How many have you read? (Reading the books on our group bookshelf)

At the moment we have 201 books on our shelf, so the third list would only have one book on it. I wish they'd make it so it accurately recorded all of the books, not just the first 100.

I see the idea that you can vote on all books you have read and easily count them that way.
Personally I prefer just one list and the most liked (or read) books filter to the top. I have voted for all the books I have read. At 100 I will have to shelf books instead. (like a caching-up-read shelf)
I have no problem manually counting my total, as I have a few "special" cases to consider anyway, plus I like scrolling through all the books from time to time in order to make sure I've shelved all the ones I'm likely to get round to ever reading...I don't vote for a book if it's already significantly higher in the list than I agree with - this way it might be a while before I've registered 100 votes! ;o)

Which could mean anything, but at least the idea is out there ... :)
Though, like Darren I tend to end up manually counting at some point between liking to remember which books are on the shelf and having some alternative exclusive shelves. :D
This at least sounds hopeful, until then I guess we will have to settle for the first page count, and manually count the second. The third page only has one book, next month it will have five.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't care about it for myself. I know what I think and I can count them manually. I just thought it would be interesting to see a more accurate representation of how many people in the group have read a certain book and how well they liked it. Then if I wanted to catch up on the list of unread ones, I could start with the ones the most people have read and liked. Also, I'd more likely nominate a re-read that hadn't been read by most. Stuff like that.
Sounds like it's too difficult though so no big deal at all. I only brought it up in case it was real easy. But that's a great suggestion for people who would like to rank their books anyway and don't like to count them every time.

Our Listopia shelf would be helped, at least enhanced, if we had more members vote for their favorite books, or say five star reads. We only have 98 members that have voted on the list

So, when you vote, do you just vote for your favorite books or 5 star books or what? I haven't voted yet, so not exactly sure what is needed. Thanks!

I really don't remember the last time I looked it over, but I like that number, 89!
Thanks Sue! Have a great Thanksgiving!

You can vote for your favorite books by any method you choose. I vote for my five star reads. As people vote the more popular books move up the list. At the top right of the page goodreads shows how many in the top 100 you have voted for. You are limited to 100 total votes.

Thank you! I'll do it now :)
In April 2016 I had read 92/142 for 65%
March 2017 I had read 133/175 for 76%
As of this month, I have read 153/201 for 76%
Looks like I am not making any progress, but I had a number of very good reads off this list this year.

How about placing the link in the group description?
Or somewhere else on top of the main page.
I checked my numbers and I am up to 81/201...about 40%, up from about 25% last year at this time, so not bad progress.
My final stats for the end of the year are 85 out of 201 or 42% of the group reads. I went up 6 books from when I posted in November. It helps when you read all the current group reads! I'm including 1 that I've started since I know I'll finish it before the end of the year. June 2016 14/148 - 9%
Dec 2016 44/168 - 26%
June 2017 64/183 - 35%
Dec 2017 85/201 - 42%
I feel like 50% is within reach for next year. I just have to read 2 of the group reads each month plus 15-16 prior reads. I plan on reading all the Jan selections and Feb is looking like the winners will all be books I've already read recently so I'll be off to a great start.
Congrats! 3 books a month, more or less does, sound achievable when you have previously read group reads in the mix. I think I barely crossed the 80% threshold again earlier this week, but am going to drop below once voting is over.
1/1/16 ~ 34/130 ~ 26%1/1/17 ~ 54/168 ~ 32%
1/1/18 ~ 65/201 ~ 32%
Didn't make any progress this past year but plan on hitting it big time in 2018. However, if I can manage to read one more from the list I can bump it up to 33% - resulting in a positive gain. Hmmm... :-)
Good luck to all in the coming year. May your percentages increase! ;-)

Thanks Melanti! I think it's amazing to be near 80% because there's always going to be a certain percentage that you won't ever be interested in.

Maintaining is progress Bat Cat. You added 9 books which is great!
I have read 46/201. Some I read so long ago, it feels like they shouldn't count. I have at least six on my list for next year. Slowly but surely.
Sue wrote: "Thanks Melanti! There's been multiple times that I haven't been enthusiastic about a group read selection, but then when I got around to trying it, it ended up being really good.
Even still... About a third to half of the remaining books are either books I attempted and gave up on or are by authors I actively dislike, so the highest I could realistically get would be around 90%.

I always count them! There's too many books I had to read for assigned school reading that I never would have gotten through if I hadn't been forced. I'd hate to have to start over.

Yep! If you'd given me this list of books when I first joined Goodreads, I'd be about where you are now, so it's a great starting spot.

This is ao true! Especially when a person enjoys reading books other than classics!
I have read 147/201, which is 73%.
There are 11 books on the list that I do not want to read for one reason or another.
So, I have read 83% of the books that I intend to read. That leaves me 33 books to read to clear the list.
Of course, this is semantics because we will keep adding and I will not be able to participate in all the reads...so I'll be satisfied if I can keep the 70 percentile going.

June 2017 81 out of 186 = 43.54 %Aug 2017 86 out of 192 = 43.54 %
Oct 2017 88 out of 198. = 44.4%.
Nov 2017 92 out of 201 = 45.7%
Dec 2017 93 out of 201 = 46.3%
(Something strange about those totals. Some books that hasn't been added yet?)
50% of 201 is about 101. minus 93 = 8 books away from 50%. We add 40 books to the group shelf in one year. So to hit 50% I have to read 28 books. That is a lot for me (I usually read about 40 in a year).
Yes, catching up isn't an easy thing to do, JB. My total is high because I have always loved classics and started with 50% of the list already read. Every year I read a few more, but my percentage doesn't fluctuate much. Now that you have put it into numbers, I can see why.

In the first or second post of this thread is a link to the group bookshelf. That's where my number came from yesterday.
I am at 155 of 205 after 30+ years of dedicated reading and two years on goodreads. That makes it 76%, so I am getting close to 80%. Maybe in 2018.There are a few books that I am not planning on ever reading.
I've read 44 out of 205. So it is about 21%. Quite an achievement for me, as I returned to classical reading only in last quarter of 2016after so many years.

I actually really enjoyed Lolita, but understand why you wouldn't want to read it. There were some on the bookshelf that made me think ugh. I don't think reading every single one on the shelf will ever be a goal of mine.
I was actually surprised that I enjoyed Lolita too, mainly because of the author's excellent writing style.I am not going to read A Handmaid's Tale. I have read one book by Margaret Atwood and that was enough. She is a Canadian author and I am Canadian, but there are so many other Canadian authors that I like much better.
Some of the others are Remains of the Day, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Stand and Perfume: The story of a murder.
Not that I have anything against them, but mainly because there are so many more I really want to read.
I read Lolita and wished I hadn't. Felt the same about The Stand. Didn't deserve the time or effort.
Read A Handmaid's Tale the year it was published and loved it. But then I am an Atwood fan, big time. Loved Remains of the Day and Memoirs of a Geisha as well, but Perfume is on my list of books to pass on. I will not read Mary Poppins or Matilda.

Ha! I am Canadian too, and read some Atwood when I was young... in the 80s and 90s. I feel traitorous to say I don't like her writing, but I really don't. A Handmaid's Tale was one that I read way back when, but there was another that I just Could. Not. Finish. No more Atwood, thanks!
The ones I likely will not read are Alias Grace, Vanity Fair (I have tried several times and can't get into or through it), and A Hundred Years of Solitude.
I've read Perfume twice. I thought it was amazing when I was 21, and then again when I was 40ish... and I wondered at the years I spent remembering how I thought it was amazing. My tastes in reading have changed: My memory of it fooled me and I was disappointed.
I may be wrong about this but I come up with a 201 book total through the end of this year. It seems to me that the 205 figure of books on the bookshelf includes the 4 books designated for the January 2018 read. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks. :-)
I'm now at 146/205, 71.2%. It's so hard to keep up, but I'm hoping to reach 75% by the end of next year. Like others, I'm not interested in every book on our shelves.
