Just linking to Mr Elf's post in the How To Play thread:The Score:
7. Individual points that the players would accrue through the comp each week:
(by Link to song)
Shelf= 1 point - (only the shelf linked under that week's song counts for this)
Cover= 2 points - (item on the cover links to the title, video clip or lyrics)
Plot= 3 points - (one of the plot points links to the song)
Title= 4 points - (song title and book title have matching key words i.e. not a preposition)
Name= 5 points - (First or last name of author, artist or character matches)
Setting= 6 points - (first published date matches release date or place matches lyrics)
Vi, just going from this, the battle on the cover linking to the title would count as Cover, not name, for 2 points.
The plot would be another 3 points.
Giving you 5 so far.
I'm just trying to work out from the blurb if the setting place is a battle ground or war camp for a major part of the book, because if so, that could be another link for 6 points.
Melissa wrote: "I know a gun counts for cover points would sword count?"Does a gun count? The song mentions a rifle, but would a hand gun work too?
Mary, The only limit as far as individual points go is that you can only have one link per category. Yep, you have that score right, and I think you should be able to link to plot as well, not from a battle but from the lyrics to plot similarities.

I'm going to say yes and hope one of the other mods doesn't disagree.

I read the book. I think it qualifies for the setting points, the battle in the book is a major plot point and most of the book takes part on the battleground or the camp.
Hey guys (silly questions) does a mission match a battle and undercover match change (They ain't never gonna change)
Ab2y wrote: "Hey guys (silly questions) does a mission match a battle and undercover match change (They ain't never gonna change)"Ab2y, I'm not sure I understand the last part of the question.

Part of the lyrics
Okay, Ab2y, I would say a "mission" and "a battle" are the same; still, I'd let CaroB rule on that one. Also, I still don't understand the last part of the question. I don't see the word "undercover." Unless you are asking if "undercover" and "change" are synonymous. No, they aren't.

Thanks Lisa that's good enough for me :)
The definition of battle is: "A sustained fight between large, organized armed forces."So unless the mission involves a group of people fighting, I wouldn't think it's a battle (but let's say what Caro B has to say!)
There are lot of references to war and battle in the song (referring to fighting love but still there's a lot of mention of weaponry). Now my question is...does it have to be a fight with conventional weapons or can magic be the weapon? The song mentions Cupid, arrows, stones and shields besides tanks, rifles and drones so I think unconventional weapons could count.
Snipets from the song:
Arrow holes, they never close from Cupid on a shooting spree
On the front line with a poem
Trying to write yourself a rifle
Maybe sharpen up a stone
To fight the tanks and drones of you being alone
Shields, body armors and vests don't properly work
Does this book plot match a battle
?And i'll just read the book if there's a battle i'll add the points , if not it's ok
That's my thought too, Ab2y. I know my book matches year and cover...I just need to find out if there's a battle too! ;)
No, a mission is not a battle, especially not an undercover one, because the aim of the mission would be to complete without conflict.
D.G. ~Shameless Hussy~ wrote: "Now my question is...does it have to be a fight with conventional weapons or can magic be the weapon?"cInteresting, D.G. I was wondering things along the same line. Especially, with regards to knife.
Actually, he's talking about love being the weapon of choice. LOL!
I'm going to defer to you on this one, CaroB! I've watched enough war movies to last a lifetime (comes from having an older brother who ruled the T.V. ...can't say "remote" b/c it was before then!)... so, you would think I would know. Must be the Sleep Deprivation doing me in. LOL!
Would an actual mention of battle scars in the book count for Plot? Or a gunfight/ambush specifically referred to as a battle?
Thanks, CaroB! That's what I thought but just wanted to be sure. From the 200+ pages I've read, the book is placed mostly on the war camp with battle scenes starting. Will it qualify?
@ Vi, yes, it would qualify.@ Alley, is it a random reference within the story, or is it a significant plot point?
@ D.G. - I'm going to say a physical battle of any kind can be used as a plot link, no matter what weapons are used, magic included. But it wouldn't work specifically for a covert link if you were wanting to link someone using magic on the cover. Does that help?
CaroB wrote: "@ Alley, is it a random reference within the story, or is it a significant plot point?"The gunfight/battle is significant. The mention of scars could be considered random.
Good stuff Alley, you only bedded one of this to count for the plot points, so the battle covers it :-) Well done on finishing your reading so quickly, look forward to seeing the review. Has anyone seen Mr Elf around this morning?
CaroB wrote: "@ D.G. - I'm going to say a physical battle of any kind can be used as a plot link, no matter what weapons are used, magic included. There has been mention of "the final battle" and one side has automatic weapons to give them an edge so if it happens in the book I'll be all set. :)
Shosho, I was thinking that the helicopter may have been able to be classified as a drone - which is referenced in the lyrics, but I've been assured by my husband and Google that when it comes to aircraft, the term drone only refers to an unmanned aircraft, which the Chinook helicopter that is silhouetted there cannot be.Sorry :-( There's nothing else there that would apply for cover.
Could you please tell me if I am correct here ,
I will be reading The Secret of the Nagas by amish tripathi ,
It had battles so I will get points for location there and the hero is scarred , so I will get plot points for that , and arrows and shields will be used in the book so will I get points for that?

Sorry , scarred hero on the cover so 2 points for that?

Karen, Yep, battle ground for setting and scarred hero on cover would give you 8 points. the use of arrows and shields in the book isn't really a major plot point, is it?
There were lots of fights , gun using and battles in this book even the word battle and battlefield was mentioned a few hundreds times , is that counts as plot point ?
CaroB - Can I confirm a link to the cover?
The video has a young woman with curly reddish hair like in the cover. Is that a good link?
The 'final battle' hasn't started in the book yet but our main characters have been fighting Dark Elves, Vampires and Olympians so I think the plot link will hold. He was even set on fire like in the song!
Cause you've set me on fire
I've never felt so alive, yeah
I would say no to the red headed woman on the cover, but yes to the smoke in the background of the cover, as that link to the video and the lyrics. Hope that helps!
Ok quick question for the bouncers,In my book both H/H had difficult childhoods. The heroine spent it in the foster system and has abandonment issues. The hero was abused by his father so he has abger management issues to deal with and is seeing a therapist on his superiors orders. He keeps pushing her away afraid that because of his issues he'll hurt her. Eventually he decides that he'd rather do "his best and crash and burn spectacularly than live with regrets maybes and what-ifs" Does this count for the plot points?
Lyrics:Never let a wound ruin me
But I feel like ruin's wooing me
Arrow holes, they never close from Cupid on a shooting spree
Feeling stupid cause I know it ain't no you and me
But when you're trying to beat the odds up
Been trying to keep your nods up
And you know that you should know
And let her go
But the fear of the unknown
Holding another lover strong
Sends you back into the zone
With no Tom Hanks to bring you home
A lover not a fighter
On the front line with a poem
Trying to write yourself a rifle
Maybe sharpen up a stone
To fight the tanks and drones of you being alone
