Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments You are in luck Sarah that is exactly what he says

message 2352: by Kandice (new)

Kandice He certainly tells Christmas to go to Hell! I can understand his sentiments if not the pimply butts. O_o

message 2353: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yes. I was listening to it and when that line came up i laughed out loud and had to pause the video while I recovered. I got a funny look from my partner. Thanks Travis for sharing. It cheered me up no end. :-)

message 2354: by Joan (new)

Joan Some mega home displays set up a local radio station to play music linked to their dancing Santa or Nativity Scene camels. Causes big traffic jams in some neighborhoods around here, not mine thankgoodness!

message 2355: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments We don't have major traffic jams, but it is inconvenient when people stop directly in front of the house across the street, because they block our driveway and it can be hard to get out at times.

message 2356: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Well, my Christmas Tree is up, as are the outside lights. Though my frozen hands dropped our icicle lights and severed the cord, so those got tossed. I decided to do a "Traditional" German/American Christmas Tree in honor of my father. I have a few German ornaments, and thought it wouldn't take much if I found one of those short, narrow, trees. Went to Fred Meyer and they didn't have much of anything interesting for Christmas. Who knows how much they had starting Friday, but I couldn't even find any clip on electric candles.

message 2357: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I miss Fred Meyer! My grandparents live in WA and they go all the time.

message 2358: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments That's good to hear Aaron. I hope you have recovered well. We've talked about fears and phobias on here a number of times. I used to be scared of needles but I overcome it about 5 years ago which is a great relief. I had a routine blood test last week and thought nothing of it - it's made a huge difference to my life no longer having that fear.

I'm in less of a bah humbug mood today so I need to get some work done around the boat. Desperate for it to look more homely. It's out boat anniversary in 19 days. I can't believe we've had it that long already. Time certainly flies.

message 2359: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Happy boataversary!

Glad you're in a better mood. I had a rubbish day at work so glad someone's woken up feeling better. There is hope for me tomorrow.

Glad your surgery went well Aaron. I can understand the feeling (wisdom teeth for me a few years ago), and it's awesome when you overcome it.

message 2360: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Love boataversary so I am definitely going to be using that term now! :-) I hope you have a better day at work tomorrow.Have a glass of wine. Now, not when you go to work tomorrow although that might make for an interesting day in the office ;-)

message 2361: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I've never had any kind of surgery (unless you count pulling out two wisdom teeth under local anesthetic at the dentist). *knock on wood*
Doing something is indeed a good way to overcome fears. Not always easy though, unless you have no choice.

Wow Sarah, a year already? Time flies! Is it still as good as you hoped it to be one year ago? (Thinking of your positive posts regarding boat life, I think I know the answer already :) )

message 2362: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments I dunno... at work would probably do wonders!

I actually really want this mug for work:

Sarah | 18550 comments Love the mug!

Yes it's all I'd hoped for. I love living on a boat. It is hard work though. There are a lot of things I used to take for granted living in a flat and never thought about them but these things take a up a big part of our life now (getting water, generating power and ensuring we have enough to run things, emptying waste tank, getting coal and wood for stove). Everything takes longer to do on a boat and quite often requires good weather when doing diy to allow for ventilation and extra working space. This means we haven't got quite as much done as we'd have liked but it's all good. We still lack storage space so we have a lot of those stacking boxes. A lot of our trinkets and things are still packed away as we have no surfaces to put them on which is why it's not as homely as I'd like. We're designing a bit of furniture at the moment.

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I was aiming for Dec 1st to upload the 2016 challenge but a day spent up at the hospital yesterday kyboshed my plans. I hope to review everything tonight. The medication and pain killers they have me on both cause drowsiness, so I can't promise that I won't fall asleep.

Funny you should mention gallbladder Aaron because for a while they were investigating that yesterday. But they've ruled it out so no surgery for me thank goodness. I don't have time for that.

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Sorry to hear you have been unwell Janice. I hope you feel better soon! What a relief that you don't need to have surgery!

No worries about the challenge, it can wait. Getting yourself better is much more important :)

Lynda | 836 comments Glad to hear your surgery went well, Aaron. And, I'm sorry to hear you've been unwell, Janice. Echoing others, no worries about the challenge, just take care of yourself!

I too used to have a fear of needles, but being anemic since the age of 15, I had to get over it. It took a really good nurse who made it painless.

I'm not going in to the office today, I need to get caught up on a few things here; I have some paperwork to audit, but I can do that in my living room.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Great mug, Rusalka.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well Janice.

Hi Aaron. Glad for you that your GB surgery went well. I had mine out many years ago and ended up back in the hospital less than a week after (pain, nausea - just like before the GB was gone). I did not need any more surgery, just had to stay until they could put a scope down my throat and check things out. That part was actually kind of cool, and I got to watch it. They figured that a tiny stone had gone wandering and finally burst through the valve where it was stuck.

Back to work today after 7 days off. Soooo much email.

message 2375: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Thanks everyone. I'm feeling better than yesterday, but still having lots of pain. I'm struggling to get a GST deadline done for today and once that is done, I'm headed to bed.

My grandson is going to take his driver's test. He's going to borrow my car Wed and Fri for a couple of test runs to get used to the car and then he's going to take his test on Saturday. All of it will be supervised by his dad. Just don't snow between now and then!

message 2376: by Sarah (new)

My fingers are crossed for my car. LOL!

Nah, just kidding. I hope he does well and passes on his first attempt (unlike my son who sat the test a few times).

message 2378: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Ah! Good point. I'm guessing you wouldn't be lending it to him if you thought he was crap ;-)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments It just boggles my mind that I have a grandson who will be turning 17 on Jan 1st. Where did the time fly?

So far I don't have grandchildren, but when my youngest child got her license it felt like a new era! Good luck to him.

Feel Better!

message 2381: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments It feels like the grandkids have birthdays faster than our own children, doesn't it though, Janice? They grow up in a blink. One minute playing with stuffed animals and wearing Spider-Man PJs and the next minute taking their driver's test.

message 2382: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Sorry to hear that Janice! Rest up and feel better. Hope the grandson is bringing you supplies in return for borrowing your car!

message 2383: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I have my PhD defense in exactly two weeks from now. I was quite relaxed about it for the last couple of weeks (although without exaggerating it was on my mind constantly), but now I'm starting to slightly freak out. I think I'm driving my bf crazy!

I have a 'practice defense' with colleagues on Thursday and I keep telling myself to wait with freaking out until I know how the practice one went, but it's not helping so far.

message 2384: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Good luck Peggy! I am sure you will do an amazing job.

I know it is hard but try not to worry about it too much.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments Oh, Peggy... all of this is part of the PhD thingy. :) Don't worry. Everybody goes through this. You are gonna excel, I'm sure!

message 2386: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Good luck, Peggy, maybe you can just get the freaking out over with now, so that you'll be calmer during the actual event.

Lol Sandra, that's an interesting take on the movie!

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I've been lurking a little on YLTO the past week or so, but just haven't had a lot of time for posting and I'm just now catching up on the 100 or so posts in this thread. I hope everyone (that celebrated here) had a great Thanksgiving and avoided the crazies on Black Friday. I hope everyone that has been sick or simply grumpy is feeling much better now.

Peggy, maybe after the practice defense is over you will be less worried about the real defense. I'm sure you will do great!

Sandra, that is a great synopsis of The Wizard of Oz!

Lynda | 836 comments We just found out that my niece's husband, Bernie, suffered a stroke. He's been rushed by paramedics to a hospital in Seattle, he's only 45. We have amazing health care and emergency services here in the Seattle area, so we're hopeful he will be okay. It's very scary right now.

message 2396: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments How scary, Lynda. 45 does seem young for a stroke. Hopefully, with his age, he'll recover quickly.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments That is bad news Lynda hope it works out. I've always thought I would prefer a mild heart attack versus a mild stroke. Actually I'd prefer neither. Hopefully it is just a mild stroke with little remaining effects after though

message 2400: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments What I had popped in about was I just sat down and looked at my hands and said yeah clean enough to eat. Then I went to grab my Bazaar of Bad Dreams book. Stopped looked at my hands. Yeah I better wash them before touching my book. Not sure what that says about me if my hands need to be cleaner to touch a book than my food.
