Hi I'm Christine. I love all kinds of books but right now I'm into thrillers. I have 4 books to review on NetGalley and they are all thrillers. I kinda need a break from them. So I love Christian biblical fiction so I'm ready to dive into one of my bookclub soon!! Since my job has been eliminated from the virus I have plenty of time to read and write!!!!
Greetings! I am James and I just joined the group about 24 hours ago. I currently live in Washington state with my wife and daughter. We moved here about six years ago after I retired from the U.S. Army (24 years of service). In terms of fiction, I mostly read mysteries and thrillers. I am reading some George Pelecanos right now and just picked up the new Nathan Heller novel by Max Allan Collins. I also have my eye on some hardcovers by Greg Iles and John Hart.
Looking forward to hearing from the other group members on what they like to read as well.

Hello All, The names Andrew and I'm Florida in the USA, I used to love to read when younger in high school and in college but due to stress and chaos of life I ended up having to drop it. However, I recently started picking it back up again and now I'm addicted! Thrillers are definitely my favorite genre, specifically books like Gone Girl or The Girl on the Train.
I'm also a fledgling author, working on a crime/mystery novel at this time but no where near completion and I'm not sure I ever will!
So excited to be a part of this group!
Welcome Andrew. This is mostly a reading group and you will find plenty of support in that regard but less about writing. So I would say that you will not finish your book unless you decide that you will finish it. Writing first time is just a learning process like anything else. If there is a problem why you are not writing you first have to identify it before you can progress by fixing it. It's a bit like digging a hole; if you know what the hole is for you know how deep to dig but if you have no target and you just have to kep digging you won't finish it. Decide what the end product is (even though it might change later) and take a s tep at a time. But keep taking steps.
Hi all! How did I not know there were groups on Goodreads🙃??

Hi I am from Bangladesh.I am a student and avid reader.I read almost all kind of books except horror.
Hello, everyone. I'm Paul, from San Diego, CA. I'm currently reading the Fools series by Alan Gordon (clever, well-researched, light mysteries in the 13th Century that show how Fools were the real powers behind thrones) and Abir Mukherjee's series in 1920 India. Both series are enjoyable, not great, but worth the read.
My faves are Michael Connelly, James Lee Burke, Ian Rankin, Ken Bruen and Don Winslow.
Looking for suggestions. Big thanks in advance.
Welcome Paul

Hi all! My name is Catherine and psychological thrillers are definitely my favorite genre, really excited to be a part of this group :)
Hi Aditya here. Thanks Sean for asking me to join.I prefer gritty crime and noirs and generally stay away from action thrillers. My favorite authors are Raymond Chandler and James Lee Burke. Besides those two you also can't go wrong with James Ellroy, James Crumley, Dennis Lehane, Lawrence Block, Ross Macdonald, Dashiell Hammett among others. Recently started Walter Mosley and he will probably get on that list.
Also I am a huge movie buff, and my movie tastes are much more eclectic. The genre or the time period does not matter, if I hear it is good I will see it.
Hi, Aditya. I joined this group a couple days ago, so I noticed your post...welcome.Curious if you've read Michael Connelly, Ken Bruen, or Ian Rankin.

Hi Paul, thanks. I have read everything by Connelly except his most recent one, I finally gave up on him last year, Connelly was good at the start of his career but he is very formulaic now. His prose was never as good as the other authors I have mentioned and now even his plots are generic.
Have not read Bruen or Rankin, but I mainly read American authors. The major exception is Tana French and she is very good.
Yes, I agree that later Bosch are not as crisp/original/fresh as earlier ones, but I feel the same way about the Robichaux books. However, I'll read every new addition to both series, partially just to see where the authors take the protagonists. Also agree re T. French. If you want to expand into more British/Irish stuff (about as gritty and noir as it gets), you might consider the following:
Knots & Crosses...1st Rebus book by Rankin
The Guards...1st Jack Taylor book by Bruen
Dead I Well May Be...1st in Michael Forsythe "Dead" Trilogy by Adrian McKinty
I'm well aware "Brit Lit" isn't everyone's cuppa, but I recommend these because you specified gritty and noir...happy reading.
Paul wrote: "Yes, I agree that later Bosch are not as crisp/original/fresh as earlier ones, but I feel the same way about the Robichaux books. However, I'll read every new addition to both series, partially jus..."Robicheaux is more repetitive than Bosch. But I love Burke's prose, probably the best I have read in crime fiction. So I don't mind the plots which are sometimes exact replicas of each other. I mainly gave up on Connelly because it seems he has started to phone in, specially after Bosch became an Amazon series. His heart really is not in it anymore whereas Burke might be repetitive but he is still an excellent writer.
And I have been planning to read Rankin for a long time but somehow I keep discovering new authors who sidetrack me. I have got The Cold, Cold Ground by Adrian McKinty with me, so I will get to it soon. Thanks for the recommendations.
Not sure if I'm replying in the right place, Aditya, but you keep on saying things I totally agree with--latest re Robichaux books beautiful prose.Anyhow, you mentioned McKinty's Cold Cold Ground. That's the first of his Sean Duffy series (7 so far I think). Good reads!
His Michael Forsythe trilogy is also excellent, but an opposite protoganist. Dead I Well May Be is the first one.
Hello,I'm looking forward to reading interesting comments and getting some leads on new thrillers I haven't read yet. I love the Barry Eisler books with John Rain and Livia Lone. Also, a big fan of the Sigma Force novels by James Rollins and Van Lustbader's Nicholas Linner books.
I generally try to read a couple of books a month - one science fiction and one thriller - but time is also working against me so I never quite meet my goal. Oh well, there's always next year.
And while I'm at it I want to plug my favorite app - hoopladigital - which brings the library to my desktop and devices (since my library is closed now). Thanks and look forward to some great reads.
Hello and welcome Melvin

I'm back. I've been away from Goodreads for many years pursuing other interests, but now that I'm in semi-retirement, I need to expand my interests and, since I am a man of books, I've returned.
