PepperP0t Good points Ezi but she did think the book was too wordy. and I agree others love books that I cannot comprehend the appeal.

I too look to many of my GR friend that have similar tastes in authors and genres even if/when we don't like the same thing about it. because you can like different aspects

He came at you in a very rude manner and thus got blasted for his arrogance. Like many people have told you, don't worry about it.I see reviews at amazon saying "I loved this book". Oh yea? What did you like so much?

Besides, you didn't attack him and say he was the worst writer ever or say something about his mama.

LMAO, lots of authors learned a lesson from this one.

That's my dawg!

message 154: by Emma (M) (new)

Emma (M) After the comments about Cait's review I went and looked for myself but I am guessing his posts were deleted from the comments section. However the 2* review below Cait's also copped some flack from the author but the reviewer managed to take a screenshot of it before the author's comments were deleted from his review as well so his comment to that reviewer is still there to see. He comes across as a complete narcissist with a god complex, I am sorry you had to deal with that douche bag Cait!

message 155: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 197 comments Kate I think you handled yourself like a champion, and did absolutely nothing wrong. The author clearly has problems, and based on his comments alone, of which I could not quite understand in full, I will never read anything he has to write.

message 156: by Joanne (new)

Joanne I saw some of that whole debacle yesterday (along with, in the past, multiple other examples of writers acting the same way) and this is one of the major reasons that I just don't bother with books that have so few readers that the writers have the time to read and think about each and every review. I have plenty, as in multiple hundreds of books I want to read so I don't really feel like I'm missing out.

Also, the author may want constructive reviews, but they're not owed them. That's what editors/beta readers are for.

Joanne wrote: "Also, the author may want constructive reviews, but they're not owed them. That's what editors/beta readers are for. ..."

they don't want that either. Because my author friend always says "damn, if the reviewer knows so much, why doesn't' she write her own book then!"

they want praise for their efforts. They want validation for their blood, sweat and tears. then they want to sell books

message 158: by Berit☀️✨ (new)

Berit☀️✨ (berittalksbooks) | 197 comments Emma, I have a link unfortunately I don't know how to post links :-( if anyone else does it is archived, with all his ridiculous comments, and I mean they are beyond ridiculous!

message 159: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Emma, on the page before this one, I linked them for V so you should be able to find them there. It includes screencaps to...everything. His comments/amazon/etc.

message 160: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Ezi, so it sounds like your author friend wants reviewers to write enough to prove they read the book, but not enough to sound like they know too much. And thank the author for writing the book, even if they didn't like it, but not leave any concrit because they're not supposed to know too much about it anyway.

I don't know if I would know how to write a review like that.

message 161: by VNerdbooks (new)

VNerdbooks (v_nerdbooks) | 5307 comments OMG I'm just reading it now!!
It looks like he has deleted his comments now but I can see the basis of it when people have replied, what a complete tool haha!

Did he honestly think by doing something like that it would hold him in good stead in a community that has had its fair share of bonkers author / bullying / stalking that he must have heard of recently!
Well done to you too Cait, you were perfectly polite with your reposed to him.

Ps I was one of the ones that hated BDB **Please don't kill me**

Cait, thank you for keeping me entertained all night, I have sat and read all FIFTEEN pages and laughed a lot at his comments, luckily even deleting his comments doesn't help as the screen shots proving him as a batshit crazy douchecanoe shows!!

It is also lovely to see authors banding together to actually apologise (on his behalf).

message 171: by Paris (last edited Jun 09, 2015 08:43PM) (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Wow, this is what happens when I can't get on goodreads at work, I miss so many interesting things. Cait, I cannot believe you had to go through that. I've left 1 star reviews before, one of which was pretty scathing. Every time I do, I worry about something like this happening.

As someone who is currently finishing a book to send to betas, I have been preparing for a long time for 1 star reviews. It comes with the territory. And I will own it if I get one. As a reviewer, I know that not everyone likes everything. And I know that when I give a bad review, it's not to be malicious, it's to be as helpful as possible, but even then sometimes the author did nothing wrong, it just wasn't for me. This guy obviously has issues that are deeper than just this. And your comments about his book being wordy and pretentious was definitely proven with his first comment to you.

Good on you for standing your ground.

ETA: Holy crap, I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read his comment about dark occultists or whatever. This guy is a serious nutter.

Shannon (pokey36) | 1239 comments Jeeeezuz, I just went down that rabbit hole and read everything about that dbag. And that's why I don't read books with big words and stuffs...more like "look at the size of his *bleep*" or "take off your clothes so we can *bleep*". See? Easy! lol

message 176: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments Well, of course after seeing this -I had to go and see what all the talk was about. The author just comes off as a total nut. I'm unclear why he thinks people that don't like his book should just get there money and not leave a review. He makes no sense. Anyway - Cait - you were very nice and respectful in all the responses I read - kudos!

He went on my no- not-ever shelf. Sorry no money for you.

Several others did 1 star reviews after how he treated Cait. What an idiot - he kinda bombed his own book with all his crazy comments

message 178: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 435 comments Cait, you handled this nutso very patiently. I would have send him back to the hole he crawled out much, much sooner.
So what were you thinking, having your own opinion about this masterpiece? How dare you ...

message 179: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Well done Cait on handling this whole episode with such grace.

This author is a prime example of how NOT to behave and he has done more harm to his own career than you could ever have done. Not only has he convinced me to never read one of his "masterpieces", but also reaffirmed my decision to think long and hard before reading a self-published author as you never know when one might go ballistic. I don't need that kind of pressure and leave it up to the readers who are far braver than I.

message 180: by VNerdbooks (new)

VNerdbooks (v_nerdbooks) | 5307 comments I can't believe how "out there" he is haha, just for that 1☆ review the world is going to end and we are all going to die I tell you DIE!!!!!!! lol

message 181: by VNerdbooks (new)

VNerdbooks (v_nerdbooks) | 5307 comments Sheesh I hope Jasinda Wilder never reads my reviews, I might have to move house haha!

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments Wow I missed all of that but had to go back to read it .Cait you did a great job with handling that one. He is a complete tool.

message 183: by Cait S (new)

Cait S Thanks guys! That's really nice of you all to say. I'm so like...non-confrontational. I was sitting here shaking like a leaf the entire time, my poor best friends getting bombarded with texts like "I LITERALLY THINK THIS GUY IS GOING TO KILL ME CAN I COME STAY WITH YOU" "WHERE DO YOU GO ABOUT BUYING PEPPER SPRAY IN BULK?!"

It's been absolutely crazy.

message 184: by PepperP0t (new)

PepperP0t it's definitely a case of reviewer bullying.

message 186: by Heather (last edited Jun 10, 2015 05:48AM) (new)

Heather | 268 comments So, i just read all of it. He's obviously crazy. I gave a one star review to a very popular book of Kresley Cole (Poison Princess). Everyone but me loved that book. It just freaking happens. I doubt he'd be able to say he's enjoyed everything he's seen or read. It makes me so mad. Im sorry Cait that you had to go through all of that.

message 187: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished reading all about this and I have to say you did very well handling it Cait, some of his comments would have totally flipped my B*tch switch and then it would have been on! That guy seriously needs to get a life and probably a new carrier if he can't handle a few negative comments.

message 188: by ~Melissa~ (new)

~Melissa~ | 5253 comments PepperP0t wrote: "it's definitely a case of reviewer bullying."

Exactly!!

message 189: by VNerdbooks (new)

VNerdbooks (v_nerdbooks) | 5307 comments The thing is that it wasn't even a bad review, and it's an opinion at the end of the day, which we are all allowed to have!

Look, my brother loves, I mean LOVES Bob Dylan, he worships him, and all that sails in him, I personally think that he sounds like a person starting up a motor boat or chainsaw!
I can't bear his voice at ALL, now I don't deny that he has made some great songs, but if he is singing them I would rather sit in the bathroom and clip my toenails........just saying!

However that does NOT give my brother the right to turn around and abuse me about it, we just have friendly banter where he tells me my taste in music is shit, and I tell him that he is an annoying little git lol

It's all about opinions, no one is right! The guy just needs to chill out and stop while he still has the option of having a writing career !

Who's on what team can be found here.

I'll get the threads updated with names, links, etc throughout the day.

I did my best to keep teams even with books and genres as best as possible.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments Yay we have teams. I am so ready for this one to start now that I have been in a few team challenges and all have ended I feel like I'm missing a limb or something.

Nika ♥Marie♥ (mylknhoney) | 659 comments Little Mermaid is my favorite Princess but I like Beauty and the Beast more for themes.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments See Princess Tianna and Pocohontas have always been my favs.

message 196: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Real quick,

Just want to clarify that re-tellings, as well as the word in a team name and author initials DON'T have to be your team. Any of the 7 teams are cool.

Also since this is the 1st time we've done this one. The first theme/task will be stupid easy for everyone to get their feet wet :)

I'll post the 1st set of theme/tasks and the mini towards the weekend so everyone can start hunting out options too.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments Jenne stupid question but I like to organize my shelves for challenges can I put books on my grimm shelf as long as they are marked to read and not show as read so you know that I haven't started them yet? I was trying to get books that would fit put together.

message 198: by Jenne (last edited Jun 10, 2015 09:25AM) (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Also, I'll add this to FAQ post on the 1st page here for easy reference. Now that the team names are "official" I'll post a list of acceptable options for the Team Name Bonus:

Cinderella: Cinder, cinders, Ella
Snow White: Snow, snowed, snows, snowing, white, whites
Little Mermaid: Little, Wee, Small, Mermaid, Merfolk, Merman
Red Riding Hood: Red, reds, ride, riders, riding, rider, hood, hoods, hooded
Beauty & the Beast: beauty, beautiful, beauties, beast, beasts, beastly
Sleeping Beauty: Sleep, sleeping, sleepy, asleep, beauty, beautiful, beauties
Peter Pan: Peter, pan, pans

Just to make it easier if you would make a separate shelf for potential reads. I think I need to do the same thing.

Shy The WidowMaker (booklovingmama) | 847 comments Ok thanks will do. I think it will be easier for me to find them later my tbr shelf is crazy.
