Dec 2017 89/201 = 44%

Went up 8% since July, so not too bad. Pretty good end of the year. Getting to 100 read would be a goal for me too Darren!

Just to let you know, Darren, the total book count for 2017 is 201 not 205. I just check and Katy verified it. That's good news for you as it brings your percentage up to 41%. Yippee for you!!!

Darren (dazburns) | 2148 comments Bat-Cat - you're assuming I haven't read any of January's books already! ;o)

Terris | 4385 comments Well, I'm up to 170/201, which is 85%, with 15 on the list for 2018! So, I'm getting up there! And there are 12 that I don't even want to read. Of course, I've been working on this since high school ( over 40 years!!)!! So, everybody, just keep reading :)

Hi Darren. Well no, I actually wasn't assuming that. I was just remarking that if you are calculating through the end of this year, the 4 books slated for January would not be included in the totals up to 12/31/17 whether you have read them or not. I happened upon this realization while doing my own calculations and corrected my error. Just thought I would pass on the info.

By the way, very nice to talk with you again and glad you are still here. :-)

GW | 167 comments To date I've read 135 of the book shelve's listed books. Of course, I have read many of them over the last 25 years and not part of the book club's suggestions when they are up. Classics are still fun and I love looking for new titles to read off the monthly lists.

Where are you looking? I'm seeing 205.

Does it maybe make a difference whether you are counting the books selected for future months or not? Perhaps that's the difference in count. I wouldn't count the future ones.

Yes, that is the solution to the mystery, and I agree not to count them. I was just looking at the totals of the listropia page. The total for December is 201, so it was back in November, I made a mistake.

George P. | 422 comments I plan to read A Room of One's Own in the next couple weeks, which will make 101 out of 205 (49.3%). I would like to move up a couple of the other dozen in the shelf which I haven't read but are in my next 200 to-reads, so I could get above 50%. Also want to try to read at least 2/3 of the future picks. Though not as high as many of you I think half is pretty good.

There's no compact list, in one piece. The group has read enough by now that the names & authors no longer fit into a single post, and things like the group bookshelves & listopia aren't printable.

I have a list on my personal challenge thread - Posts 3 & 4 here:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

You'll have to expand spoilers and copy/paste, and sort it (and perhaps delete my comments on some of the ones I refuse to read), but it's the most printable list that exists that I'm aware of.

I wonder if there is a way to import it into a spreadsheet and print from there? I know I can do that with my own bookshelf. Let me work on this a bit and I'll see what I can come up with.

Darren (dazburns) | 2148 comments er... you can just print from your browser

the drop-down allows you to display up to 200, but you can just change that manually to 205 or greater so that they're all listed at once:
https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
then er... print.

True, though that's not very compact, so it'd waste a lot of paper & ink.

You could shelve & flag all the current & past group reads, export your bookshelves, and filter the shelves column for that tag. That'd be a lot of work, but it'd give all sorts of info - number of pages for the default edition, pub dates, etc.

A fast way to do this is to make a fake account, and click the “want to read” on the listopia list and then go though the rest of the steps. This way you skip the tagging each book, which is the time consuming part.

Carlo | 167 comments I find making a note of the total number of unread books is useful because the % of read books can increase and you think you are doing well until you realise that the number of unread books has also gone up at the same time!

apr 17: 48/174 = 28%, unread = 126 (joined date)
dec 17: 92/201 = 46%, unread = 109

Trying to read the entire shelf is the definition of Catch-22, by the way it's a book on our shelf. We add forty books to the shelf each year, how does one stay even let alone catch up?

I average reading about 60 books per year. currently I have 42 unread books on our shelf. If I read nothing but our new books and those unread books, it will take two years to completely read our whole shelf.

I think the best goal is to pick a percentage of the shelf you would like to read, for me it's 85%, I've hit 80% once. I'm currently reading two group books, I should have them both finished in about 10 days, but on the first we add three. Resulting in a drop of one, leaving me at 43 books unread, when I'm at 42 now.

Unwinnable, but so much fun trying.

I only manage to break even since I've read about half the group reads before they become group reads.

Maria Soria de Koifman | 3 comments I have just joined the group this month and definitely will be trying to catch up. It will be fun even though 100% is not a must for me since there are some books that I will definitely not read.

It is really nice to have a list of great books to check up when looking for something to read!

Many of the books I read a long time ago but so far I have only read 33 out of 201 :(

Like Melanti, I had read over half of the books before they became group reads--and it is still an impossible task to keep up. Realizing that should make us all just relax and enjoy them as we read them.

message 641: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 1895 comments January 1, 2018

132/205 or 64%

I will probably decrease my percent this year since I plan to focus more on books by women writers, and I'm not sure how many group reads I will attempt. Fortunately I've already read all of January's books, so I didn't fall behind any yet.

message 642: by [deleted user] (new)

So far I have read 42 of the books listed. I have read most of Dickens, Tolstoy, and Dostoyevsky. I just need to catch up on the "current classics" list. I also read a lot of history books which slows me down in the other categories. For example, I finished "Stalingrad: The Fateful Siege, 1942–1943" by Antony Beevor. (I had read "Life and Fate" by Vasily Grossman, previously). Anyway, every reader knows that books spin a web which causes us to explore an ever-expanding list of books to read.

That is so true about the web, Don. Someday I hope to say I've read most of Dickens, Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky--I bet they enhance your history reading too!

Pat the Book Goblin I’ve read exactly 60 on that list. I surprised myself!! I want to read at least 10 on that list this year including War and Peace, Great Expectations, A Tale of Two Cities, Bleak House and a few shorter ones like the Pearl and the Awakening.

I've done a new count and I'm now at 116 or 56% when I finish "If on a Winter's Night..."! [tied with Aubrey] I hadn't counted some of the shorts (because I don't usually mark those as "read" because they're not real "books". Also I'll have 3 out of 4 of the Feb reads because I've read a couple of them before.
