging up.

As to if any one gets caught, I know some friends who have had parents nearly get caught by it. But they must be rare.

Stephanie Whew! Talk about getting the heart racing this morning! Took Blake out to do his business and a visiting dog (off leash) came barking and charging around the corner at us! I yelled at it to stay and it did. Blake was not happy about that dog :( its person came around the corner, leashed it up and apologized. Dogs are supposed to be leashed on the grounds but there are a few people who do not follow that rule :( I wouldn't care if Blake wasn't such a jerk to other dogs :( we are working on it :)
If I say anything to the leasing office in regards to the unleashed dogs, they don't do anything except send out a memo which is really all they can do I guess.
