Grimm Readers ~ How to Play, Help, & Discussion

Not me. I still don't understand what I am doing. I need a guide to break it down.

I am NOT smarter than a fifth grader"
When the time comes you have to read as mush as you can books. You have to pick a book that can give you the biggest points for your team. That's why I am trying to find the perfect book for the assignment. I am from team Red Riding Hood and I need a red book, maybe a re-tell, and so on. :D

Well In my free time I was watching Disney Chanel. And the trailer of the movie of this book was. And that how I thought about it :D

If I planned this book for next week, my scoring would look like...

Main Task
--Has yellow = 100 (assuming team gets 10 books)
--480 pages = 35 points
Bonus scoring
--Retelling = 50
--Author Initials = 50
--Team Name (Sleeping Beauty) = 50
--Team Name (Beauty & Beast) = 50 ????
Total = 285 (or 335 if TN counts twice)

You won't get 100 for the book meeting the task. The team gets 100 for every set of 10.
So that book would have 185 points.

this is shelved as fairy tales and it seems to have a Cinderella-ish theme.
Does this work for re-telling?
2. Does any fairytale work for re-telling or just the team names/sub-names? Would Rapunzel or Goldilocks work?

And yes any fairy tale is fair game for retellings.

Just gotta meet the page minimum and not be a graphic novel or poetry book. And it has to be a book listed on GR.

And if it's shelved as 'fairy-tale', will that count for retelling?

Claire you can reread as long as you really reread it. No time limit but you can't reread one you already read during the course of the challenge.

Jenne the moon looks pink to me - is it "pink enough"?"
It works I can tell its pink :)

It works, just link the both covers when you post it's done. It drives me insane how editions vary so much! Cheesy IMO.

If it's shelved or on a listopia as a retelling it'll work. In the event it's not and you know it's one that's fine just let me know.
Kayla I can probably find a place for you. I'm gonna wait a few days and see if we have any no shows.

What IS the criteria for judging if something qualifies as "Fairy Tale"? Wizard of Oz is not a fairy tale that I know of (and I don't consider it to be one, either)-- it's a children's book of fiction with fantasy elements, I guess you could say. But not all fantasy is a fairy tale.
edit: Quick glance at Wikipedia gives this definition of 'fairy tale':
A fairy tale is a type of short story that typically features European folkloric fantasy characters, such as dwarves, elves, fairies, giants, gnomes, goblins, mermaids, trolls, or witches, and usually magic or enchantments. Fairy tales may be distinguished from other folk narratives such as legends (which generally involve belief in the veracity of the events described)[1] and explicitly moral tales, including beast fables.
Okay, you could argue that Wizard has witches but it's not a short story and I just don't think of it when I think 'fairy tale'.
edit 2:
Awesome, there is a Classification System to help determine what qualifies as folk tale vs fairy tale vs legend vs whatever else.

LOL!
I guess if anything, I'd say "modern American fairy tale" or something, IF I were pressed to say it counts as one. The Wizard of Oz itself has been shelved as "fairy tale" 118 times. I don't know. It has some fairy tale elements but ... shrug... lol.

We've got The Frog Prince and The Seven Ravens, how do those play into the challenge?
Thanks!
I also want to say how awesome you are Jenne. This is a massive undertaking and looks fun and amazing.

Is the bar on this an acceptable shade of pink?

But if it's shelved as a fairy tale regardless of accuracy, can we ride?
BTW, Jenne, this isn't easy man!!

I"m with you Ezi.
Is this going to be like SS/SSS where even if it's shelved wrong we can still use it? Also, can we use foreign covers, etc to get our tasks/minis done?

I don't think of it as a fairy tale either. It is an awesome book though :)
Wikipedia has Alice and wonderland listed as a fairy tale. To me it's not but since Wikipedia has it listed I'll take Alice and wonderland retellings.

Yes perfectly fine! If you'd like me to link it up top on your team's thread I will.

There's not a deadline but I wouldn't wait too long to update your spreadsheet. Everyone will be surprised how many books a team can knock out some books.
Once you have a set of 10 complete task books submit those on the finished thread along with any additional books that didn't fit the task.

We've got The Frog Prince and The Seven Ravens, how do thos..."
Yes that's right :)

Is the bar on this an acceptable shade of pink?

Yep :)

Yes that's enough white. All I'm looking for on the color task is enough that it's visible. Doesn't have to be 50% like we do over on SS:)

For the initials...does it have to be first and last only? Examples: I have a book by Sara B. Larson...would that count for SL only or SB as well or SB only? Or I also have T.E. Sivec would that only be T.S. or would it be T.E. as well?
Thanks!

Lol too true! It's always a crash course when it's a round 1.
Ok I don't think I missed any ?'s if I did let me know :)
