message 9205: by Erika (new)

Erika Hi! I'm Erika and I wanted to read more on the mystery/thriller genre. I'm fairly new to it and I badly need some recommendations. I honestly thought I was more of a romance sort of reader, but after reading some thriller, I found myself incapable of putting the books down. Please send me some tips since I am extremely new to this group on GoodReads. I literally just learned there's a community after opening my account with my laptop.

Hey guys. My name is Jasmin and I am thirty-three years old male. And I've to say that I love thrillers, especially, the psychological ones, the kind that mess with your head, and are just too good to put down. But if I had to pick,

I'd pick those that have very beautiful and mysterious covers cause I am literally obsessed with books that have beautiful and mysterious covers, simply because of their beauty and because of their mystery. Anyway, I joined this group, and I am here, because I am searching for book recommendations

and for the people who have similar taste to mine, who love beautiful and mysterious covers as much as I do, and are willing to strike up a chat every once in a while, you know, talk about books and all kinds of recommendations. If you're curious and interested, you know where to find me =) Blessings

Sarah | 1469 comments Hi there

I’m Sarah. I live in Adelaide, South Australia. Have always loved reading but since having to resign early from my job in the police force with a back injury I have too much spare time to read. I’ve always loved thriller/crime/mystery books however, I now enjoy chick lit/romance to lighten the load. I have 2 adult children son, 28 and daughter,24 who have ‘flown the nest’. It’s just me and my pussycat now. I recently sold my house with a huge garden and bought a two bedroom unit. I miss all the plants and trees but not the work. Since finding this app my list of books I want to read has got out of control. Im trying not to look at notifications of new releases or what other people on here are reading but just can’t stop myself.
If anyone would like to chat about books, learn about my beautiful home town or really anything at all I have plenty of hours to fill 😊

Paul Arvidson (paularvidson) | 2 comments Hi Everyone,

Just joined here as an author! I've been writing since 2008 but I started as a Sci-Fi author. I got into writing thrillers when the idea in my head of 'a girl face down in the soil with a wheelchair on top of her and a guy with a gun coming for her', got stuck in my head. I couldn't write anything else till I'd worked out her story.
I live in Somerset (much more famous for poetry and Sci-Fi than thrillers) with my wife and two lovely kids, one of whom may or may not have been the influence for Cady Grey, my protagonist!
Nice to meet you all,

Paul Arvidson

Jayson | 2 comments Hi Everyone, my name is Jayson. When I was a kid, I wasn’t really into reading — into movies and tv mostly; but as time passed I started to love reading more and more. I’m into many genres, but I’d have to say my favorites are sci-fi, thriller/mystery and horror. Whatever is a great page-turner that enhances my imagination, you can bet that I wont be able to put it down. I hope you like some of the titles I will mention in this group and I look forward to enjoying yours and hopefully maybe discussing them with you.

message 9222: by Jimp (new)

Jimp | 4 comments Hello Group,
James Patrick, I'm known by all as 'Jimp' - my elder brothers started that (short for JimmyP) and so it was carried over to school and then my adult life. My wife-to-be, when we first met, thought it most funny. Jimp, I find from her, [a Norwegian], in the English dictionary means: scant, slender and I am slender [long-distance runner slender]. A sport I love and love much more as it helped break the ice when I met Tordis (Tor): an angel. Tor she told me means Thor. I'm most fascinated by thriller/suspense - fiction/non-fiction and have always taken an interest in books concerning the modern history of Europe and of late more the second war and the years post those dark times. If anyone has recommendations, I would be most grateful. Happy reading to all.

message 9224: by John (new)

John | 7 comments Hello, I’m John. I’ve been a member of your group for a year now, and believe I’ve failed to introduce myself. An appalling dereliction, I agree. From a career in design engineering, once the mortgage was paid, I took early retirement and with a large garden/orchard have become almost self sufficient: my responsibilities at present rest with a small group of not-so-able hedgehogs. The neighbours became aware that I was caring for a hog with one-eye and a hospice seemed to blossom from there. Returning to university, I read history and that led me to such works as: The Great Game - The Struggle for Empire in Central Asia, On Secret Service East of Constantinople - The Plot to Bring Down the British Empire, and the like; all of which gripped me and I class as exceptional thriller/suspense/mysteries. My grandmother on my mother’s side was White Russian and as youngster she left Russia in 1921 under the care of her father and mother - her father was killed in Ukraine - and she made the crossing from France to Blighty with her mother in November of 1923: from their accounts the journey across Europe was most harrowing. My mother has the family book and the the dairies of both her grandparents - I have often thought of creating a manuscript from those, but feel unqualified and not able to do justice to their story. There is no mention in my great-grandparent’s memoirs of escape lines and safe houses, but my grandmother, during her later years with what she excused as her failing memory, often spoke of ‘the kindest of people’ and how they are the only reason she survived. I spend time researching escape-lines, underground networks and life-in-the shadows. I won’t claim a need to find evidence of who might have helped my grandmother, as I am content with a desire to more fully understand the ways and means by which many sought to resist oppression even in the face of the great risk to them and their family. I yearn for well-researched, real-life thrillers focused on 20th Century Europe.

Rob | 1 comments Greetings Group,
I’m Rob. I live just to the west of Chicago and spend my days working as a payroll clerk. My passion and that of my wife is making furniture; of which the house now abounds and has become a small business enterprise (we sell to friends and friends of friends). My wife’s family has a long military history; she was USAF and how we met. I did some time in the British Army (The Pay Corps). We read in our down-time, more so now the boys are getting ready to flit the roost. We tend towards good quality thrillers, espionage and political intrigue. Most of our friends and neighbours spend their time in front of the ‘box’ so we decided to take the step and join an online book club. Any recommendation will be gratefully received.

Jannelies (living between hope and fear) | 327 comments Hi everybody, I'm Jannelies from the Netherlands. I've joined Goodreads in 2015, originally because I was curious about whether I could find interesting books for review. Well, I found more! I found a great community where I feel very much at home.
Since I have a full time job and a husband and family, I do not always have enough time to read and/or discuss books but I do what I can and I'm already looking forward to spend a whole lot of time here once I'm retired in a few years.
I read almost everything but sometimes the emphasis is more on one genre than the other. The only thing I'll never read is books with heavy tatooed men on them...
My favourite genre at the moment is thrillers and within that genre I prefer police procedurals, preferably from England or the Nordic countries. The darker the better!
I'm always open to suggestions!

Formerly with the ambulance service, I now work in Brussels and drive expensive four-door saloons to earn a shilling. Consequently, although it is frowned upon, I occasionally find time in the working day when I can turn a few pages. I lean towards political intrigue and fact based thrillers.

Kristine | 1 comments Hiya all!
I love mystery thrillers, edge of your seat kinds of things, with twists and especially psychological ones. I need at least one relatable character to relate to! And I always judge the book by the cover :)

I am fairly new to Goodreads, only started being active this January. Based in the UK, I am reading my way through 2022 and always looking for more titles to add to my TBR :)
Hope to connect with some of you and talk thrillers! :)

message 9238: by Mike (new)

Mike Winters | 2 comments I'm Mike. The wife and I have retired early from the city and now live in a lush, green, rainy, valley of Wales. We never did enjoy the city too much and the arrival of Covid gave us time to assess our situation. We read and have done for years and years and, prior to Coved, over wine and nibbles we'd discuss our choices with a group of friends.
Now, without that indulgence we decided - on advice from a good friend - to join an online bookclub. Our best wishes to all.

Karen M | 3 comments Hi,

My name is Karen and I love to read. I live in the suburbs of New Jersey not too far from New York City but I live in a town of less than 20,000 people which is a part of a countywide library system so it's like having over 80 libraries at my disposal. I was a reader prior to retirement and now, well, I read around 150 books a year. I read almost any genre but myteries and thrillers always attract my attention whether it's online or in a bookstore. Sometimes I have to remind myself that there are other genres I enjoy.

Jess (coffeeshopthrillers) My name is Jess. I have been reading everything I could get my hands at the age of 3. I'm a Middle School English Teacher, it was either that or becoming a Librarian.

My love of reading stemmed from my mother, as she read to me nightly as a child. My first love was the Nancy Drew series, my mom had the entire collection and I'd read until my eyes no longer could stay open. As a YA, I TRIED numerous times to get into Stephen King novels but due to the long Chapters and overly drawn out details of the the characters, settings, dates. Etc; I never succeeded so I went to R.L Stine with Fear Street series of books and V. C. Andrews with her sagas. As an adult, I loved everything by Mary Higgins Clark and am loving anything written by B. A. Paris. I'm venturing into other Authors like Shari Lapena, and Tana French.

message 9247: by Helen (new)

Helen | 1 comments Hi, I'm Helen. We (my husband and I) joined Goodreads a few months back, but we have been moving house. We can see our former abode from the bedroom window of our current dwelling. Our daughters now occupy the house 'down-the-hill'. Kids, they grow up, come in at all hours, hair all over the place and scurry up the stairs (as if we don't know what they've been up to). When I jump on Mike and start snogging him, all I get is, "Ohh Mum, don't."
At long last, after twenty years, I've got him all to myself, again.
