Mary, I saw on the Violet Femmes thread that Mr Elf had asked those team members for some song choices. I'm guessing that as soon as he's got them all collected, with links added, he'll post them early again. So it probably all depends on how quickly the song choices come in from those ladies, maybe?
I've been noticing some strategy-talk on the team threads about individual vs team points. I think you're on the right track with that one!

Just to ensure everyone is now aware, Captains, would you please let your teams knnow that should you have the highest score in any week, each team member will then be asked to send me a Private Message with the Song Title and Artist of your choice. (Please do not post your song choice on any of the threads, as this will give others an unfair advantage.) I will then collect all your choices and add the relevant lyric and Youtube links before posting on the game threads. The only criteria for the song choices are below:
* It must be in English
* It must have been in the Top 50 in any country, at some point in time from the 1960s to 2012.
We are now halfway through Week 1 and I thrust that you are all enjoying the game so far and the new point system is not too confusing. The
3 more days until the new song!

Ummmm, Mr Elf... the other mods and I have been talking... and we think it should be the First Team to Finish, not the team with the highest points. Gisela & Susan mentioned that the team with the highest points could possibly be the one that doesn't finish reading til the 6th or 7th day, which would give us all less time to plan. And Lisa Kay also mentioned that at least this way the fast readers are rewarded, even if they don't get the highest score. And I nodded and said Mmm-hmm a lot, in a very helpful way. What does everyone else think?

It makes more sense that finishing early decides the winner
I like the idea of the first team to finish each week to be able to pick the next songs no matter if the won in points or not. I liked having the possible songs ahead of time even though I didn't end up using the book I set aside for the song that was chosen.

I think it's a great idea that the first ones to finish get to pick the songs. I don't have much time on my weekends so it was really nice knowing the potential songs in advance. Planning it half the fun xD *Bounces up and down with impatience*

Not a bad idea to have the first team to finish to pick the songs BUT if a particular team has very fast readers, then that team could end up picking the songs EVERY week and not give the chance to other teams.So I don't disagree for this to be the criteria, I just don't think it should be used in every week.
Just a thought. :)
Maybe if the team that wins has already gotten to pick then the honor could go to the 2nd team etc.., But really if every team wants to pick at least once then they need to try and finish quickly. If every team has picked one week but the team that finishes last-and they dont' finish until Thursday-then what happens if the song choices aren't given in time?

I think it should be a reward for reading fast, but it could really help a team out too much if they get to pick every week. How about the team that finishes first gets to pick songs, but they can't pick the songs in back to back weeks.
Example: Violet picked this week. When Violet finishes first next week we wouldn't pick the books because we did it this week. It would go to the second team to finish. Then when Violet finishes first again on the third week we would get to pick songs again because we had a week off.

You can do still do fastest team, if you mix it up with other categories: (For example)
Weeks 2, 4, 6 = Fastest Team
Weeks 3, 5, 7 = 5 Fastest Members (must be from different teams)
You can even do another category if you find a way to tie to speed which I think it's important so we don't wait until the end of the week to see results.
You ladies have some very good ideas!
I like the switch to fastest members. Might have to rotate that, and fastest team, with defaulting back to the mods choosing.
