What Are You Reading and Why? 2015 second half

Tonight, I will start The Bone Clocks for my real life book club.

I love David Mitchell and really liked The Bone Clocks. I'm just finishing up his newest- Slade House. So far it's been a perfect Halloween book.

I also started The Street Lawyer by John Grisham, which I added instead of Rogue Lawyer. Mixed the two up, but actually thought The Street Lawyer sounded more interesting.

The Princess Bride is one of my favorite, favorite movies. I loved the book!

I didn't like the book, but I loved the movie. I've watched it with each of my kids and my heart broke when the first two- boys- hated it. Inconceivable!!! My daughter loved it, though.
I don't know if the book will stick, but since it's close to Halloween, I'm starting The Witches: Salem, 1692 by Stacy Schiff.
I'm done with my 2015 Goodreads Challenge of 404 books. Right now, I'm at 406 books finished and about 130,000 pages read.

I'm curious about your Witches book. It looks interesting. Let us know what you think when you finish.

For humor I love David Sedaris. I would recommend When You Are Engulfed in Flames or Me Talk Pretty One Day. He is gay and does talk about that, so heads up.
For YA I highly recommend The Gemma Doyle Trilogy starting with A Great and Terrible Beauty.
Good luck!

I also meant to mention that Neil Gaiman has a new YA book, The Sleeper and the Spindle.

I am going to start that book today too, I just picked it up from the library .

I'm now reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky.

So far, the author is just "setting the stage"- just describing the society, environment, etc. Which she does quite well. But she says something disturbing; that there isn't a lot of factual information about the trials. So what's she going to write about and how much will be her speculation? (Granted it'll be informed guess work, but still...)

Thanks for the recommendations, Pam. A Great and Terrible Beauty has been on my TBR, and I'm currently waiting (impatiently) for Neverwhere from the library. So, I went with David Sedaris - 14 CD Boxed Set, which I won't complete in time, but since the individual audio books were already checked out, I'll pick and choose from this one. (And, I have zero issues with homosexuality, so no worries there).

Thanks, Lynda. About the Sedaris- in general, I guess I like Sedaris. But I can only handle him in small doses. I've never read a book of his straight through or even in a few days. More like reading a story/essay, taking a break, then reading another one. It's sometimes taken me months to finish one of his book. One of those authors who can be delightful in small doses.

So do I Sandra. I find some books can get away with leaving things unexplained but this wasn't one of them sadly. It was still a good book but it could have been a favourite if certain things had been explained. I might have to reread it one day to see if things become clearer the second time around.

This sounds very interesting Lisa. Added to my TBR.

I've of course heard of Sedaris, but never read anything of his. Mostly just know of him from the it's exaggeration/no it's a lie scandal. I'm not sure how I feel about him, yet. On the one hand, the beginning of Me Talk Pretty One Day was amusing, nit laugh-out loud or anything, but amusing. But the audio switched to a live recording of him reading all about the dead animals of his childhood, which is pushing me towards irritation. That might be the crowd though, who is laughing at ever pause, like a laugh track on a sitcom. Also, I'm pretty sensitive to animals dying in any media. I'll give it a bit more, I might just be in a mood.

Lynda, I hit the same block when reading "Me Talk Pretty One Day"- I still resent having to read The Yearlingin junior high over 40 years ago.

I am revisiting Louise Fitzhugh's books from my childhood. I picked up Harriet the Spy, The Long Secret, and Sport from the library tonight. I have read the first one but did not know about the other two until rrsearching for the series challenge.

I finally finished The Secret History of Wonder Woman. Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I had no idea there was a graphic novel of 'Jane Eyre'! Added to my wishlist.

There is a 'Wuthering Heights' graphic novel too apparently. Another addition to my wishlist :)
Really Lisa? Think I will have to check that out.

One of the best books ever! So sad, but so good

Now, on to the ridiculous, The Fate of Ten, simply to finish the series and collect my 65 points, thank you very much. I have very low expectations for this book.

I didn't Joan and so gutted!! Maybe it will come out again.

Anna, I am hoping the same thing - my first reaction on seeing the title was how absurd but the critical reviews were very good.

I am currently reading I Am Pilgrim as it was recommended to me by a friend at work and I picked it up at the library last week. I am about 300 pages in and really enjoying it so far. It is fast paced and centres around the time of 9/11 and the war in the Middle East.

I have really enjoyed the Temeraire books. It is so hard to not blow through them! I don't want them to be over. I have only listened to the audio books, so I don't know how they are in pri..."
That's good to know, Cherie, I'll add it to the TBR. I really enjoyed Novik's writing and her world building in Uprooted.
I haven't seen The Princess Bride in a long, long time. It was such a fun story. I've been wanting to read the book, but never got around to it.
