Please Introduce Yourself, Let's All Get To Know Each Other
Eldon, I've written a series called The Knox Mission, which follows FBI Agent John Knox on his pursuit of various assassins - as he attempts to uncover a certain entity holding the puppet strings that effect the direction of United States. The first book is Misguided, which centers around a man who seeks revenge for the death of his family. John Knox, his protégé and girlfriend Agent Beth White join up with Inspector Malik Sharif of Interpol to catch this 'Jesus Assassin.'
Book 2 puts Knox and Malik together as they try to capture an assassin inside a prison, taking out Russian mafia. Malik finds his father in the prison, and both agents encounter a skillful for known as The Arbiter.
Book 3 has the agents trying to catch up to a man known as The Klansman, who kills both cops and gang bangers in hopes that it sets the city into chaos. Meanwhile, Knox helps an important witness learn how to face his fears as they close in on the Klansman.
All the while, Knox and Malik get closer to finding out just who is pulling the puppet strings.
Jason will be one of my next few books, that is for sure.

Thanks, Eldon. I'm also a fan of Sherlock Holmes as you'll also see by the pastiche between the two in my writings. And as this video shows, I'm also a Ringer, though not a hard core one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9GJJ...

There's something about the books (the length I think) that I find intimidating!
So is there a good thriller inside you? Have you written a novel yet or do you plan too?

So is it designed as a trilogy or is there more to come?
There is more to come; but I plan on creating a series of mini-series for my whole 'John Knox' universe. Just sent Book 1 of the next mini-series The Hunters off to the editor. It will be called Tracking Game. But it does pick right up with the state of things left at the end of Book 3 of The Knox Mission.

I like both the books and the movies re: LOTR but since I grew up in the 80's, this is my version of LOTR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKEo0... That said, I won't turn down an opportunity to watch either the 1980 Ralph Bakshi version (which includes every STAR WARS geek's favorite protocol droid voice actor as Legolas) or the Peter Jackson versions. BTW, Gandalf's narrating the Bakshi intro.
As you heard from my "Welcome to the Family" URL, I have rather eclectic tastes in music. It'll go from something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjsWr... to something like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtTC3... in the space of just two videos.
As to your question about a novel, I simply haven't figured out a story I want to write badly enough to turn it into a novel. In addition to those stories I have already posted on GR, I have another one perking away like a coffee pot in my head. All I can say about that one, without giving away too many details is that it's about a family in a still independent Ireland on a parallel Earth where the Crusades (as we know of them) never happened and that the creatures of folklore are real and interact with humans on a daily basis...usually out in the open...not hidden away as in the Dresdenverse of Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden series. More like the idea behind Jim's Codex Alera https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dre... and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_A... That said, the maternal side of this family really can claim descent from Vlad III Țepeș Dracul and Ilona Szilágyi. If the guy's name is familiar, that was deliberate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilona_S... Let's see if you ladies and gentlemen can figure out why. :)

I'm thinking of doing something similar with Singularity (the book I'm presently writing). Was thinking of writing some short stories between it and the next book to sort of highlight back stories and/or minor characters.

What's your debut novel about?
Yes Eldon, it does keep things fresh. But I also kind of have to do it because I keep thinking up new stories with a new character from one of my other stories. Gives me a chance to get to know the characters I like most - better.

No one going to guess why the name of the male maternal ancestor sounds familiar? Vlad III Țepeș Dracul?

Have you ever read Dracula the Undead by Stoker's great grand nephew Dacre? It was better than I expected a sequel to Dracula would be!
Not all of it. I read enough of it to be turned OFF by Dr. Seward's drug addiction and the inclusion of Countess Bathory...and the implication that even BEFORE she was turned into a vampire somehow she was a flaming lesbian. Not that I normally have anything against lesbian or homosexual characters, but she just didn't feel like she was well written. Another reason her character turned me off is that the origin of both her vampirism and feud with Dracula are NOT explained in even the most drive-by shooting way.
Amber wrote: "Not all of it. So against such a low bar it was better than I thought it would be lol. And Seward's drug addiction felt natural to me...given what he'd been through.
Interesting point. Another thing that turned me off was thinking "WTF does the TITANIC have to do with Dracula?"
Amber wrote: "Interesting point. Another thing that turned me off was thinking "WTF does the TITANIC have to do with Dracula?""Can't remember exactly when it was written...but for a time there the Titanic was everywhere lol

Yeah. This book wasn't quite so odd, though given the author's last name there are nods to his grandfather's legendarium: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... First wife's maiden name is Sackville...Where have we heard THAT name before? *wink*

Sounds interesting...might give it a try.
It was Simon's debut novel so all the problems you'd expect of a first time author are there.Who's new here today?
Hi, Liko. Here's your "Welcome to the family" URL: Little Deuce Coupe-The Beach Boys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXFFL...
just an idea... maybe start with a brief action sequence describing the parents' accident...then jump forward and tell the story from there
