I love that series because it is so dark. I wouldn't want every book I read to be dark but it's a nice change. I can't wait for the next in this series.

message 1957: by Alisa (new)

Alisa Speaking of dark I just finished September Moon (Alexa O'Brien Huntress, #8) by Trina M. Lee Loved it. Lot's of stuff happens in this book. None of it good for the MC's.

Also recently finished Knight Avenged (Circle of Seven, #2) by Coreene Callahan and really enjoyed it. I don't read a lot of historical pnr/uf but I really like this series.

Thethriftybooklady (readingdiva8511) | 109 comments well I finished Night Broken (Mercy Thompson, #8) by Patricia Briggs and although I hated Christy I loved the book. Another great installment of the Mercy Thompson series. Now I'm about to read One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, #1) by Janet Evanovich because I've heard a lot of good things about it and scored the book for 99 cents at a thrift store.

Help me out Alisa? MC's? I'm a full novel and maybe a couple shorts behind, but I'm thinking this may finally win the read-reread contest I have every time I end one series and look for another. This is one of my favorite PNR/ erotica type series. I was really excited to see the next short story will be ALL AYRS!! Oh my GAWD he's my favorite character in the series! I don't get Chaz at all, he's a puppy to piddle on the wealthy, mature yet super hot man's carpet. I've been his lapdog since the first paragraph about him!!

MC's are Main Characters. You must get caught up. This book is HUGE. You really need to read both Willow and Kale's novellas before you read this. Whisper to a Scream (Alexa O'Brien, Huntress) by Trina M. Lee -Willow and Sunset to Sunrise (Alexa O'Brien Huntress, #7.5) by Trina M. Lee --Kale. And then of course be caught up on the last main book. I too love Arys. Although I felt guilty about that the first few books cuz he was so bad. :) I saw that novella of his too. I preordered that baby the second I saw it. The end of this new book is told from his point of view. Can't wait to hear what you think about this book. It's not too often I come across another fan of this series.

Andrea Kitajo | 3 comments I just finished reading "Betrayed book 2: Road to Redemption" which is book 6 in the Law of the Lycans series by Nicky Charles. I like this series because the authors links all of the books together by showing the relationships between the character but still making each able to stand alone.

Sandra | 4734 comments Just finished Who Needs Enemies (Harri Phillecki, PI, #1) by Keri Arthur a different supe mix to the usual Keri Arthur mix. This one is Fae, Dragons, Ogres, Trolls etc. Liked the characters & the plot and want to read more, however, did feel a little underdone or perhaps a bit like her early work.

I wasn't as bothered by the ending as many readers. First, I wasn't that attached to Eugenie's character and second, I understood the reasoning behind her decisions.

Have you read KMM's Fever series? If so, then you will probably enjoy this one. There are many similarities.

If you can get a good deal and have been wanting to try them, they are worth reading, especially if you know about the disappointing ending. Sometimes if you have lower expectations going in it is better.

Veronica (readingonthefly) Finished Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead and The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2) by Richelle Mead . While I'm waiting to get my hands on the next book in that series, I read Mutineer (Kris Longknife, #1) by Mike Shepherd and Circle of Fire (Damask Circle, #1) by Keri Arthur (which was just so-so).

Just started Premonitions by Jamie Schultz last night, about 6-7 chapters in and liking it so far.

I preordered Arys book as soon as I was finished with the newsletter she sent out too! I'm so excited, and I always try to read the short stories along with the books, in the right order. I have a little OCD when it comes to missing parts of the series just because I didn't read the shorts. Been there, done that too many times!! I don't care for Kale at all, he's too creepy for my tastes, but that makes me want to read his book even more, to find out WHY he's creepy. I kinda don't get the inclusion of Willow at this point, but again, it makes me want to read his story even more, to find out if he plays a bigger part in the picture than I realize.

WHAT??? It's been quite a while since I read the first few, and knew there had to be more in the future, but SIX?? Sheesh! I'm so out of touch on this series too!! And aren't they the ones that when they shift between wolf and human, the human is dressed in exactly the same clothes as when they shifted to wolf? That always drove me a little crazy, but was a very small annoyance.

Veronica (readingonthefly) Finished Premonitions by Jamie Schultz and really, really enjoyed it. You get alternating viewpoints in third person so that took some adjustment on my part since I'm so used to the first person narrative, but the story sucked me in pretty quickly. It's like a cross between Ocean's Eleven and Constantine, bit of a noir feeling to all of it. It has next to no romance so it's pretty straight up hard nosed UF. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Alisa I finished Obsession (Talisman, #1) by Sofia Grey which I liked. Just a bit of the paranormal in it but book two it takes off Craving (Talisman #2) by Sofia Grey I really liked the second one. All the paranormal stuff starts coming together in book it.

I'm listening to Frost Burned (Mercy Thompson, #7) by Patricia Briggs on audio. It's just meh so far for me. I don't know why but it's just not holding my attention. Since I just bought all those Sandman Slim books on sale I think I will switch to Kill the Dead (Sandman Slim, #2) by Richard Kadrey

Sara | 860 comments Been a while since I've posted in this thread...here's what I've been reading...

Saga #1 by Brian K. Vaughan - an excellent book - I highly recommend it to any science fiction fans

Captain America, Volume 1 Castaway In Dimension Z by Rick Remender , Captain America, Volume 2 Castaway In Dimension Z Book Two by Rick Remender , Captain America, Vol. 3 Loose Nuke by Rick Remender - The first two volumes were excellent. I really enjoyed Cap as a father and wish we could have more scenes of Steve and Ian interacting. The third was okay.

Uncanny Avengers, Vol. 1 The Red Shadow by Rick Remender . Uncanny Avengers, Vol. 2 The Apocalypse Twins by Rick Remender , Uncanny Avengers Vol. 3 Ragnarok Now by Rick Remender - Not a Scarlet Witch or Kang fan but I've been enjoying the storyline.

Wolverine and the X-Men, Vol. 1 by Jason Aaron , Wolverine and the X-Men, Vol. 2 by Jason Aaron , Wolverine and the X-Men, Vol. 3 by Jason Aaron , Wolverine and the X-Men, Vol. 4 by Jason Aaron , Wolverine and the X-Men, Vol. 5 by Jason Aaron - I'm loving this series - it's simply fun and the kids are adorable.

Fantastic Four, Vol. 1 New Departure, New Arrivals by Matt Fraction - I bought this for the start of the FF replacements story. Scott Lang and Medusa are some of my favorite characters so this was a must buy for me.

Fear Itself by Matt Fraction was okay.

I also read Velveteen vs. The Junior Super Patriots (Velveteen vs., #1) by Seanan McGuire and Velveteen vs. The Multiverse (Velveteen vs., #2) by Seanan McGuire - highly recommended for any comic book fans.

I'm currently reading Poison Promise (Elemental Assassin, #11) by Jennifer Estep , Powerless Against You by Gail Simone , Hawkeye Volume 1 by Matt Fraction , and A Fistful of Charms (The Hollows, #4) by Kim Harrison .

I love Saga, and Jason Aaron is brilliant in just about everything he writes. I generally stay away from books like Cap and FF, though Uncanny Avengers has been ok. Do you read any independent books? I can recommend Rachel Rising and The Sixth Gun. Also did you read the second Velveteen on ebook?

message 1982: by Sara (new)

Sara | 860 comments Rachel Rising is on my list of things to read - I love Terry Moore's Strangers In Paradise and Echo so I'm sure I'll like this one too. I haven't read the Sixth Gun yet either.

I read comics from all the companies. Lately it seems I'm reading more from the smaller companies. DC and Marvel, especially DC, have been very "meh" for me the past few years. Marvel has a few titles I'm loving but it's the smaller companies that are producing the titles that knock it out of the park.

I "read" the second Velveteen via audiobook. I couldn't find an ebook copy.

L.E. Doggett (ldwriter2) | 24 comments New here so this is my first post--not counting the introduction one.

I am reading two books.

One is "Dawn"s Early Light" by Pip Ballantine, Tee Morris. It's the third Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences book. Steampunk with spies.

An interesting take on things. Especially with one of the hero's new car. It's streamlined, low and steam powered with a couple of rows of seats and makes a noise like chitty chitty bang bang.

And the other one is "Kris Longknife Defender". Number 11 in a space opera series for those who don't know. This one is a bit different and gets more into the opera.

I've read and enjoyed all three books in the Ministry series. To me, the books are in the spirit of an Indiana Jones movie crossed with the original British Avengers tv series. It's meant to be mad cap fun.

This past week I've finished Death, Taxes, and Green Tea Ice Cream (Tara Holloway, #6) by Diane Kelly , Ill-Gotten Panes by Jennifer McAndrews , Chili con Carnage (Chili Cook-Off #1) by Kylie Logan , Poison Promise (Elemental Assassin, #11) by Jennifer Estep , The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines, #4) by Richelle Mead , Fireborn (Souls of Fire, #1) by Keri Arthur and Night Owls (Night Owls, #1) by Lauren M. Well, I grew up watching Mrs Peel & John Steed, and they were never stodgy. I quite liked the story, just felt the characterisations let it down a little.

But Books is not who he seemed to be in the first book, a couple of big surprises in that area. Over all I think the books are a good sample of steampunk. And an action serious. But obviously we all have our own tastes.

L.E. Doggett (ldwriter2) | 24 comments Since I am new here I thought I might add some books I have read recently, so you may get more of an idea of what I read and like.

Those include the Writer's of the Future anthology V30. Some different stories in this one and color illustrations in the back of the book. Their new executive editor has different tastes than the Late K D Wentworth--and I mean different not better.

I also recently finished, "The Misfortune Cookie" by Laura Resnick. My take on that is it is a more light hearted Urban Fantasy series with romance in the mix. I love the scene where the MC has a discussion about her boyfriend not calling- which is all I will say about it so as not to add a huge spoiler.

And there was "The Grendel Affair" by Lisa Shearin. Yes, that Grendel. This series isn't quiet as good as Shearin's fantasy series, but still worth reading. I reviewed it on my blog.

Hi, L.E. I enjoy the Esther Diamond series too and agree with you that it's more of a light, humorous urban fantasy. I'm only up to Polterheist (Esther Diamond, #5) by Laura Resnick so I haven't gotten to the scene you mention. I hope get caught up with the series soon.

I've also read The Grendel Affair and would consider that a light urban fantasy as well. I've not read the fantasy series by the same author so I can't compare.

I finished Night Owls (Night Owls, #1) by Lauren M. Roy and liked it. I'm still working on Veil of Lies A Medieval Noir (Crispin Guest, #1) by Jeri Westerson . It's okay but it hasn't really hooked me in yet. So I've put that aside for a bit while I read Little Black Book of Murder A Blackbird Sisters Mystery by Nancy Martin .

Lisarenee | 2046 comments I really liked it. I think it was better than the first. I was reading it and found myself thinking, "Those darn pesky humans." and started cracking up as I realized what I'd just thought. lol Actually humans play a very small roll in this book. It's mostly dealing with the vampire origins and the demon who spawned them. There is a trial that the Moonbound clan chief decided to participate in to save his son, a son who has yet to be born or conceived. I keep wondering if this series will eventually branch out to her others.
