I just noticed that Luke Daniels is narrating it. I like him as a narrator. I'll be starting it once I finish reading threads.

Sounds good, Cherie. I've always liked Kate Mulgrew on Voyager, and I thought she did a fabulous job narrating NOS4A2, so I can imagine she did a great job of narrating her own memoir.

message 1203: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4528 comments I finished Serpent's Tooth and just have to finish The Chase and I'll be done with Level 8 of the Year Long Challenge. I'd like to get in one last book before the year ends.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments You can do it, Roz!!!!

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Re Kate Mulgrew. I have NOS4A2 on my 2016 challenge list. Can't wait to listen to her again!
I have some great audio books that I gave been saving to listen to, including Brilliance, A Prayer for Owen Meanie, Outlander#5 and The Android's Dream. My grandson is waiting for me to knit his blue hat too. He picked out the yarn and has been waiting patiently. He wants socks too. ^_^

Re: Brilliance... I started listening to it today and I think I'm going to really like it.

message 1210: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished The Book of Christmas: Everything We Once Knew and Loved About Christmastime which I rated 4 stars. It contained some really interesting facts about Christmas and the festive period and was an entertaining read.

I am now starting The Santa Klaus Murder. I read another of these British Library Crime Classics, Mystery in White, earlier in the year and really liked it so I thought I would read another one.

message 1211: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I finished Trail of Broken Wings yesterday for the December challenge. I was expecting to really like it, but it was just a 2 stars for me.

I'm reading now Seven Ways We Lie for the white covers theme. It's a YA, a genre I don't read very often, but so far so good. Let's see.

Kristie | 19139 comments Sandra wrote: "I finished Trail of Broken Wings yesterday for the December challenge. I was expecting to really like it, but it was just a 2 stars for me."

That's disappointing. I recently picked this up when it was on sale on Audible. I was hoping it would be better than that.

message 1213: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments My main issue with it is that it pretends to be a character driven story, and the characters are not deep enough for that.
I never though in stop reading it, though.

message 1217: by Cherie (last edited Dec 22, 2015 02:18AM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Yeah, I found it through the book title. I have never heard of this singer. I will have to look her up.

edited: Dec 22. Re Edith Piaf - Too bad Dem didn't like the book much, but I had to come back and say that I had a great time listening to her music tonight via You Tube!

message 1218: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I finished The Gray and Guilty Sea. I really liked this murder mystery. The story was excellent, plus it was a free kindle book on Amazon :) of course it is part of a series though! I will probably read the other books in the series. I'd like to see where the characters go from the first book.

message 1219: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments Finally finished Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World for the monthly/buddy read. I really liked it, but it took me longer to get through it than I'd anticipated. I'm having that problem though this month, my mind must be slow this month.

I'm going to pick up A Darker Shade of Magic for the monthly challenge, and also continue with Casually Cursed, my pop-corn, fluff of a serial killer book.

message 1220: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finished Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man which was a very sweet story. I'm going to continu with the last 600 pages of A Breath of Snow and Ashes next.

message 1221: by Cherie (last edited Dec 22, 2015 02:29AM) (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I finished After Alice yesterday and Mr. Maguire made it to my list of least favorite books for the year. No more of his books for me.

I also finished listening to The Thirteen-Gun Salute. This is #13 in the Aubrey/Maturin series, narrated by my guy, Simon Vance.

I guess I will start An Object of Beauty by Steve Martin for the Group read. I've had it on my TBR list since 2012, since I bought it.

I"m sure your friend hears a lot of advice but I'll offer some anyway. About 3 years ago I found transcendental mediation and it's probably the best thing I've ever done for myself. I'm saying this bc this type of meditation has a lot of success with ptsd and they use it a lot with veterans. He would probably really benefit from this. He could check it out on youtube and see what he thinks. PTSD is such a hard thing for these veterans, I really feel for them.

Tasnime | 1 comments Currently reading Catch Me if You Can by Frank W. Abagnale

message 1225: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished The Santa Klaus Murder which I rated 3 stars. It was an enjoyable, old-school murder mystery and a nice, quick read but I preferred Mystery in White which I read earlier in the year.

I am now going to start Florence and Giles.

message 1226: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'll be curious what you think of Florence and Giles, Lisa. I quite liked it.

message 1227: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I finished Divergent. I really liked it. It was a fast and easy read and I'm looking forward to the next book!

message 1228: by Tasha (new)

Tasha Sarah wrote: "I'll be curious what you think of Florence and Giles, Lisa. I quite liked it."

I'm curious too. I haven't read it though and thought I had it on my tbr but it's not there. The cover looks spooky.

Doesn't it just! Hopefully the story itself will be just as spooky.

Oh, that does look/sound creepy, and good. The synopsis has hints of Flowers in the Attic around the edges.

Roz | 4528 comments I finished The Chase knocking off Level 8 of the Year Long Series Challenge. Now I'm reading The Girl on the Train.

message 1234: by Janice, Moderator (last edited Dec 24, 2015 07:01AM) (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I finished The Poisoned Pilgrim, book 4 in The Hangman's Daughter series. This is a good book for the pilgrim task in the geocache challenge. The only problem is that you would need to read the first 3 books in the series to get the background story and the characters.

I started book 5, The Werewolf of Bamberg which will kill that series and level 9 of the challenge. Yeah!

I'm still working on Brilliance. I doubt that I will get much listening in now that my dad is here and with all the Christmas activities.

message 1235: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19139 comments Janice- do the previous books in the Hangman's Daughter series fit tasks too? That could be a way to get through a few.

message 1236: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments Let's see - they're all set in Germany.

First & second books (The Hangman's Daughter & The Dark Monk) both have black covers which would fit France and Iceland.

Second book (The Dark Monk) could fit the devout character book in Poland.

Third book (The Beggar King)- only the setting would qualify.

message 1237: by Delitealex (new)

Delitealex | 336 comments Finished Scarlet and loved it so much going on. I enjoy the action and trying to figure out what gonna happen next. I'll probably read Cress soon.

I'm reading Shadow Kiss right now. I've been getting into YA books recently.

message 1238: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments I finished both Casually Cursed and Arrows of the Queen . Really disappointed in Arrows, here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

I shelved The Angel's Game because I totally lost track of where I am with the audio book. My app played it for a couple hours unbeknownst to me, and I kind of tuned out of the beginning. I want to restart it, but I won't finish it in time to return it, and I can't renew it. So...I'm returning it and will place it on hold for the future.

I also shelved The Return of Sherlock Holmes temporarily until I can focus on reading it. I replaced it in my serial killer challenge with Arrows of the Queen. I'm just not waking up early enough to get any short-stories in.

Now I'm starting Anne of Windy Poplars as my last proper book in my serial killer challenge. I have a couple more comic trades to read, and then I'll be done with the challenge!

message 1239: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I've had that situation, too, Lynda. It's frustrating. I'm very diligent now about adding a bookmark every time I stop listening to an audiobook. If it doesn't sound right when I next pick it up, I can restart from the bookmark.

message 1240: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments I think I will adopt that strategy, Janice, as I'm pretty sure it was the headphones wrapped around my phone which re-started my player.

message 1241: by Lisa (last edited Dec 28, 2015 07:18AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments I finished Florence and Giles. I rated it 3 stars. There were aspects of it that I really enjoyed, such as the writing style and the gothic atmosphere, and the story was interesting enough to keep me wanting to turn the pages but it was one of those books that left me feeling unsastified once I had reached the end. I had also expected it be really spooky and it wasn't really, apart from the occasional creepy bit here and there. It was an enjoyable enough way to pass a few dark, winter evenings though and I have heard some really good things about the sequel, The Girl Who Couldn’t Read, so I am looking forward to reading that.

I am going to wrap up 2015 by rereading The Miniaturist which is my one of my top ten favourite books.

message 1242: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 836 comments I'm not sure I am going to finish A Darker Shade of Magic before my loan expires at the library. Then, there are 4 people ahead of me. I'm currently debating if I should buy it or not. Just bought Leviathan Wakes because I know I won't get that one in from the library for a while.

It looks like Anne of Windy Poplars will be my last book of 2015!

message 1243: by CFDeeDee (new)

CFDeeDee I've just finished The Outsiders ,it was a nice reading.
Right now I'm reading something out of my comfort zone, I'm reading something in Arabic -which I don't usually do, except of religion books- so I'm reading خان الخليلي Khan El-Khalili , Al-Khalili Inn .. That is the translation of the title.
Hope I like it.

message 1244: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59889 comments I finished Brilliance today after several days of not listening at all. I thought it would be rude to listen to audiobooks instead of visiting with my father. He headed home this morning, so I was able to finish the book.

I was going to say that, while I enjoyed this book, I wouldn't read the next in the series. But then I discovered that I already own the sequal, A Better World. I think I'll wait for a while to read it. I'm not a huge fan of thrillers and espionage, even though this has a sci fi twist to it.

Next up is The Lost Wife. I hope I can finish it before we start our buddy read for Monster Hunter International the beginning of January.

message 1245: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm trying desperately to finish The Bazaar of Bad Dreams as it has to go back to the library sometime soon and there's no chance of renewing it because it has holds on it. I've had to put Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World on hold while i blitz through the short story collection. I'll probably start Monster Hunter International even if i haven't finished Hard Boiled wonder as I can have it as my commute book. Marukami and commuting doesn't work for me.

message 1246: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19139 comments I haven't really read anything over the past few days. My husband and I moved out-of-state a couple of months ago and we've been back visiting family and friends for the holidays. We are heading home today, so I'm hoping that I can finish my challenge book, themed read, and series level in the next couple of days. I plan to return to reading:

After You After You by Jojo Moyes - white cover, but may use it for the winners challenge too
Uprooted Uprooted by Naomi Novik - winners challenge, but might not finish on time
The Blood of Olympus The Blood of Olympus (The Heroes of Olympus, #5) by Rick Riordan - series challenge, will complete my level
UnSouled UnSouled (Unwind, #3) by Neal Shusterman - also for the series challenge. I'll finish this one today while traveling, but will also need to read UnDivided to finish the series. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do that, unless I read UnDivided instead of finishing The Blood of Olympus to complete my level. I suppose that depends what my husband feels like listening to on the long ride home.

message 1247: by KimeyDiann (new)

KimeyDiann | 2174 comments I'm about halfway into Shame on audio and I have really been enjoying it so far. It is the story of a serial killer's son who is suspected of following in his father's footsteps. Very interesting and I'm hoping to finish it before the end of the year.

I also started Frost last night and hope to finish it before New Year's as well.

message 1249: by Sandra, Moderator (last edited Dec 29, 2015 12:36PM) (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11260 comments I finished Regarding Anna a couple of days ago, and rated it 3 stars. I really liked the plot, and written in a different way would have been a 4 stars to me. The beginning was a little abrupt for my taste, and even though it is set in the mid 60' the only thing that let you know that is the mention of the dates, the lack of cell phones and that all research is done in the library instead of internet. I 'd enjoy more sense of time in the story. Despite all of that I liked the story, and the characters grew in me. I nearly abandoned the book around 12 % into it, but it ended being hard to put it down.

I started yesterday Scraps of Paper as a quick read before the year ends and I can start The Nightingale

I'm also reading "Hubert the dragon" by John Calder Liechty. A friend of mine from my book club and Mr. Liechty are neighbors, and we are reading this as an arc. Actually the book is still a bunch of A4 sheets of papers with a spiral binder. :) Not even publisher yet. The copyright was only completed two month ago, so we are really excited about reading this one. This is his first novel and so far so good.

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments Reading The Divine Comedy and not completely grasping it found some advice on goodreads so am also reading The Modern Scholar: Dante and his Divine Comedy. It really is a great no wait epic story. I will return to both again later on because there is more than what one reading will allow a person to grasp fully. And yes Janice I am Still stuck in purgatory
