Snow White and the Hunter -- how about this one for re-telling?(sorry...I need use my credits up, they expire soon)
Susan A wrote: "What about this type of book for re-telling?Snow White and the Seven Hunks (one of the versions hits the page count)
not on a list, not shelved ... not much plot I would imagine"
Ok so as much as I hate to admit it, I've read that one….
Plot wise they're ahh filming a show that's Snow White x rated. So I guess it'll work since it does tie into Snow White in around about sense lol.

Haha Now I wanna read it!!

LOL
Jenne, I think maybe there was a mistake with the "Sandy" on our team (Cinderella). No Sandy has checked in with us so I tried looking her up and saw there are actually only two Sandys signed up. They are both at Snow White and Beauty and the Beast. I still might have missed one but if not can we please get another player? And TayaJay said she left you a message that she wouldn't be able to play and we'd need a new player for her also.
Thank You

My bad.
Jenne, unless i am going mad i think there is something wrong with the author initials, I don't think there is an Al ??
Heather I'll double check...if that's the only mistake I made we're doing good lol! I'm working on tayajays backup, should have an answer on that today.
V I'll double check that author initial list.
I may be wrong, i was trying to get them all in my head and go through my books, but that one didn't seem to work
I just did a quick check on the author initial list. I had found IN hadn't been on the master list (post 3 of team's threads) the other day and I added it right quick.Just did a double check and 2 of the teams hadn't been updated with IN, they are now but if you put the list on your spreadsheet double check you have IN on there.
Yesterday I did get one team linked up with the players shelves. I've got a crazy weekend and I'll try to get some more added. If I don't I will Monday.
Jenne wrote: "little mermaid"Right so i have the whole thing completely wrong in my head.....it's very easy lol
So, i can use any initial in the *whole* name as long as it is consecutive, not just first 2 last 2 and the middle bits ?
So for example snow white i can have
Sn No Ow Ww Wh Hi It Te ?
is that right? sorry for being a pain :o(
You're not being a pain my dear :)snow white would be:
Sn
no
ow
ww
wh
hi
it
te
Check post 3 of your team's thread and all of the possible combos are there.
When you're mentally thinking it run the words together
beautyandthebeast
peterpan etc etc
great got it !i though it was only first 2 and last 2 of the words, that's where i was confused lol.
thanks jenne, i need to go back to planning now, i couldn't find anything before haha
That's okay, V, when I think about how the letters work, I end up breaking the words up into two-letter parts but I don't use the same letter twice. So, I just want to say a big THANK YOU to Jenne for providing us with a "Dummies Guide to Initials You Can Use" list because it is so handy!!
To show you my brain's way of thinking, here's how I thought it was supposed to go until Jenne's list:
Using SNOWWHITE again.. I would have gone SN OW WH IT and then that would leave the dangling E so I'd be like "Okay, just tack it to the S at the beginning of the word", lol. With Jenne's way, we get a LOT more options but it just took my brain awhile to work itself around that. So much easier to see it all broken down in her long list.
Hi Jenne. I was kind of bored and I thought about future Mini challenge or task. Maybe you could do something with enemies, bad guys.
For example:
Cinderella: In story Cinderella, the bad guy is stepmother, so maybe the task would be to read a book with stepmother/stepfather in it.
Peter Pan: In Peter Pan there is a Pirate, so you have to read about a guy/girl who has a ship or is marine and so on.
Red Riding Hood: The bad guy is a Wolf, so you have to read about werewolves.
Snow White: In this story, there is an evil Queen, so the book has to have a Queen
Sleeping Beauty: Sleeping Beauty was cursed by fairy god-mother. So in the story will be fairies.
Little Mermaid: Ariel's enemy was a sea witch, so story has to had a witch.
Beauty & the Beast: In this story the bad guy was just some guy. So maybe the task will be to read a book, with nothing magical in it. (or something)
I hope you will like it. :D
Jenne, I guess im still confused about one thing... when you say we complete a set of ten tasks all ten could be just regular books (not retelling, no author initial, no tnb...) right? We would only get points for the pages though. Or is it we HAVE to have a "blue" book in there somewhere? I realize the goal of this challenge is for fairytales though. I'm just making sure I've got it. I promise this is my last question! I will try to stop annoying you now! ;)

I think this would be an awesome challenges idea....
You're not annoying me silly :)The 10 task books (which is the color thing for the first 2 weeks) once you've got 10, turn them in along with any books that didn't fit the task but have page points and any applicable bonus and or mini points.
Task books can have any applicable bonus points, can have mini challenge points, and page points too.
Botg inspired me on this one so think of the 10 task like how are spell out was on that game in principle.
Ok, I totally had it wrong. thanks for asking, Heather!! I thought all our books had to have blue to count.Another question that I am totally confused on - can any fairy tale retelling be used for points or does it have to be our team theme? Does that make sense?

It can be any teams fairy tale retelling - not just your assigned fairy tale
Jenne, I have been trying to find a books with the Seven Raven retelling. The Raven Cycle After looking on the website and watching the video I think it is loosely based on the fairytale. Would you accept it as a retelling?http://maggiestiefvater.com/the-raven...

Katherine it is a wonderful idea. I've got the teams semi-genre grouped so I should be able to tweak it and have it work :)
Ps any ideas for mini's or tasks are always welcome!
Ora wrote: "Jenne, I have been trying to find a books with the Seven Raven retelling. The Raven Cycle After looking on the website and watching the video I think it is loosely based on the fairytale. Would yo..."Ora I'll take a closer look when I'm not on my phone and let you know.
Any retelling is fair game it doesn't "have" to be the ones all of us have on all of the teams too.
Just to confirm for the millionth time, we can read any retelling of any fairytale as long as it is shelved as a retelling, correct?
It's a lot wading through the thread I know :)I've been a little MIA today. We had my grandpas 92 birthday party here and I've had company in. I don't think I missed any ?'s but if I did let me know it wasn't intentional.

Those are really cool ideas, Katherine.

I was out of the country during signups for this :( -- so I'm tossing my name in the ring if any team needs an alternate.

Jenne, hope his party was wonderful and enjoy your company :)
Ora wrote: "Jenne wrote: "Ora wrote: "Jenne, I have been trying to find a books with the Seven Raven retelling. The Raven Cycle After looking on the website and watching the video I think it is loosely based ..."My brain is definitely moving slow with remembering some of the posts. The Raven Boys have been shelved 8 times for fairytales.
I understand how to keep score in our spreadsheet and what counts, what doesn't. I'm not sure how we move our points to the main spreadsheet, The Grimm Readers spreadsheet.
See this post:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
So it Monday Jun 22, and we have 10 green task books reported and 3 non task tasks reported in our spreadsheet.
Now what?
Do I just go to the peter pan page to Column D enter the totals for all 13 books, and 100 for the the 10 task? Do I use column E for the next set of 10 task books plus whatever non task books are complete?
I copied this from a previous postOk on the changing of themes:
Q: When the theme/task changes what if my team isn't finished with the current set of 10?
A:That's not a problem, just finish out your current 10 and in the meantime you can still be working on the new theme/task too. Just can't use one book for both theme/tasks.
Question:
I understand the no doubling up on tasks.
It's July 1, and we have 18 task (green) books completed. We reported 10.
1. Do we report the other 8 books at this time for their bonus points?
2. On July 8 and 12, I read books that have green on the cover, that I am not counting for any other theme task. Are you saying thay I can now add 100 points for another set of 10 complete tasks?
Jenne wrote: "The game spreadsheet I'll be updating. So no worries on that :)"okay. So that means I don't understand this post:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
"Once you have a set of 10 complete task books submit those on the finished thread along with any additional books that didn't fit the task."
Do you mean you don't want me to put things into my spreadsheet until I have a group of 10 completed tasks? What is the finished thread?
You can definitely tell me...don't worry about this, it's not ready yet...if that's the case.

Snow White and the Seven Hunks (one of the versions hits the page count)
not on a list, not shelved ... not much plot I would imagine
