I'm not sure, Randall, that Janet is that rare but ok! I'm not even keen on the name and it's not actually my name. I'm Indian by descent, born in the UK so my birth/official name is Indian. My mum gave me the name Janet because she didn't want me to get bullied at school when I was young. The world has changed a lot since then. I go by both names now.

message 9307: by Amy (new)

Amy | 1090 comments I’m a truck driver. I work as an OTR company driver (48 states). I’ve always been a reader, but most of the books I read now are audiobooks, due to having a lot of time to listen, but fatigue, eye strain, and poor night vision makes actual reading more difficult. I actually like to have a book and the audio going at the same time! I’ll read a little from all the genres, but I’m not a fan of romance, self help, or politics. My favorite is FICTION. I usually try everything that is recommended by friends (or at least I’ll check the ratings ;-)). A lot of my library came from discount selections and giveaways, but I really do check the comments, reviews, and of course Goodreads!!!

Jody (jodysbookishhaven) I am Jody, and I am from Indiana (not by choice) lol! I love to read a good psychological thriller plus I am also in to a good mystery and suspense book.

Happy reading ❤️

Kirsty_Bookshelf | 1 comments I've been in this group for a while now but don't think I ever introduced myself. I am a huge crime fiction fan, leaning more towards the psychological thrillers. Most recently I've become obsessed with series that feature a female detective lead, which has led me to starting a new book club. If you are interested in reading more crime fiction in this genre we'd love to have you join us.

J.R Hartley | 1 comments Hi I’m Phillip, 37 from North West England. Massive crime/thriller, murder-mystery, and horror fan! I saw books as an escape when I was a teenager and it grew from there— I would be lost without my reading time, of which I try and read as much as I can.

message 9314: by Amy (new)

Amy | 1090 comments I was looking at the comments, but I do not know how to comment on the comments, so I will ask in this message instead of directing it to a specific person. I’ve been very happy with Goodreads. I am not sure how I did it before (maybe on a laptop) but there was a way to compare yourself and your review ratings to other people and find out how close your preferences are (%). Since I don’t know how to do it anymore, if any of you have the time, would you compare your historical reads and ratings to mine and let me know? It’s a lot to ask. My problem with groups has been that I finish most books in a day or two, but I don’t have time for all of the commenting and back and forth as to literary techniques implored, similarity and references to classics, and arguing points. I am so busy and tired, I hardly put in a written review even if I took extensive notes. We are under a camera, so I can only tap the record and lean forward… I don’t want to be caught using the ap, and then I’m too tired to write something up. Thanks, Amy

Steven Booth | 1 comments Hello All,
Just some dude from SoCal. When I'm not working, I'm doing some sort of writing or other- baseball and music are my usual topics. Love all books, but thrillers are great to cleanse the pallet. Dig Lee Child, Brad Thor, Jack Carr and Michael Connelly.

if hope i am understanding your correctly. I think on the person's profile page, you can click on a directive next to the friend box that says more. this brings down a drop menu. The second option is compare books. That brings up all books that you share with that member, your rating and theirs. above this is also a listing of stats for each member's books in common. i don't see any way to filter the comparison by genre. I would try to do your comparison, but your profile page is set to private so I can't access the menu on that page to click the comparison. I hope that helps? if not, sorry.

Welcome Steven

My type of authors

action thrillers

Also recommend Mark Dawson, David Baldacci, Gregg Hurwitz, Chris Ryan, and can keep going.

message 9318: by Amy (new)

Amy | 1090 comments Dear Ray! thank you for trying to help. So I’ll go to my setting and remove “PRIVATE” first. I guess privacy is a double edged sword if you are asking a group for help. Please try again in a little while and see if you can get in there. I hope removing a privacy feature doesn’t hurt me somehow. Thanks, Amy

message 9319: by Amy (new)

Amy | 1090 comments To Ray again,
I had some time to update my privacy, but it was share your reviews with friends or everybody. I did select everybody. It was hard it pick that though. I guess I was embarrassed that after all the money spent on my education, I can’t express myself and I misspell a lo with the tiny keyboard and my poor vision, lol. Also, reviews open you up to criticism. *Why would I put a “5-star rating on a book that was just fun and entertaining, instead of saving that for classics, or, how come it was a 5 and you couldn’t think of anything to write on the review?

I am a full-time truck driver. I’m not even supposed to be on my phone. At the end of the day, I can barely function, let alone cough up a review. Then I look at my notes (if I made any) and don’t know how to quit editing them until it’s no fun anymore. I make promises that when I retire and I’m on an even tighter budget, I’ll reread some of my books that I gave high scores and try to say something helpful. We’ll see.

Kitty | 2 comments Hi Amy. What sort of books do you like reading?

message 9321: by Vickie (new)

Vickie | 4 comments Hello,

I'm Vickie, I live in Suffolk in England.
I really prefer thrillers over other genres.
My all time favourite author is Dean Koontz, I have been collecting his books for over 20 years now (that makes me feel old lol), my library also includes James Patterson, Karin Slaughter, Lisa Gardener, JP Delaney, Lisa Jewell, among others.

message 9322: by Amy (new)

Amy | 1090 comments Dear Kitty,
I happily accepted your friend request. Thanks to the earlier GR reader above who showed me how to compare our libraries and ratings, we’ve got a 75% compatibility in our books and ratings. I can only do this through the GR website, because the GR AP doesn’t offer the “compare”. Thanks for friending me. I’ll be looking at your 5-star reads!

I’m mostly a FICTION reader, with crime, legal thrillers, detective, predominating. But anything goes in my library. I’be had years and years of researching farm animals and veterinary issues, outbuildings, gardening, and decorating. I’m one of those who goes all out on projects which last last years. All of those phases were prior to Goodreads. My GR library now is primarily Fiction.

Nineteen90 | 1 comments Hello everyone,

My name is Rainebow and I’m currently living in Northern California. Reading is my favorite hobby and the most accessible at the moment since I’m a stay at home mom. I usually prefer non-fiction but have recently ventured into fiction and so far thrillers/mysteries are my favorite genres. I’m looking forward to getting some great recommendations from this group!

message 9328: by Amberx (new)

Amberx | 429 comments Hi All,

New to joining groups on GR. I came across this group after a new friend request from Lynne.

Hoping to find some good recommendations and take part in some challenges / buddy reads / group reads. I like the idea of "Pick it for me" so will give that a go! All for fun and lightheartedness for me, as I want to ensure that reading stays enjoyable rather than feeling pressured.

I am particularly drawn to crime/thrillers/murder mysteries - So I guess I am in the right place.

I know she's old school but a particular favourite of mine is Patricia Cornwell. I think I first discovered her books whilst having a browse in a charity shop! I love the pscyhological/forensic element and just find I don't want to put her books down (although reading them before bedtime isn't always a good idea)!

Would love to discover some new authors and their works, so please get in touch with recommendations.

With the PIFM do I just find a member of the group, look at their "want to read" and make a selection for them?

Many thanks and happy reading!

Laryn Ewoldt | 2 comments Hi everyone- I’m Laryn and I am a RN with my BSN! I do travel contracts through the Midwest where I have lived my entire life. My favorite place to travel is to the western US. I rescue kitties and they live at my acreage where I help them heal and then love them forever. 🥰
My better half and I are always busy. He does construction and works on a lot of side projects. I am traveling a lot and working many night shifts. I enjoy listening to audiobooks through the Libby app and of course reading my physical books when I can find time!! My boyfriend built me a large bookshelf a few years ago for Christmas, and we sectioned off a room in the house to be my “library”. 💓
I recently started a book-tok where I pull books from my shelf, read it, then rate it! If you want to follow along- I’ll follow yours, too. 🥰 @larynrae on tiktok !!
So excited to be a part of this group!!

message 9349: by Diana (new)

Diana | 1 comments Hello, fellow thriller readers! I live near Savannah, GA in the US and love reading mysteries, thrillers, horror, supernatural, and magical. I'm a developmental editor, book reviewer, beta reader, and book coach who specializes in these genres. I have too many favorite authors to list, but at the top are British/UK authors (Ann Cleeves, John Connolly, Neil Gaiman, Ellie Griffiths), non-UK authors who write stories that take place in the UK (Simone St. James, Deanna Raybourne, Anna Lee Huber, Rhys Bowen, Laurie King), and authors who combine mystery with the supernatural (some already listed). Apparently, that Agatha Christie book I read when I was 9 years old had a big impact on me...
